I've heard that the DPS lies a lot with one handed weapons. Like the swords swing much slower, so they have a higher damage then the other weapons but a lower dps. Do maces have the least damage, but the most dps as well?

Like, is this true?

Maces- highest dps lowest damage value

Axes- middle ground

Swords- lowest dps highest damage value.

Also, is their anything advantageous about one animation over the other?

From what I understand abilities go off the damage number, and dps is only relevant to auto-attacks. So if you do a lot of auto-attacks then dps matters, otherwise just worry about straight damage.

If I misunderstood what you were asking feel free to ignore me.

DPS= damage x speed. But all your abilities work of damage, thats why DPS is misleading.

You should aprobsbly also consider armour (if the target's armour blocks 25 damage, 2x 50 damage hits do net 50 damage whilst 1x 90 damage hit does 65)

The difference in attack speed isn't that much, no way near 2:1 closer in the end to 5:4. At equal tier swords, maces and axes do the same damage.
Swords have a lower dps because the time between their 2nd and 3rd swing is nearly a second while maces and axes it is about half a second. Which if you use the search ping trick can eliminate the difference entirely.

So their is on damage difference? Maces are just better then everything else because they do the same damage and swing faster at the same tier? Is their any advantage in the sword or axe animations like a knockdown on final hit in the sequence or a longer reach?

Axe and mace share the same animation as near as I can tell so should be same damage and dps. Swords might have a little longer reach and I noticed rather than a lunging swing when moving forward they thrust. But as I said, if you search ping between swings you can actually increase your dps anyway. For a 2h ping after the first swing for 1h ping after the second. It resets the attack animation and the first swings happen quicker than the swings after.

Swinging faster is bad if you do most of your damage from abilities.  High weapon damage value is best for that.

Faster attacks + highest DPS could be good if you do most of your damage from autoattacks and want to maximize on-hit bonuses like guard or healing, I suppose.

How is swinging faster bad?
from what people are saying they all have the same damage values and the only diff is swing speed.

I think he meant if judge them purely from a dps perspective, as that takes the auto attack speed into account.
Safest bet is to look at damage rather than dps and judge a weapon by that.
