I too felt that Bioware was being a little too politically correct by having so many women in power. I definitely would say the game was about 70/30 or 65/35 in favor of female characters. The argument that in real life, women in the middle ages didn't tend to have positions of power is a valid one, because men are generally bigger and physically stronger and thus it is understandable why more men were in positions of power. That fact has not changed in the DA universe. A few strong females in the DA universe wouldn't bother me, but when it's made to seem like the DA universe is female dominated, you can't stop but ask what Bioware was trying to accomplish. Give women the impression of being empowered? Be politically correct or "progressive" or whatever?

It's not about political correctness, it's about the game revolving around Chantry.  Pandering to agenda would mean making all females likeable and bullet-proof. There are several females characters that do horrible things in game and you can put a guy on a throne.  There are several things in game that cling to traditional male/female roles too so this whole thing is far from being some matriarchal paradise.

OP post if not trolling is terribly ignorant and therefore difficult to be taken seriously. Mages, deamons and dragons are ok and believable, but it's the women in power that break the illusion? Especially in a setting that revolves around a woman in power?  (Andraste and her church) And that is the only point that spoils the game? really?

Because it just doesn't make sense to see women in decision making positions in older times, because mostly women weren't even considered capable of making decisions in older times, hell bible don't even allow women to teach in schools because of their lesser intelligence (specially to male children). Men have always been considered true power and it just felt completely out of place to see a woman calling the shots.

And a thin templar woman like Cassandra carrying a heavy shield, honestly a woman of her physicality is not given for this kind of labour. Blocking a strong bash on her shield would result her arm to dislocated from her shoulder socket.

If Cassandra was a priest or a mage then it would have made sense, but her physique is not the physique of a shield maiden and besides it appears to be highly unlikely that old religeous school will put a woman in charge of a fighting squad.

These were my first impressions of the game.

But I love Bioware, I loved Baldur's Gate and some of their other productions, thats why i will still play this game. I am sure this game has much to offer in the way of game play. I am pretty sure game play would be awesome.

I REALLY hope the 'lesser intelligence' thing was you reflecting on the attitude of those good ol' 'olden times' and not just your opinion.

Seriously, have you actually played any of the Dragon Age series? Or read any fantasy novel or played ANY role playing game, ever? If 'olden times' is all your imagination can stretch to, and you were more offended by a few bewbs than by a huge guy with HORNS or the fact that there is a hole in the sky, then I pray for the fate of humanity.

I'm willing to bet this one did not play as Femshep ;)

It's not real fuckers. Why stick to the boring parts of history when you don't have to?

Though I admit I'd have liked Cass to be a little more buff...

And as for women in power, the player character is always the most powerful person in the game and you can be a man if you like.

What's the big deal yo?

Fantasy is not 'olden times' though is it?  It's not a medieval simulator.  I wish people would just get over this, it's ridiculous.

Wow I've never seen someone complain about too many females or vice versa. I thought bioware was always pretty neutral when it came to gender roles. It's not unheard of to have powerful women in DA there are just as many powerful men. Hell if they kept gender roles accurate there wouldn't be female warriors at all. Or women in power period. I'm sick of games where its all men characters so thank you bioware for making powerful influential women in DA and ME. #girlpower :P

You totally fed the troll.

I did it too.

I'm truly sorry

In other news, thank you to everyone in this thread. It's brightened up my dreary Tuesday in the office. Especially you OP - you big hunk of partially illiterate man-troll

OP has a point if not deliberately trolling. Thedas for the most part is a matriarchal society. Count how many positions of power reserved only for women and you know he's right. It's not about 'too many females'. It's about 'more than enough females rule the continent so I'm going to play a dude to stick it to the setting'.

Now if op is a troll and this was an attempt to rile up the feminists, then shame on you bro.

But then why is that not OK? It's a fantasy world and yes it's subversive but has the right to be told and that situation explored. Plus it makes a nice change, no?

It's weird how they never demand that BioWare simulate dysentery or terrible dentistry or accurate Medieval healing. (Highlights include: bleeding, purging, anaesthetic-free amputation.) They only care about women having too much power.

"Femalefest" sounds awkward, though.

Can we find a "sausagefest" equivalent? Melonfest, perhaps?

(Please note, humorous post intended. I actually have melons myself, so... self-deprecating humor, deploy!)

I've heard "oysterfest" being used as an equivalent, but I suppose "melonfest" works just as well.  :P

DAI is rather balanced feast though with it's sausages and melons so overall gaming world stays very meaty. Maybe somekind of melonfest would be needed from time to time, too much meat is not healthy.

And i'll add something: more women is always better. Bring more of them.

I saw 'clamfest' used at some point :/ I think I prefer 'melonfest' though, I'm not a big fan of seafood.
