Political leader = political leader, whether it's some backwater or not.

You want things to reflect to bad situation of real life more?

If you think that the mayor of Crestwood, is the same as being the Empress of all Orlais, then you really need to re-examine this.

No, but I do want people to realize that bioWare is portraying a society that is more matriarchal than patriarchal, no matter how many mayors are men, teh most powerful person in Thedas is the Divine, who is always female, the leadership of the Chantry all female, the ruler of the most powerful nation in Thedas, female, the leader of the Mages, and the Wardens in the South, female

It is not in any way skewed Male

You know, I live in a place where for a long, long time the majority of the political powers are all male.  Well, a specific kind of male too, but male.  The big leader in power has never been a female too by the way.

I live in a specific area where a few years back, we elected a female governor for the first time in history.

Now, this fact is extremely depressing for myself.  So, I kinda don't mind that there are amazing, awesome women in power in Thedas.

Agreed on this point. Look at Anora vs Alistair for instance. One's a lovable idiot, the other a very competent and stern woman like her father. Capable ruler, while her husband is more of a "face". And this is fine.

Honestly, I never even paid much attention to which gender had what until I looked at the forums.

Is a sh*tty situation when you have to pretend to be a guy just to avoid a torrent of sexist or sexual abuse directed at you, is the reason my main PSN account has a gender neutral iD, i got tired of either getting kicked from online lobbies or getting msg's asking to see me naked or worse :?

One of many reasons I don't play online. Had some nasty experiences in my early teens. Nowadays the worst I tend to get is the general "oh that's so cute, your partner's going to love you" from the people in the store.

No darling, the games are mine. Thank you oh so much for your assumption that because I'm small and female that I couldn't possibly be in this shop of my own volition for my own entertainment.

Even if this is the case, one matriarchical fictional society (Nevarra, Tevinter etc are still led by men but thats besides my point) compared to the entirety of male-dominated gaming, and a real-life patriarchical system that is slowly becoming more equal should not be a situation worthy of male panic.

I've asked you a few times now.

Which 'real life things' are Bioware ignoring?

And that.

Wait, I just realized! When you and I were talking about you saying darling, and I said the only time I could imagine it outside of playing dolls in our time was if you were British? I was right! :P

Okay, I'm not saying I'm agree to whether the DA series are "skewed toward male" or "skewed toward female", the thing is, even if BW made the DA to be "skewed toward female" in term of power & political dominance, is this bad? Or does the world just end for all non-female population & this must be corrected at once?

We are trying to get a representation of a world that does not exist in reality (yet), where women can achieve things without hindrances because they are capable. Sadly this is not (yet) the reality.

This whole boring not boring argument is really subjective and the whole concept of a specific masculinity that seems to be embraced as a sign of strength is ridiculous. Men have every right to have weaknesses and show them, it does not make them weak.

Alistair being shown as a man who never really experienced real world, is not inherently bad thing and it doesn't make him weak or whiny.

And let's take a look at  DAI do you really consider men like Varrick, Cullen, Iron Bull, Dorian (and even Blackwall) to be weak and dependent?

Once again I applaud to ThreeF's post.

And I still think that BW did massively great portrayal of both strong, independent, capable men & women in the whole DA series. A leader is still a leader no matter how many people are under your command.

Yeah it took me a while to "come out" to my SWTOR friends.

(Then I discover most of them were female. LOL)

This entire thread feels like men getting back at women for taking their fair share.

"oh look at us taking the backside oh myyyy goooood"

While they have had for centuries and we have told them to shut up about it for just as long.

There's been a few times when my partner and I have gone in together and despite me being the one buying and paying for my selections the men behind the till have directed all their questions, conversation and even the price at my partner whilst I stand there incredulously feeling like an invisible lemon.

Try sounding like you have half a brain about cars at the autoshop...or when you're driving a modded out car and you can actually talk about those mods and what they do/why YOU (as a female) chose them...

The sweeping generalizations at my gender's expense for a small vocal minority makes me a sad panda.

What I really suspect is that this generalization is due to several outspoken people who have outspoken opinion on not wanting male to not be the dominating part in every single game/fantasy media representation. Or whatever it is.

<snip>

I have seen the picture used before comparing different social systems in the countries. First picture was USA and the problem was that the goverment doesn't support enough those who aren't well-off ^^;

That's OK sweetie, we'll forgive you

In all honesty this thread should really be a non-issue and it's really bringing out the sweeping generalisations on both sides. The BSN is generally, and thankfully full of intelligent and thoughtful people of all genders.

Indeed, though I prefer physical copies and I order them from a site. But when i go to a store that also has pc games, sometimes i buy from there as well.

Bless the mentality of most ppl not giving a f00k about your gender here.

See whenever I go to the game store by myself I always get the "OMG your man is one lucky guy" comments, like I'm every "nerd's" wet dream...  :?

BTW, I use the term "nerd" in an endearing way, as I am in fact a nerd...

I wonder if it's regional, I haven't had any problems with gameshops etc. Harasshment in online games is different issue though, you get that always if the fellow players know that you are female ^^
