You just know if Cass and Leliana where male the op would have made a thread complaining that it's a sausage fest.

Most games, movies, books.. almost everything are. It's quite easy to spot, just look at Avengers movie with it's 1 female main character who is token sexy female character that's needed and then 5 dudes here (counted Hawkeye but if you don't want to count him you can count Loki or Fury).

I think OP is feeling like females suddenly are everywhere (though pretty sure this is troll when taking look at other posts from OP in this thread), but I wouldn't be suprised if some feel odd because in DAI suddenly there is more females than just token sexy woman. It's still something new, something weird, to have so many females in major roles in the game. Of cource DAI still has more male companions, I don't think BW would have guts to go majority female way ^^;

I guess if majority would be female characters even I would be confused with the game, sausage fest is so taken over all the media that it's weird to have lot of female characters. I would like to see it though.

There was just so much dedication put into that sweat thread. I think he deserved a Pulitzer or something.

Why does the game have so many females, specially at the beginning. I created a female character and then just right after the opening cinematic I had to deal with two other women (Cassandra and Liliana) and no male character at all. There were also mentions of Justinia (deceased leader of Chantry) and she was also female.

It felt like a complete female-fest or something.

So I deleted my female character and created a male character.

Just thought I should share this fact , as it did bother me a lot to see females in the decision making position and no males at all. Not sure what was bioware's fascination with putting females in every place of power, at the beginning of the game. I haven't the played the game past the opening mission, so I don't know what awaits me next.

But from what I have seen so far, seriously discouraged me from playing a female character, as I want my game worlds to be balanced among genders.

LOLOLOL! Now you know how women feel when they get to positions of power in RL. Seriously, this is exceedingly funny.

Most of you, people, are laughing out of loud because the opinion stated in the opening post. Even if it was troll, according to the previous topic of this kind, it's not the behavior of adults. You ridicule all the statements, but in fact I have not seen any post with meritoric answer to him. As I believe that everybody has law to state his opinion, I believe that for the Maker's breath, another topic shouldn't be closed simply because there are opinions of some peopole about female in leadership roles overshadows male's. Why it seems to me, that if there was topic about females oppressed in Thedas it would be rated as a valuable thesis to discuss?

In my opinion, a seed of truth lies everywhere.

I was writing about this already in the previous topic of this kind, but I would like to state this once again. It's fact that in general female characters in Dragon Age series are presented positivly, even if they're in the end adversaries (Meredith), they are written more wisely and have more motivations for their acts. Males on the other hand, are simply the one who needs to be killed in most cases. Those, who are psychopaths (Uldred, Quentin, Erimond, Otto Alrik) and we can punish them, are males. Why can't we do that to Clarel? She had understand her fault? It doesn't matter, her body should rot in the darkest cave of Skyhold. What's more, even dog was more masculine that most of the "male" companions in Origins. In most examples, they are pathetic, whinny and soft kids unable to overcome the difficulties on their own way (Maker, bless teyrn Loghain...). There are more females in Dragon Age series that deserve titles etc., but since Loghain there was no male character who would equal to them at the level of writing.

As for the Inquisition, there's lack of answer to the Chantry clerics abouth the Divine selection like: "f... off, I don't care about yours Chantry. I belong to the Imperial one". Seriously, why should every Inquisitor care about who becames the Divine of female Chantry? It's structure and activists are in my opinion so pathetic that solving their problems was a waste of time, just as the Game at Orlesian court.

For everyone reading this post - I am not a mysoginist, this kind of thinking and repeating everywhere is pathetic. Get adult and think about it, let's discuss on arguments and not be lead by the dark side of force. I truly believe that there should be more male characters equaling to the many of female characters in power. It's not about the position of woman, but uneven level of character writing and Bioware ideas for who should be antagonist etc.

OP has a point if not deliberately trolling. Thedas for the most part is a matriarchal society. Count how many positions of power reserved only for women and you know he's right. It's not about 'too many females'. It's about 'more than enough females rule the continent so I'm going to play a dude to stick it to the setting'.

Now if op is a troll and this was an attempt to rile up the feminists, then shame on you bro.

If you have Netflix, I really recommend Alton Brown's cupcake episode of Good Eats. In true Alton Brown fashion, he gives a great mini history lesson about how the cupcake came to be developed, as English settlers to the Americas could not rely on having access to the same sort of equipment or ingredients that they had in England. So they improvised, and came up with small cakes they could bake on the hearth in cups.

He then goes into detail about the advent of the chiffon cake - a light, airy cake which is perfect for cupcakes. For a long time, no one knew how to replicate this wondrous cake, until Betty Crocker revealed the secret - just swap the butter for olive oil (or some other vegetable oil)!

Here's one of my favorite recipes of his, for a chocolate chiffon cupcake.

4 ounces cake flour
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon kosher salt
1/4 cup hot water
1 1/4 -ounce cocoa powder
5 large egg yolks
6 ounces sugar, divided
1/4 cup vegetable oil
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
4 large egg whites
1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar

Preheat oven to 325 degrees F.

Place paper liners into 2 (12-cup) muffin tins and set aside. If you prefer, set 12 ovenproof coffee mugs on a half sheet pan and set aside.

In a medium mixing bowl whisk together the flour, baking powder and salt. Set aside.

Place the hot water and the cocoa powder into a small bowl and whisk to thoroughly combine. Set aside. Place the egg yolks and 5 ounces of the sugar into the bowl of a stand mixer and whisk on high for 2 minutes or until the mixture becomes pale yellow and 'ribbons' when lifted. Add the cocoa mixture, vegetable oil and vanilla and whisk to combine. Add the dry ingredients and whisk just to combine. Transfer the mixture to a mixing bowl while you whisk the egg whites.

Place the egg whites and cream of tartar into a clean bowl and whisk on high using the whisk attachment, until it becomes foamy. Decrease the speed to low and gradually add the remaining ounce of sugar. Once the sugar has all been added, increase the speed back to high and continue to beat until stiff peaks form, approximately 2 minutes.

Transfer 1/3 of the egg whites to the batter and whisk until well combined. Add the remaining egg whites and fold in gently. Transfer batter into prepared muffin tins or coffee mugs, evenly dividing the batter between the cups. Place both muffin tins on the middle rack of the oven or, if using mugs, place all of them on a half sheet pan and set on the bottom rack of the oven. Bake for 30 minutes, until a toothpick comes out clean or the cupcakes reach an internal temperature of 205 to 210 degrees F. Remove from the oven to a cooling rack and allow to cool completely before frosting.

It only seems like there are disproportionately more females because you're used to seeing disproportionately more males with maybe a token female character as the mom, daughter, or love interest of the male hero. Try actually counting the characters and you'll see it's remarkably even.

Oh, and I don't recommend using corn oil if you use this recipe. Tastes too much like cornbread if you do, and chocolate and corn just don't go together. Olive oil tends to work quite well, and though I haven't used it, I'm sure coconut oil would be fantastic for a recipe like this!

There's really not anything meaningful to discuss. The OP's contention is that women shouldn't be in leadership positions or fighting because they didn't do those things on Earth in the Middle Ages. (Which isn't entirely true to begin with, but never mind that.) It's like complaining that the dragons and darkspawn don't fit in with the historical setting.

What's more, even dog was more masculine that most of the "male" companions in Origins. In most examples, they are pathetic, whinny and soft kids unable to overcome the difficulties on their own way

... you think that STEN was pathetic, whiny and soft? And I'd only apply one of those adjectives to Oghren. I don't the description fits Alistair and Zevran, either, but I guess mileage may vary there.

As for Thedas being dominated by female leaders, I think the Dragon Age writers are just trying to balance things out over all. The women in charge may be a little more prominent in Inquisition than the men, but given how rarely that happens in CRPGs, I don't see it as a bad thing. Given that the number of female companions is actually disappointingly low, I don't think we're in matriarchal paradise yet.

Nah, it doesn't annoy me.  I was there for the night of the Fishquisition and for the Loghain DILF thread.  I welcome more Alton Brown recipes and I think Good Eats is a great show.   I've been lurking mainly over the last couple of weeks, so I had to ask.

OP's opinion would have generated a discussion except that he has not finished the game. He stated he started the game and was upset to be confronted by two important female NPCs and thereby, because there was no important male NPCs in immediate sight, he ditched his female PC and made a male just to even up the male to female ratio. It's hard to take his opinion seriously.
