I actually remember a similar study where they had to shoot black people with guns and whites as cutouts. Both black and white people were more likely to shoot black people. Whether you want to blame societal stereotypes or what, you can't point to men or whites, or white men and say they do this or that more, as it's inaccurate.

You'd be wrong. My family does this with black people all the time. We laugh often because stuff they accuse white people of doing, they do too. Some things are just human nature.

But its still a result of being on one end of that heirarchy. If there were no differences in the representation of whites and blacks (and in the number of them in society) it wouldn't happen. The reason we do it is because of a conflict in our schemas; a contridiction in our subconcious expectations.

Ah. Now with this comment, I think you've completly misunderstood what I meant, or at the very least my motives. I know the study you are speaking of- and yes, it is to do a lot with schemas; our pre concieved notion of what should be or is. Because of a highly racist media culture, our braisn are saturated with suggestions about groups- we are socialized to subconciously expect certain thing of certain people. Its not a coincidence at all that most people chose the black man.

This just simply isn't true, and is an assumption. Like people pointing to australia and saying if we got rid of all guns for citizens legally, there'd be less gun crime. Which is proven false statistically.

Racism is something well engrained into American society. It would take quite a while to reverse such perceptions even with equal representation. And even then, it might just be that it's human nature to think differently of people who look a certain way. My cousin is dark as all hell, and scares the **** out of me at night, because I simply can't see his ass, lol.

If we were out in the wild, that'd be a serious advantage. I hate to bring it to such a crude example because it makes us seem like animals. But then again, humans are animals, and some things just can't be deprogrammed with societal changes.

So things like perceiving a certain group as this or that, or seeing more of the people who aren't like you, that won't necessarily change with SJW reforming. It makes sense that women notice more men somewhere, or men notice more women somewhere. You throw me into a crowd, I can likely tell you very quickly how many women are there. I'm a guy. Kind of my thing. Women like sex just as much as we do, so I bet many could do the same in opposite. I barely notice men in a crowd as far as them being in my immediate sense of attention.

Your points are good, but I don't think you are necessarily proving the other guy wrong. "that won't necessarily change with SJW reforming" - true. But it won't necessarily not NOT change things also. At this point we are making assumptions about human nature, and humanity is so far removed from any situation where pure, raw human nature is the day to day norm, that it is nigh impossible to determine what behaviors are the product of social conditioning and what is simply raw human nature.

People are bloodthirsty and violent, right? That's a part of human nature
As depraved as humanity is, brutal violence is not a day-to-day reality for most people in Western society. Social conditioning. A long way from the Dark Ages, when that aspect of human nature was the norm. Blame the SJWs who thought we need laws curtailing that aspect of human nature. Now look at ISIS. Social conditioning or lack of social conditioning? Either way, you get the point.

Representations in popular culture can do much to manipulate and shape the general attitudes within society, over time. That's neither a good nor bad thing.

You're right of course, but my main point is basically that this isn't just some thing men do because from one perspective we're on top. Even if I didn't prove him wrong, I gave enough reasonable doubt to show people really need to stop saying "It's FACT that men do..."

Especially if the reasoning's based on who you think is more privileged. Women have many many societal privileges that men don't enjoy. First one at the top of my head is in America at least, they control sex a lot more than we do. Sure, there's more men in certain job positions, but first, that's mainly because women don't typically grow up wanting to be CEOs and soldiers, and even though yes, it's because they're not told that this is even an option for them, not many choose that path even when readily available for them. Besides that, these positions, office jobs especially, are very taxing on your health, and women actually have higher life expectancies than we do because statistically speaking, more stay at home or work less physically and mentally taxing jobs than men do. Which to me honestly sounds awesome, lol. I'd rock that stay at home dad life if I actually could.

It's all about perspective.

Dear OP, in case you haven't noticed Thedas is not Earth, culturally males and females are considered equal. While spiritually the Primary Deities, and Prophet of Thedas were female. Basically this causes a very different dynamic socially and geopolitically. If you want to play a male character go ahead, but don't let sexism be the rational for what gender your character is.

Speaking of recipes, anyone know a good marinade for chicken? I need ideas.

Italian salad dressing is a surprisingly good marinade!

Also, balsamic vinegar and honey and sage. So nom! (1/4 c. honey, 1 tablespoon vinegar, 1 teaspoon ground sage).

For red meat, the best marinade I've found is soy sauce, garlic powder and onion powder. I usually prefer to use fresh ingredients, but in this case, the powders really do work the best.

Olive oil + minced garlic + cumin + cayenne + salt. Stick that in a plastic bag with your skinless chicken pieces, then when you want chicken sear it in a pan, add a little water & cover till done.

om nom nom.

Good idea, I usually substitute the vinegar with lemon juice. Or white wine vinegar (Chardonnay for example) is not bad for a change.

Josie was talking about butter & sugar in-game, so I just whip a batch of this...

Spoiler

Cooking & baking are great things to relieve stress. Especially when there are lots of threads like this one.

I always thought Josie was referring to shortbread? They are essentially just butter and sugar. I wonder if she is talking about Cullen, cause if she is it makes we wonder if it was a little shout out to the Cullenites as shortbread and Cullen has been a thing long before the games release.

Another favourite recipe of mine:

sear chicken thighs on pan with some olive oil until the skin turn golden. Then put it in oven for 30 minutes.

In the mean time, cut an orange into 8 parts (if organic, you can technically eat the skin).

Put some balsamic vinegar on the lefotever oil, a teaspoon of sugar, on high heat. One minute of two.

Once the chicken is ready, glaze in the balsamic sauce. Then put the orange.

Yea I know, shortbread or butter cookies. I got one messenger banter in Cullen's office, asking the messenger to tell Josie that he likes it, "it was good" or things like that. So I assume that it's about cookies... or he'll get some serious problem...

EDIT: what's about Cullenite & Shortbread? R2s told me about cakes & cupcakes but not shortbread

Tell me tell me tell me

Pleeeease? :)

All this talk of cooking its making me very hungry now. Lots of good cooking ideas in here though makes me miss my stove. I'd whip up some potato cakes now if I still had a working one.

Oh, Eric isn't on much these days but he used to do up greeting pictures for people that were new to the thread. Pictures of Cullen and there would always be a plate of shortbread in it so it just became a thing, Cullen and shortbread went together like peas and carrots. It started well over a year ago so that is why I was thinking it could have been a thing for the Cullenites.

If you have a good potato cakes recipe I'm interested

An old Irish lady once used to make me some. I really miss the taste...

Tssssssk... Ferelden & their love of Shortbread. Alistair love cheese though. Always find lots of cheese in Ferelden but never in Orlais. I always thought that  cheese is more Orlesian than Ferelden. Except if it was non-stinky ones...

(That is to say, this topic is still on makes me wonder. I bet in 5 recipes it'll...)

All this talk of shortbread reminds me of this cake my dad used to make. I'm not sure what the exact name is in English but it literally translates to "butter cake," and it's butter, sugar and flour in equal measures iirc, it's more cakey than shortbread and it's so good... It's also pretty sticky so you have to have a special cake pan or you'll never get it out of there in one piece. XD
