Origins: King Alistair, with human mage mistress/chancellor. They keep each other grounded, both love very intensely. I imagine them to both be somewhat jaded, and my Amell can publicly be the jerkface Alistair can't be. Both have given up their freedoms to serve Ferelden ; this is the only selfishness they've chosen- each other.


II: Mage Hawke and rivalmanced Sebastian. Although they're mostly polar opposites- a sarcastic apostate who loves luxury, fripperies, and shocking people and a genuinely reformed, pious brother of the Chantry, both are dreamers and idealists willing to lay down their lives for the world. Hawke still wants in his pants, of course, but she's enough of a romantic to give up sex for the man she loves.


Inquisition: Lavellan and Cullen. She's bit of a ditz; he sees it just as being a dreamer. Both are people who have seen terrible things and have come out the other side stronger. She loves him enough to shed her Dalish past, knowing that loving a shem will put her in her clan's black books forever, and she makes him realise how good a mage can be.

Don't think I have a canon romance, but rather some preferences: Morrigan, Leliana and I guess Cassandra.
the straight female romance options hasn't really bit into me quite yet.

Dragon Age Origins: I'm partial to a male human mage warden romancing Morrigan, doing the Dark Ritual and following her through the Eluvian.

 

Dragon Age 2: I prefer a female mage Hawke romancing Anders and putting him out of his misery.

 

Dragon Age Inquisition: I'm not sure yet. I think my favorite romance is Cassandra and then breaking up with her when she becomes Divine. I prefer Leliana and Vivienne as my Divines tho. Solas romance is really good too, and I think that romance will carry the most weight forward, but I just do not like playing elves. I haven't decided my romance for this game yet. I still can't figure out who my canon Inquisitor will be lol.

I discarded the notion of having a canon playthrough since I have found that I enjoy more than one path.

 

Still, if I had to pick a "default" that I find most "canonically logical", I'd go with:

In terms of "Official Story", I would have to say Morrigan, Isabella, and Solas are the "Canon" choices.

 

In terms of my own story that I use: Morrigan, Merrill, and Sera.

I feel like Cass is a combo-breaker on the pattern of preferring the "softer" female option.  Josephine is just that boring, though.

Hmm... I seem to have a penchant for choosing the guys with the most plot relevance, which is cool. Though the best my girls got was a bittersweet end... not so cool. I do like to pair mages with non-mages though.

I am replaying the whole series so my canon characters might change, but the romances won't. I did like Zev, and Cullen was great, but I prefer the above - both as characters and for story reasons.

I think it can be headcanon'd so Lavellan doesn't have to give up her clan to be with him. In war table missions, Cullen's troops save Clan Lavellan many times over if you do it right.

 

Besides, Clan Lavellan seems to be a pretty open-minded clan of elves, as far as Dalish clans go. Compared to the lack of pro-elf content in the game that's something. They risk their lives to protect the City Elves in Wycome, so I don't think they'll mind one of their own falling in love with a human, especially now that she's the leader of an organization and can't stay with them her whole life anyway. So there's no possibility of an inmarriage within the clan.

 

But if you want to play as an outsider Lavellan that's a legit choice too. There are a lot of possible ways a romance can be bittersweet in this game, some canon, some part of headcanon.
