Apart from the Warden/Warden-Commander, Hawke (Champion of Kirkwall), and the Inquisitor (the protagonists), which character(s) from the whole series was (were) your favorite? 

 

To get the ball rolling, my favorite character was Anders! Not afraid to admit I developed a small bro crush on him. Particularly Anders in DA2 (didn't care for him as much in Awakening). In his own way, he kind of reminds me of myself (I feel like I'd be sort of like that if I was a mage, minus letting a spirit inhabit my body). He's such a romantic and while I may not agree with blowing up the Chantry, he fights for what he believes in which I can respect!

I still have a huge crush on Fenris I also love Shale, Alistair, Iron Bull and Blackwall(at leat until youknowwhat). Dorian, Morrigan, Sten and Varric also grew on me.

Sera and Iron Bull have some incredible discussions when you have them both in your party.

I am definitely a dog person, and I totally plan on naming the next dog I get Barkspawn, so Dog is definitely one of my favorite characters. 

 

But favoritest evar? Duncan. Hands down. I could explain, in detail, why I love him so much - but I fear I would devolve into much fangirl squee'ing. Just in the brief time you have with him, he just shows so much compassion and badassery. I may or may not have romanced Blackwall my first playthrough just because he looked like he could have been Duncan's long-lost brother. And I may or may not have made a dark-haired and bearded male Hawke in DA2 with the headcanon that Leandra got naughty with a wandering Warden once... 

 

I also really, really appreciate Loghain. During my first playthrough of Origins, I was just completely convinced that he was Arseface McVillain. But in retrospect, I really understand why he made the choices he did. And I can sort of respect them. And I love that the writers did that, and that he could be the Secret Warden. 

 

Merrill is another favorite. I know a lot of people don't like her, for various reasons. But I never saw the character that people are complaining about. I saw a grown woman, who made a clear-eyed choice for the good of her people. What other people interpret as naivete on her part I more interpret as culture shock - of course she's not going to understand how cities work, she's been living in the forest her whole life! 

 

And Varric. Ofc Varric.

Leliana. She's still probably one of my favourite characters in basically anything. Certainly BioWare.

Following her...probably Solas and Varric. There are so many I like though. Would have to throw in honorable mentions to Dorian, Sten, Alistair, Cole, Blackwall, Nathaniel...

Major: Duncan, Loghain, Flemeth, Morrigan, Alistair, Shale, Oghren, Varric, Cassandra, Solas

Minor: Arl Teagan, Sandal, Clarel

Top Three:

Cole (especially on the spirit path) -- Truly unique, incredibly insightful, and the purity of his kindness is awe-inspiring. I love how much my character can learn about people, spirits and the world by simply letting him be what he is and treasuring him for it.

Cassandra -- Deeply honorable, thoughtful and devout badass whose friendship and respect were incredibly satisfying to earn. No other characrer of mine ever had a better sister-in-arms-and-spirit than my Inquisitor has in her.

Wynne -- RIP, funny and long-suffering surrogate mom to the three wacky, troubled kids that were the Warden, Alistair and Leliana.

 

Honorable mention:

Dog -- I want a mabari from his bloodline for my Inquisitor.

Solas -- He sure can be a "smug little *******" as Iron Bull says, but when he opens his mind enough to respect people he comes to know, advocates passionately for spirits, geeks out about the Fade, and is a gentle mentor to Cole, I can't help but be fond of him.

Alistair -- For remaining such a good guy at heart despite being rejected and unwanted by everyone all his life. My Warden called him brother and tried to be the family he should have had. Then she put him on a throne he didn't want and sacrificed herself because "duty above all". Sorry, my friend.

Leliana -- I'm iffy about the extremes of her back-and-forth character development, but my Warden loved her despite knowing it could not last. There's something tragic about this character and her losses that tugs at me, even though her more ruthless self is severely unpleasant. Also, her character art and outfit are probably the best in Inquisition aside from Cassandra.

 

Favourite non-companion characters:

Ser Barris -- Showing what a templar can and should be.

Mother Giselle -- Spiritual advisor who cares for those in need.

Fergus Cousland -- The best big brother.

Gorim (the dwarven noble's second) -- Why wasn't this smart, cued-in and non-stereotypical dwarf a companion instead of the crude and annoying cardboard cutout Oghren?

Ser Otto (the blind templar helping out in the Denerim alienage) -- Service and protection to the last breath, heedless of his age and disability.

In each game there are always one or two characters that standout as The Best for me:

 

Origins:

 

1) Allister (A Bioware main male companion who isn't dull! Suck it Carth, Kaidan, Jacob and Vega!)

2) Shale (Award for most different companion)

3) Sten (An intresting, different philophy who likes and dislikes you based on standing up to him rather than agreeing)

4) Morrigan (Intresting way of speaking and voiced by Claudia Motherfucking Black)

5) Zevran (Shameless assassin *******).

 

Bonus demerit for Oghren for not doing or saying anything intresting outside of Orzamar.

 

DA2:

 

1) Varric (Fun, funny, feels like a real friend and person and has epic chest hair).

2) Merrill (Cute, good voice actor and I really like her act of her one-elf determination to save her people's history. If she ever learns what we learn in DA3 she'll probably kill herself).

3) Anders (For being the Bioware companion who most takes their future and the story into their own hands rather than being passive and for going on a character arc and journey. I think executing him is the right thing to do but it is because of the goodness of the arc that I feel that way as opposed to my usual "Save the companion no matter what")

4) Carver (The fact he is a jealpous arguing ******* causes conflict with Hawke which is way more intresting than Bethany's whining. Also doesn't force me to be a not-mage)

5) Fenris (Just makes the list. Very cool but his anti-mage psychosis is too hard to swallow at some points)

 

Demerits for Isabela (Stupidly oversexed in apperance and dialogue, comes off as very juvanile) and Bethany (God you're dull).

 

Tallis would be in my top five if she was around longer.

 

Dragon Age Inquisition:

 

1) Cole (For being very different, very intresting and backing all that up with excellent in game dialogue. Also he saved me from the Envy demon).

2) Cassandra (For being honest in her beliefs without being a fanatic and for being willing to change what no longer works. Also for beign the put upon straight man to everyone else's wise cracks and for being a warrior woman who looks the part).

3) Solas (For being really intresting and almost never a dick about Spirits or Elves. Bioware companions have a tendancy to get really butthurt if you disgree with them Fenris being the worst example).

4) Dorian (For beign a facinating insight into the Imperium, cool, sassy and daring to break with his people's more evil traditions without abandoning them).

5) Iron Bull (For being a Qun practisioner without being a liche).

 

Sera I don't like but I see what they were trying to do so I don't regard her as bad character, i just don't feel it worked.

 

Vivienne however just comes off as a ignorant, stuck up ponce with nothing to recommend her and little intresting to say. I don't even like her character design.

God, now there is a hard one.  Sooo I'm going to cheat and name a few to make it easier on myself.  

 

Zevran, Morrigan, Solas, Dorian, Alistair, Fenris and Cullen.

Honourable mention for Shale and Cole as well.

 

I suppose if you forced my hand I'd be leaning towards Zevran as my favourite as he just cracks me up, I love his snark and humour in general.  Plus he is also super sweet underneath it all if you romance him.  They're all awesome though, in their own way.
