DAO: Usually  Alister for my canon story (Kaetlissa: female human noble rouge). Version two (Goketsu: male warrior noble) would be Morrigan.

DA 2: Kattie (rouge) would be Merril. Seems to not really factor in other than that one side quest in the Hinderlands where I meet Merrialla or whatever her name is as opposed to Merril.

DAI: For the Vollsan's  it would be Sera (Amolla: female human Sw/Sh warrior) and Cassandra (Draven: male human 2H warrior).

Male Cousland w/Morrigan and Female Cousland with Alistair are tied for my personal canon romances in Dragon Age: Origins.

Edit: All three of my canon protagonists are human male rogues since a lot of people are giving that information as context to their choices.

I don't really like how the romances from Origins and DA2 are portrayed in later games, so for those, I've stuck to ones that don't end well, as part of the natural story flow:

-Canon Warden: Romanced Alistair, then spared Loghain

-Canon Hawke: Romanced Anders, then executed him

 

My canon Quizzie and his/her romance will probably depend somewhat on what happens with it in DA4...my "candidates" for a canon playthrough include Josie, Sera, or Solas.

With Morrigan's romance I had been keen for any repercussions resulting from the Dark Ritual but there appears to be no setback - unless you count Solas possibly getting his hands on the Archdemon Urthemiel's soul. Kieran's a good kid, and will no doubt become an Arcane Warrior just like his father.

 

At first I was a Merrill fan but then I switched camps because Isabella is a more enlivened character due to outside source material and I quite liked her appearance in Inquisition. That and the idea of terrorizing the seas with her seemed like something my Hawke could aspire to. This all stemmed from making a new Hawke that kills Anders, because the blond ****** was a complete no-show in Inquisition and Sebastien Vale just launches an all-out war with Kirkwall if you let him live. 

 

As for Cassandra, I simply prefer her romance over the Disney princess romance of Josephine.

In the first time i did not like Fenris, nor his apperance, and nor his dramatic expressions. I found him tiresome. My absolute favorite was Anders. I had always choose Aveline as warrior. Later i tried Fenris, and I loved him. Why? For example: although he hates Anders, he refuses to betray him. (Anders would gave him to Danarius without remorse... i tried...No, I finally did not pass him Danarius...)

 

"Sebastian: It's our duty to tell the templars. Fenris: Then why haven't you done it? Sebastian: I guess I was hoping they'd come to it on their own. Fenris: And then you wouldn't have to betray Hawke's friends, right? Sebastian: That's not reason enough to allow a maleficar to walk free. (If Anders is in the party)

Anders: You think the templars don't know I'm here? They just haven't caught me yet. Sebastian: Which of us should do it? Shall we draw lots? Fenris: Uh-uh. You want to turn them in, you work it out with Hawke."

 

I like him for his loyality, and yes, his humour.

 

Friendship romance with Fenris is more imaginable, but i tryed rivalmance without hurting him (based exlusively on Hawke's mage-fury), and I found this to be acceptable and beliveable.

 

Anders preserved friend. This Fenris must be accepted. (Later maybe Anders will be executed... or not... and Sebastian can go to the abyss with his army...) I still like Anders. (I like his story, character, and understand his anger (I have inner-"Justice" too – just not as aggressive).

- canon Warden was a male dwarf and romanced Morrigan (90% of my non-canon Wardens are female and romanced Alistair though, he's my favorite Bioware LI ever)
- no one caught my canon female Hawke's interest and she stayed single through the game, but this is probably going to change once I get around to downloading Sebastian's DLC, he seems like my kind of guy
- canon Inquisitor is a human lady and romanced Blackwall

... I guess I like humans? I never really noticed the pattern until now

This question is too vague because of the sheer number of possibilities involved.

My canon is that Mahariel romanced Morrigan, Aggressive Mage Female Hawke romanced Fenris and Mage Female Trevelyan romanced Sera.

I am male and heterosexual so when I play as male I go for the girls and when I play as female that depends on the circumstances.

Originally my diplomatic blood mage fem Hawke romanced Merril but since I made Carver a Grey Warden, who have low fertility, and DAI showed Hawke to be utterly against blood magic I switched to agressive spirit healer fem Hawke who romanced Fenris and whom will keep the bloodline alive.

That said, my female Trevelyan originally was romancing Cullen and while the whole templar x mage romance sounded cool at first I realized my Inquisitor was winning Cullen too easily and lost interest.

The reason I picked Sera over Cullen for my mage was the same one why I picked Fenris over Merril, the conflict made the romance more interesting and real instead of fairytalish.

Another thing which helped me decide was that, unlike Hawke, Trevelyan wasn't one of the last members of her dying bloodline so she could marry another for love and adopt a child without depriving the world of powerful descendants.

In general I don't like romances where one part feels submissive to the other which is probably why, in hindsight, I picked easy to set off Morrigan over agree with everything good Leliana.

1. Morrigan. My male Cousland Rogue fathers the Old God baby, rules with Anora, and then disappears with Morrigan at the end. Couldn't resist all that.

2. Merrill. She needs me.

3. Cassandra. I wanted to romance her since I first saw the beginning scene of DA2. Had to wait a while.
