Is it worth doing the Solas romance?

I admit, I'm curious. I wanted to romance Dorian to see what that was like... plus, none of the characters I make ever get along with him (even if they have different personalities). I can't even get my approval up enough to do his personal quest, so I guess it'd be like a challenge. Anything I say, he disapproves

But I have issues deviating from Sera. I romanced Cass and as soon as I tapped that I went back and made a female because it just didn't feel right. It's quite sad, really.

I've heard about that tattoo removal thing. Is it true Solas says it represents slavery, or some sh*t?

In that situation I'd be like, screw you this is part of my culture.

Did you mean it was a hard decision to you to remove/not to remove the markings, or just the whole situation? If the latter, I agree. It was one of those moments when the possible reactions didn't contain those I would possibly choose. It's weird how disturbing it is to not be able to express our feelings properly, even it's only a videogame.

I meant the decision itself, since I'm a die-hard Dalish fan.  The vallaslin (Dalish tattoos) is one of the defining characteristics of the Dalish, since they're the only ones who wear them.  It's a rite of passage in a way for the Dalish, which makes it a very important thing for them.  Being a die-hard Dalish fan, when I got that scene, I had no idea what to do.  For some reason, I felt like Solas wasn't exactly telling the truth or, at least, not the entirety of it.  Not sure if that was because I liked the Dalish so much or because of something else, though.

In the end, I went with keeping the vallaslin because, no matter what the original meaning behind it was, the Dalish have given it a new meaning, and that's what matters.  Plus, from my Inquisitor's perspective, her vallaslin was a part of her and removing it would mean that she was losing a part of herself, along with a connection with her clan.  On the upside, Solas doesn't treat it as an ultimatum, so he's perfectly fine with Lavellan choosing to keep her vallaslin.

Also, I like the vallaslin.   ^_^

Honestly, as I've said, Solas' romance is best experienced in your first playthrough.  imo, it is still worth it since it fits so well with the plot.

As for what he says about the meaning behind the vallaslin, well, he basically says that it does represent the Creators, but it was mostly worn by slaves, and the designs were determined by which Creator the noble they served worshiped.

Honestly, though, I don't think that what he considers slavery is the same as the slavery we think of (Tevinter-style slavery).  Especially considering how the Sentinels (who obviously didn't serve anyone other than Mythal) wore vallaslin themselves.  But this is a discussion for somewhere else.

As for Dorian, I have to actually try to get disapproval with him, otherwise he'll be my best buddy.  Same goes with pretty much everyone except Vivienne and Sera, but only late-game for Sera.  But then, I'm very pro-mage and I always end up getting a ton of Friendship with Fenris in DA2, so maybe that's a moot point.

Moral of this: Topless women are more appropriate for children than men's asses.  Wonder why Fox is keeping quite.

You know, I think it could be debated that topless women ARE more appropriate than men's asses.

And this, my friends, is how you take joke too seriously.   :P

But seriously, it was just a joke.  I was making fun of the very obvious double standard on YT.

Think about it like this: Gay men are more controversial than lesbian women simply because human society is very, very male-centric.  Because of this, 2 women being together is more acceptable due to the fact that it is more appealing to men.  On the flip side, if human society was female-centric, 2 men being together would be more acceptable due to it being more appealing to women.

tbh, I did sort of feel like my joke was a double-edged sword when I posted it, but the point is that the whole double standard when it comes to nudity is pretty ridiculous.

Well the Solas romance may be depressive for some, still I feel it totally worth it, especially because we can be almost sure he will be back, so nothing's really lost yet. But I wouldn't advise to replay the game only for that, because it's quite short. For me, he's the one whom I cannot deviate from. It's not sad, no, I don't think that. Sometimes we just get attached to someone. There's always a thing called youtube, however stupid it is *looks at OP* to take a look on another options :P

Lol I'm in the exact opposite situation with Dorian. As Gamer also reported, Viv and Sera are pretty much the only characters constantly disapproving of my actions. You should continue to try to gain enough approval points for Dorian's quest. I only managed to do it on the second playthrough, and it's not much, but helping that silly boy feels good.

And that's what I like about Solas. It's not a catastrophe if you don't agree with him on every damn thing under the sun (although somehow I miraculously do :D

I see now, that's really a hard choice with that mindset. Like the situation isn't hard enough in itself...Fortunately I had no such complication. I'm through with being too fond of any culture, nationality, or anything which can be called part of someone's "roots", real-world or fictional.
There was a vallaslin I liked though. It was one of June's, if I recall correctly. But it had to go anyway   I felt much more "myself" after it.

And this, my friends, is how you take joke too seriously.   :P

We really need a "sarcasm" emoticon.
