Why not if I might ask? And yes youre right that it isn't anyones place to tell someone else who they can and cannot be with. But as Gamer072196 wrote many people out there uses god as an excuse to hate and/or beat down on homosexuals for just living their lives.

And right there is what upsets me the most. And the one of the many reasons why our laws are changing.  To use religion like that is completely unacceptable.

I don't see why people make a big deal out of other people joking about religion, especially when religion isn't used in a good way as much anymore, where feeding & caring about the poor is ignored or seen as some kinda communist conspiracy but expressing hatred against LGBT people is seen as perfectly ok & saying its wrong is "discrimination against religious people & taking away their religious rights". Is stupid that asking somebody not to hate & discriminate against gays & hearing the common response of "your being discriminating against me by not allowing me to humiliate & throw those queers out of my store/restaurant/hotel, how dare you" trying to turn it around so that your the villain for daring to ask them to treat a gay person as a human being :?

Most of it come down to ignorance and immaturity, im not proud of this but when i was younger i used to be close minded about homosexuality, i didnt understand gay people nor did i care to it was easier to find them weird, granted i never made them feel worst about themselves still to dislike someone who hasnt done anything to you just because they are different .. it wasnt right, the turning point for me was when a friend of mine turned out to be gay , he was one of my best friends and i wasnt about to just ditch him because he happened to not share my preferences , i had to reevaluate some stuff and to this day he is still one of if not the best friend i have.

I know this isnt really reassuring but growing up i dont remember homosexuals being able to openly be who they are anywhere , be it the internet or real life , so i would say that while things still look bad , you guys have come a long way and it can only go uphill from here on out, keep your heads up.

You're contradicting yourself. If if wasn't your place to tell people what to do with their lives, you wouldn't be insulting them with your opinion like you just did.

I think they're saying that while they still follow their beliefs, they don't believe that they are one to say what people can and can't do with their lives.

They weren't insulting anyone by stating their opinion.

What I can't understand is what it is that people think is so damn offensive if they no longer have the "god" excuse.

So you would just look the other way and let it happen right?

Wait, do you mean their original post on the last page?  It wasn't really insulting, just realistic.  Maybe they could've worded it differently, but they did have a point in that not everyone will be accepting of it.  All we can hope for is that most people will be tolerant of it.

At least this isn't an elf thread.  If it was, the ADB and the Clique would be all over it.

Alright I though you where refering to you not agreeing or accepting homosexuals you mentioned earlier I'm sorry for assuming the worst.

Consider two different species of statements:

1.  "I would rather be dead than gay" and/or "I would rather be dead than go to church" or general "Religious people/LGBT people are *insert preferred pejorative here*

2.  "I think homosexuality is wrong because *reasons*" and/or "I think religion is problematic because *reasons*"

For me at least, the 1st species are infinitely more insulting and intolerant.  The second just says you disagree and you have reasons why you disagree.  The 1st says that the people you disagree with are disgusting and to be avoided; the magnitude of their error is such that they should be avoided rather like a mangy dog or a cockroach.  Even it's it's *true* that you feel that way, it's still intolerant and rude to say it.

I don't mind people having their own opinions, is just when they use hatred or fear mongering to try & rile people up against a minority or deny basic rights then run & hide behind their "religious rights" when confronted about it that i really dislike

I think I, like most others, can openly accept that some people will admit to not accepting homosexuality (I won't say disagreeing, because that makes it out to be a debate and it isn't, some people are gay. The end.) but what I really wish they would do is, before expending their energy on holding an opinion against the different natures of people, is to sit down and have a really good think about WHY they can't accept it. I mean really, really think on the reasons, what they believe it will effect in their daily lives and on the world in general. And if they can truly come up with a better argument that "it's wrong", "It's against my religion" or "I think it's gross" well then, while I'll still disagree with their opinion, I may be less inclined to want to punch them in the face. Which is always something.

Wanting to punch them in the face is understandable.  It's the actual verbal or physical punching them in the face that becomes a problem.  This is equally true with them too of course.

Well if it that was obvious, no problems in this arena would ever arise.  Clearly it's not.  Or at least, it's hard to keep in sight.  Usually because somebody points out how true this is *except* in their own case for *some reason* which usually boils down to "how angry/insulted/threatened I feel."

In my experience it's 99% of humanity, including myself.  It's not just on Youtube.  This is why the whole discussion of "ridiculing religion" entered into this thread in the first place because it's *not* just a handful of stupid people on Youtube  who lash out in fear/anger/offense/whatever.  Otherwise, this whole thread wouldn't even exist.

"Some stupid people on Youtube did something I don't like" immediately morphs into a response of "Youtube is stupid - the people on it, the company that runs it, the people who made the policy that allowed it to happen, etc. etc., all of it-stupid"  How is that not a generalizing response coming from emotion?

To be clear this thread and it's content doesn't actually bother me, but it does suggest that a lot more than stupids on Youtube have this response. We all have it, and we have to constantly check it.  If my reminder of it seems officious and irrelevant, you are free to ignore it.
