To upload your Mass effect
1 save game files, use the game luancher before heading into the game,
There is a configure option button, Click this. (For steam users right
click mass effect in the game panel, and click Mass effect luancher)
After you have the configure panel open, on the left options buttons go to "save games" button.
Press copy Mass effect 1 Save games.

This works for steam and retail copies
My Documents ---> Bioware ---> Mass effect ----> Save.
click save folder and your done

Extended guide if your still lost.

You are given a Browser folder, from here navigate to
My documents expand this folder, Find bioware expand again and just double click on the save folder.
There is no indication that anything has happened but save the settings as you exit.
Start up the game and your imports are there.

Start the game. Click on Configure. Then on the left click on Save Games then on Copy Mass Effect 1 Save Games and select the folder they are stored in.

Oh, you don't get any kind of indication on that screen that the games copied over but they do.

I don't have steam so I don't know which folder your ME1 saves are in.

Just in general, with so much time and emphasis put into continuing characters from ME1, I was really surprised by the whole process needed to import. Of course console versions it's easy, but it seems like for PC it was sort of a programmer-solution and no design time was put into making it a bit easier and straightforward to accomplish.

At first glance there is no import function. It's buried in menus and launchers and then importing is a series of guesses and reliance on people to understand where save games are stored.

alternatively, your stuff is saved in your Documents\\Bioware folder.

Copy your ME1 save files into the ME2 directory. In the ME2 save directory, there's a folder labelled ME1. Just put your saves in there. Problem solved.

Ok following what everyone says about the config tool, i opened steam, clicked the play button then select open me 2 launcher. clicked on the config button in the launcher. went to the save games option. selected documents/bioware/mass effect/save. i went to the dropdown menu and pressed save. i used the drop down menu to exit. i used the launcher to open me2. i selected load and my char still wasnt there.

then i manually went to the mass effect save folder and copied the character save file, when i went paste it in documents/bioware/masseffect2/save there was no ME1 folder there so i created one and put the save file in there. Again when i launched me2 the character wasnt there when i went to load.

This is really annoying! Please help:

running Windows Vista, fully patched retail vers of me1, fully patched steam vers of me2

Make the pain go away!

This thread is a year old. PC technical issues need to go here http://social.biowar...egory/106/index

edit: perhaps a silly comment, but you need to actually start a new game of ME2 to continue your characters, you don't use the load menu until you have ME2 saves to load
