Because everyone loves romance threads and there aren't enough of them!

 

Seriously, though, I'm more than a little curious about whether or not there are patterns that emerge across the games. Do Alistair romancers always choose Cullen? Are Cassandra fans more likely to be drawn to Isabela or Merril? And so on.

 

(Since most people here tend to play repeatedly, I mean The One for you in each game or at least the romance you enjoyed the most if you don't ever do self-insert characters.)

 

Anyway, for me it's Morrigan, Anders, and Dorian.

 

Edit: All three of my canon protagonists are human male rogues since a lot of people are giving that information as context to their choices.

Morrigan for a Human Male Mage Warden.

 

Isabela for a Male Mage Hawke.

 

Solas for a Female Mage Lavellan.

 

I think it's the interesting dynamics of the relationship that make me prefer them, as well as that those are the relationships where you get the sense of how much the protagonist has come to mean to the other, from their initial introductions to each other.

 

Morrigan and Solas' turmoil is that they are both hiding things and their true purposes from the Warden and Lavellan, while Isabela's turmoil is how much she finds herself falling in love with Hawke, which is difficult for her given how much she's been hurt by others in the past.

Eh, so far Iron Bull? Dorian is a super close second though, but Iron Bull has more content which I like.

 

These are the romances I've enjoyed the most, however in my canon DAO playthrough I romanced Alistair, and I think my canon DAI romance will be Cullen since I like the idea of my canon female human mage romancing him (but I haven't romanced him yet- made the mistake of romancing Blackwall with my canon mage instead. Will eventually replay her).

DA2 is sort of a wild card as none of the romances really hit me. Anders makes good narrative sense and completes the 'why do I keep dating mages' trinity. But I also liked parts of Sebastian's romance. Maybe I'll romance Merrill or Fenris next time I play through. 

 

Morrigan and Solas though, can't get enough of.

Alistair, Sebastian and Blackwall. They're not my favourites, necessarily - I love Fenris the most of the DA2 set, and I haven't played enough of DAI to have a firm opinion - but they are the ones I played first.

 

As for a pattern ... knights in sort-of shining armor? Hot British accents? Yeah, it's probably that last one.

Well for DA:O it would be Alistair and Morrigan for me.

DA2- eh don't really have a favourite, none left a lasting mark but I dunno Izzy I suppose.

It's strange, I really don't have a canon romance from the Dragon Age games. I do for Mass Effect (Kaidan with mShep - all 3 games, Shep stays single in 1 and 2). 

 

I haven't finished my first run of DAI yet to say whether I'll feel the same about this. I'm romancing Sera, and while I love her romance I shan't be considering it canon. I don't know anything about the end of the game, but I hear there's something dramatic about Solas, so perhaps that might give me reason to have my first canon DA romance. Time will tell.
