I guess he/she made Alistair "hardened" and then tried to keep Loghain alive?

 

I had the same, but I was planning it anyway - sacrifice romance, make Alistair marry Anora, keep Loghain alive and make him redeem himself (a little) by letting him kill the Archdemon. All for Ferelden, my female mage was very dutiful GW (as she was "good" member of Circle)

 

E: And a knife in a belly for Morrigan, so no ritual.

 

My canons are - Alistair, I guess (I'm male, huh, but it's really fun romance). In DA2 - definetely Isabela (both sexes), my lovely pirate captain

 

I don't have any canon in DA:I yet, so far I only tried Josephine. Does anyone recommend trying Cassandra?

I can't get enough of Cassandra's romance. I first romanced her two playthroughs ago and then played a playthrough where i romanced Sera. I liked Cassandra so much that i had to play one more playthrough just so she could be my last.

No. I meant which origin of a Warden did they play. My Amell was lawful, but meh, selfish, I suppose. She wanted Alistair alive (but as a Warden, no king title) so there's that...

I've actually discussed this with some close friends of mine over the years.  It's been interesting at times to see the direction of people's thoughts as their stories progressed, at least.  For me, I've tried and played through several times in each of the games through various romance options.  But my canon romances are pretty firmly set; to the point I don't really change my world state in the Keep even.  Ever. 

 

In Origins, my Warden was a Cousland rogue who romanced and married Alistair; she's my most diplomatic character.  I did enjoy the Zevran romance with my Surana mage playthrough.  But my Dalish elf sacrificed herself, unromanced and still in mourning for Tamlen.

Here was my canon ending scene, though:

 

Dragon Age 2 was a pure adventure for me.  I initially planned on romancing Anders, who I enjoyed getting to know in Awakenings.  But there was a video release introducing this elf dude that I came across sometime before the game's release.  I decided to romance him instead.  Once I played through with a romanced Fenris, it was all said and done.  I've never managed to successfully romance anyone else in DA2.

 

Sorry to all of you who adore ANYONE other than Fenris.  That's just me.

 

Here's my canon Hawke with his favorite guys.  I swear, he'd burn down the entire world to keep these three guys in one piece:

 

(My Garrett did NOT turn out anywhere close to how I originally planned the character, mind you -- an aggressive personality Mage who sides with the Templars.  He is fascinating.)

 

And then comes Inquisition. 

 

I had this intricate plan for my Inquisitor.  It definitely involved an elven character; because I figured the elves needed their own hero in the wake of the events I considered reading "Masked Empire".  But that's about the only thing that my canon Inquistor really ended up being like I originally planned.  Everything else went out the window.

 

Mind you, I've completed playthroughs with successful romances involving: Cullen, Solas, Cassandra, and Iron Bull.  And they're all excellently done.  I can easily jump between playthroughs on various characters without being too bothered, even.  But while I imagined that my canon would be a Cullen-romanced elf-female archer, that isn't where I ended up.

 

My canon Inquisitor is a mage who romanced Dorian.  I keep imagining how Fenris will respond to meeting Dorian at some point in the distant future.  It should be a fascinating bit of back and forth VIOLENCE anyway.  But at least my Quizzy didn't leave Hawke in the Fade, so it should be toooo bad, hehe.

My canon playthroughs change based on what I am currently playing. Call me corny, but I like matching my couples. All my Elves are super Elfy and want to preserve the race so they'd never end up with humans. My humans on the other hand don't fancy Elves because they think they're too slight and prefer something more robust. Aside from the one-off DAII playthroughs where I wanted to give Fenris a shot.

DA:O: Alistair for humans and Zevran for Elves.
DAII: Anders
DA:I: Solas for Elves and Cullen for humans.

Note: Would pair up IB with my Qunari's but I actually haven't been able to get far with one. Their heads are just too small...

DA2: Male Blood Mage = Tallis - would have been Isabella if she wasn't a ****** and Merril is waaaaaaaaay to innocent and naive, its like romancing

                                        a 10 year old.

 

DAI: Male Elven Reaver / Human Knight Enchanter  = None - both Cass and Jospehine were awful imo, romancing them felt like a chore, they

Morrigan for me because that dark sexy possibly evil witch thing is too decadent for me to resist XD she's delicious. Worth the heartbreak. (I don't go through the eluvian with her).

 

Merril because of similar reasons, though replace witch with bloodmage, and she's definitely not evil, but she meddles in dark things. And yet she's adorably sweet. Normally, I couldn't stand girly characters like her, but something caught me. I guess I like outcasts, felt bad for her at first too, can't help but lift her spirits. Happy Merril makes me melt, what can I say.

 

Cassandra, I could go on and on but basically she's badass, very cute, and I love discovering things about her that no one else would expect. Her character has an awesome dynamic with my own, enough that she was the reason I started writing stuff for Dragon Age.

I think I get what you mean, it does feel more like Isabella chooses Hawke instead of it just being the MC that does the choosing.

Don't have a canon one really as it depends on the playthrough I have going at that time however I do have my faves and they are: 

 

DAO human male mage with Leliana.

 

DA2 male with Isabella.

 

DAI female Lavellan mage with Cullen. For me I' d say it's the sweetest and nicest romance in the series so far

Yes!  The book is so static and his hand just... doesn't move at all.  It's so odd.
