As the title says, the random loot generation is getting increasingly frustrating.

I loot everything: all dead mobs, all chests, all random bags, pots, and furniture. It is EXTREMELY frustrating to rarely find anything for my own class. I can't even find class and/or spec appropriate schematics to craft things. The worst part about it is that it's a total crapshoot from play to play. In my first play as a warrior I did decently, but in this current one I'm hardly finding anything usable.

I've seen a bit about "chest farming," but I'm not really sure how to do it. Even so, that shouldn't be necessary. I did the entire Therinfal Redoubt mission and there wasn't a single sword drop. In a place full of templars. That is absurd.

Four Amulets of Power.... for Varric whom I'm not even using because I'm playing the rogue. I've had ONE.

I've given up finding anything of value. I check the chests for loot and take everything that's blue and purple and sell it. The only thing that's of any value are the schematics. The merchant in the Hissing Wastes has the best schematics. Save your coin and buy them.

Almost all of the treasure is crap. The armor and weapon drops are pathetic. If I had to survive with those I'd never make it through the game. The best armor I've had drop is 195 and I'm level 21. Try taking on a dragon with that on any level higher than casual unless you want to micro manage the party with the tactics view which is not my idea of fun. So I play on casual so I can have fun.

Amulets of power are never random drops.

The problem is that they combine random loot with chests that don't respawn. Those two things simply don't go together, but BioWare insist on putting dynamic loot in static repositories.

in sp you can create, or rather modify the things you find to the specs you want
I thought it was too complicated so I never tried it, there should be a thread in cheatengine forum

Am guessing that this is problematic in the higher levels; lower lvls has enough static loot, and anything else can be sold for funds to be used as desired.

But in most games with random, loot, Murphy does tend to rule; get stuff for Mages in first session while playing a Rogue, then play a mage, and get stuff for Warriors. Perhaps we should have Legacy Inquisitors that can share loot within the same family like in SWTOR?

This is what's driving me crazy right now...I played a mage, got a ton of rogue gear, now as a rogue, I get no rogue gear, only mage and warrior stuff. B)

I'm on my third playthrough now, and when I find a treasure chest or other lootable item (in a zone I know I can return to any time) I never empty it.

If there's only one item in the chest, I leave it alone - unless it's a Masterwork Schematic I know I won't see again in years.

If there's multiple items in the chest and one of them is a schematic, I take it and leave the rest alone.

If there's multiple items and gold in the chest, I take the gold and/or any blues, to either use or sell.

This way, when I'm running through the Hinterlands many levels after clearing it, I still have the satisfaction of rediscovering loot - and since treasure chests reload their contents every time you enter a map, I have plenty of opportunities to find items useful to my character.

^ Well I finally figured out how to chest farm, but the necessity of doing so is really annoying. At least I managed to get myself a decent weapon out of it.

I used the three chests after the Hinterlands dragon. I did a hard save (in case I needed to go back for whatever reason) and then looked in the chests. If there was nothing I wanted I loaded my save and looked again. Repeat process as necessary until you get something you want. When I finally did get something, I looted that item only, did a quicksave (to keep my new item), loaded that quicksave, and the chests were all refeshed again. Repeat for more items. Sadly I had to lose one chest because a badly needed weapon upgrade was a single item in the chest, but it was worth it.

Shame we can't do this with dragon corpses...

yup... this mmo style looting detracts from the experience for quite a few reasons

Those chests are good. Other places with good loot are the Still Ruins dungeon in the Western Approach (but you can't take the Tempest staff if you want to return there, I think) Coracavus dungeon in the Western Approach, Valeska's Watch in Emprise du Lion, and Sulevin's Cradle (a standalone dungeon accessed by looting a letter from a corpse close to Valeska's Watch)

Well, is it just me or have you all noticed that every single item you get from the war table that is not an amulet is obsolete.  For example let start with the very first mission where you get the fereldan captain longsword.  You would think hey a Tyrn just gave this to me I bet its pretty good.  Nope its not just another item to sell.  I have noticed that every single item that I have gotten from a mission on the war table basically is just something to sell never worth equipping .. just saying I haven't experienced that  "OMG THAT IS A F**** NICE ITEM I BETTER EQUIP THAT NOW MOMENT" even the Tyrda bright axe item after 20+ hours of waiting :P you get it and its like okay another item for 16 gold.  Maybe if there was a "random" element there I don't know.. small percent that it could be a great item for example not way OP just something to last awhile.  Also, would be nice if the maps would scale to the characters level so every map would be a tough fight.  So if you put off Crestwood for awhile then come back its not a cake walk.  Futhermore, if looted items would appear on the mini-map as a different color than sign posts/ladders would be less of a hassle.

Absurd and MMO mechanic-like, just as the respawns  <_<  Dragon Age should not be like this (in my humble opinion).

access the locked door in crestwood after you destroy the fade rift, only take the amulet of power, fast travel to anywhere else, I go to val royeaux. Rinse and repeat.

As far as the random loot goes, it is aggravating. I have spent an obscene amount of time farming the area cradle of sulevin, (this is the most effective loot run in my opinion, 19 or so chests, 2 spiders that have a remote possible chance of dropping giant spider glands, and two corpses.) there is equipment I'm looking for my Mage, seer staff schematic, superior battlemage armor, and masterwork qunari staff blade, I never found them with my Mage, but I sure as he'll did with my rogue with no effort whatsoever.

With regards to the war table missions, after selecting a mission(s), go to your clock and move up the time by a day. Then they are immediately completed.

This is not true.

I've gotten a random amulet of power as a drop from those bandits for Solas. I was boggled myself.

They might be very rare drops but they do drop in the world.

Oh, it doesn't work on dragons? :(

What about Fade Rifts? I know you can defeat demons, leave without closing a Rift and it will respawn, but if you leave the loot on the ground will it stay there?

The problem for me is that very little of the loot is ever going to be of my level.   In my current playthrough, I am just about 70% done with the Emerald Graves area at level 20.    I still have Emprise and Hissing Wastes to do ...  hence I am always 5+ levels higher than the area I am in.

If they were going to take out level scaling, they needed to do a much better way of spacing out the areas.

Schematic rng is a total crapshoot. if you were to self impose a no cheese/chest respawning/no buying scheamtics >t1 run then you are at the mercy of the game to drop you a t2/t3 weapon schematic post skyhold. It really should have been the case you get a guaranteed t2 weapon class for one of your active party members by the time you reach level 10 and then again at level 12.

Luckily the game does give you t2 schematics in val royauex if your luck has really been that bad.

As for rng loot, some rares are incredibly good and possibly overpowered for the level you can find it. Past level 16 it will be harder to find gear as most enemies dont level too far past 16. Even on NM, rng fodder loot is more than good enough for you to clear the game.

I don't mind this so much. I typically complete that game at level 24, so I know I'm going to be outleveling entire maps and tiers of gear. I just want to ensure that I actually have some gear progression and am not running around with a level 1 sword when I'm 11.

See, I can see this being okay for an MP thing.  Causes people to go back, experience content more, rather than just becoming overpowered in one stop, moving on and never looking back.  But during single player, where you move at your own bloody pace, what's the harm in getting more guaranteed drops showing up and more luck with schematics rather than just sheer dumb luck or having to shell out a lot of coin.

I less troubled by random than the crap nature of everything. It isn't that the RNG Gods hate you but that is staggeringly little usable loot lying about and compared to crafting there is a pitiful amount.

IF this was by design and not every companion should have super weapons and armor then that is fine. I'd actually rather like a world where I am not trying to figure out how to allocate the 28 magic rings in my inventory. That isn't the case here as I think the shirt comings of loot were a design because crafting was supposed to pick up the slack. It was like they were worried people would complain there was no reason to craft because of the great loot.

I wouldn't be bothered as much if schematics weren't also part of the randomly generated loot. It's entirely possible to have terrible luck and get very few schematics for your current class. Add to this the possibility of getting very few actual loot drops for your current class and there is an extreme dearth of loot.

Again, people should NOT be forced to do chest farming just to get decent gear. Not over powered gear, but simply decent.

I killed a level 20 dragon last night (Storm Coast), and got a level 11 item of heavy armor. Seriously? What level 11 tank would survive a level 20 dragon?

Especially annoying in early game, cause generally if I manage to find something that's actually better than what I already have and for my class then there's a -ing level restriction on it instead. Yeah thanks, never mind that by the time I've advanced two levels to be allowed to use it I can probably make something twice as good anyway so might as well sell it right away. Thanks I guess? Next time just give me the money instead.
