Uh-huh and half of the posts there are people asking wth is wrong with her and how they want to kick her out of the party.

Sera is a really bad example. Too close to a least favourite character in DAI.

so number count in threads is nothing to go by, glad we straightened that out

Is a shame that it can be difficult to meet fellow female gamers when so many hide their sex to avoid getting shamed, harassed or abused by certain people who seemingly won't tolerate them playing openly

It saddens me that this is what my niece told me she did on the official Skyrim forums cause "guys get so nasty if you're a girl!"

While I ultimately agree with your point, this is not they way to argue it

Even in fantasy world's most aspects of it are the same as the real world.  Gravity is still applicable, laws of motion, etc... (unless magic is acting upon the object)

Just because there are dragons in the skies, doesn't mean all things grounded in the real world are suddenly up for grabs.

You're acting like it's not still skewed towards males, which it still is.

And besides, I thought we all agreed that the way women used to be treated, is just flat out wrong. Why would you want to perpetuate the past just so you can be historically accurate in a fantasty game (with Dragons, and Magic and giants, oxmen and Elfs)

You didn't just compare the laws of physics to a social structure crafted by our medieval societies, did you?

The status of anyone in human society is never grounded. We follow patterns, but those patterns can and are deviated from.

One thing societal perceptions and gravity have in common however, is both are relative.

well, the impression I got from Bioware games is that most leaders are female and their minions and soldiers are male. That's why I would say, It's skewed towards females.

What? Haters? Where.

My flamethrower is ready.

There are no haters in the Thread at this point.

These are not the arguments you're looking for.

Well, many men think with their ballsack. It's kinda sad.

Also, many men are sexist.

Give the numbers, I refuse to believe this is so

Advisors: 2F, 1M.
Companions: 3F, 6M
Political Leaders: too lazy to count, but way more men than female. (the females I could only think of Celene, Briala, the Divine, Fiona and Calpernia. For the males it's basically everybody else. From Fairbanks, to all the generals in all armies you see in the game, to the Mayor of Crestwood, to Corpyhpeus)

Oh and, one of those female leaders actually works a man (Calpernia --> Corypheus)

are you really going to compare the mayor of a Ferelden backwater to the Empress of Orlais? Because then we are never going to get anywhere.

of the actually noteworthy political figures

The head of the Wardens in the South, the ruler of Orlais, the Divine and both of her hands, Calpernia, Fiona, Andraste, Anora, every Chantry mother, such as Giselle, and Briala

compared to Corypheus, Alistair, Gaspard, and Samson

This is really interesting. I've been very active in the Skyrim screenshot community and it's a pretty even split of men and women to my knowledge, and I'm yet to see a single gendered insult. But then, we have come together over a common love of screenarchery, so perhaps it is different elsewhere.

Certainly, I don't disagree that practically every other community I've been in has been as toxic as hell.

I'm not arguing that we recreate medieval Europe in Thedas, because it isn't Medieval Europe.  That doesn't mean we can ignore all things in the real world

Of course it's skewed toward females. Because it's meant to show a possible reality, where females are in key positions of power and influence.

Nope they do, just not for Sera.

I don't really remember Morrigan being that many people's favourite, as some here claim and expect her to be. Most of the people like "yeah, interesting, she'll be in DAI cool what's the story with the kid" and that pretty much all about her, end of story. I also remember many saying that if it wasn't for Leliana, they had no romance options in DAO at all because Morrigan they found to be everything that a woman shouldn't be.

Is a sh*tty situation when you have to pretend to be a guy just to avoid a torrent of sexist or sexual abuse directed at you, is the reason my main PSN account has a gender neutral iD, i got tired of either getting kicked from online lobbies or getting msg's asking to see me naked or worse :?

And by showing that, it's making a statement. That the whole notion of "men occupying these positions is the natural social order" is false.

Power is not better in the hands of one determined gender. It's your COMPETENCE, a result of both adequate preparation -intellectual and ethical- and experience with leadership that define whether you have enough merit to both deserve and handle it.

All these realism arguments, hilaaaaaaarious. When was the last time you saw a dragon, a mage, an oxman, an elf and a dwarf fight it out?Screw the last time... when was the first time? Was there a first time?LOLOLOL.gif

You know, that first paragraph there sounds like it should be a joke of some kind with an epic punchline. "A dwarf, a dragon, a mage and a qunari get into a barfight"
I'll let someone wittier finish.

In other news, Bioware care about representation for their female demographic, and they write a variety of female characters- just like they do for the males. in the wider scheme of things Bioware probably account for a large proportion of the total positive female representation in games. i for one think BW do a fantastic job.

Yeah I think the latter was what happened. When she posted there as female she got some strange pm's and got freaked out and so created a new account. She may have overreacted but why am I not surprised that this occurred? It's unfortunate. It really should not be that way anywhere.

Political leader = political leader, whether it's some backwater or not.

But really, what's your point here. Which 'real life things' were you talking about earlier?

You want things to reflect to bad situation of real life more?

They only count if the polls are also says the same.

But the pools says us funny things, such as that the males characters are people's favourites. Such an odd thing, BW was trying so hard to make so many unnecessary female characters and to make them importnat. Poor BW.

Actually post count in threads doesn't matter much. It's just people (mostly the same posters) being very chatty, nothing to do how popular/unpopular a character is.
