Well, as most of you know, I love numbers and data.  So I spent a few minutes tallying up the responses to see what we've got.

 

From this data set, it looks like the most popular canon LI's for each game so far are:

 

DA: O - Alistair

DA 2 - Isabela

DA: I - Cassandra

 

Most people are choosing canon states where the romances are the same gender (i.e. all female LI's versus one female and two males).

 

The most popular canon states are:

 

1st - Alistair, Fenris, Cullen (9 votes)

2nd - the "golden trio" of Alistair, Anders, and Cullen (7 votes)

3rd - Morrigan, Isabela, and Cassandra. (6 votes)

 

The most popular s/s world states are:  Leliana, Isabela, Sera (5 votes) and Zevran, Anders, Dorian (5 votes)

 

The most popular 'canon' LI of all three games is Alistair with 44 out of ~120 mentioning him.

 

The least popular 'canon' LI of all three games is Iron Bull with only 3 people (out of 120) mentioning him.  Poor Bull.  Guess he's "fling material", but not "settle down material".

Who do you think will be the most popular DA:I LI? I'm ready to bet it's between Cass, Solas, Dorian, or Cullen.

 

I'm quite surprised to see IB quite low on your counting, I expected more people would be delighted to Ride the Bull.

 

My gut is that it's going to be Cassandra, Cullen, and Solas about evenly across.

 

Based on this (very limited) data, it seems like Alistair and Morrigan are pretty close in DA: O and Isabela and Anders are pretty close in DA: I.  These are the four LI's with the closest connection to the plot in both cases; one male and one female for each game.  So, using that pattern, I'd say that it's Cass and Solas for plot purposes with the distinction that Cullen has a strong fan base that puts him up there as well. 

 

I'm not surprised about Bull just because it's asking for 'canon' world-state and most people were using plot justifications.  In fact, there were several people who offered two sets:  one for plot purposes and another for 'favorite romances'.  Bull's fun (although, apparently controversial as a LI), but I can see people who want a male "canon" LI for this game going for Solas or Cullen (for the reasons above) or Dorian (for m/m). 

 

If someone made a poll asking people to pick (all that apply) romances that they will do in DA: I, he'd probably be higher.  Most polls ask people to pick their favorite or their 'canon', so popular second choices get underrepresented.  I did a poll last month asking people to pick any race/gender/class combination that they intended to play and dwarves came in at 13% (with over 1300 responses from six different boards), which is much higher than the 5% when people ask them to pick their "canon" race.

Yeah, that came from DA: O telemetric data from several years ago.  Not sure if it's still the case or not.  If it still holds up, then that would shoot my 'plot purposes' theory out of the water.  I think that it was actually from achievement unlock data (as in her achievement was unlocked the most).  Not sure if that plays a role, but it might.  And this question is 'canon'.  So if a person unlocked both Leliana and Morrigan's achievements, but picked Morrigan for 'canon' world-state, it wouldn't show up here for Leliana.

 

And, of course, don't forget that it's only about 120 fans from BSN in the data set, so it's not really representational of anything.

Well said. I totally forget about the samples number that might not be huge enough to well represent the population. Plus, people in BSN is only a fraction of DA:I player.

 

Does BSN's population data represent the general population data?

 

The thing is that, when in DA:O they have achievement tracking (4 romances, 4 achievements), now in DA:I they have only one romance achievement.

Mine should be Zevran, Anders and Iron Bull (I play as a male character in my canon playthroughs)

 

But in Origins I started off romancing Morrigan then left her for Zevran but at the end of the game I had the baby with Morrigan and somehow I was able to walk through the Eluvian with her, starting the romance back up again. So for the Dragon Age Keep I put in Morrigan as the romance instead of Zevran, although I didn't actually fully complete her romance like I did with Zevran.
