move over its crowded XDYea, okay, do I really need to make a "competent civil leaders who fought in wars" list? Probably not. I have a feeling you would just ignore it. This logic would also exclude any and every mage who ever suffered some sort of trauma or abuse while in the tower.
I clearly see I am standing in the middle of an argument between more or less this guy and this guy.
Nope, nevermind.
I'll be standing over here to the side with the reasonable people.

Warder supports killing people simply for being out too late. How is that reasonable?

Indeed and I get the "hyperbole" treatment when I say this exact same thing.
I don't apply circumstance to thousands nor do I automatically view people as the same.
Hence no hyperbole.
If you'd stop doing those things it would stop being used.

I didn't say it was.
I'm saying that opinions on both sides of this argument at the moment are extremist and batty.

Because those people break the law.
Criminals are cancer to civil society.
Beyond that? Both sides chose it.

You mean committing genocide for "the good of nation". Oh I get it, lets just ignore all the possible diplomatic ways.
I can see the reference to Che Guevara, but perhaps people will understand my views better if they knew that I'm a lawyer and from a family who have been lawyers for eight generation but the key factor is all of them were defense attorneys and not a single person was a prosecutor. Its a family legacy really and one that I'm proud of. Defending the helpless against arseholes who use the law and security and turn it against innocents or people who don't deserve punishment on such scales.
So you can see that how opposite I would be in comparison to Warder or anyone sharing his views. Leliana like Cassandra can bring good changes to Thedas, unlike Vivienne who goes back to the old system.

I am not sure someone can say having templars police mages makes sense. The problem with mages and why they "need to be polished" is that they're both powerful (several people here called them walking weapons) and corruptible.
As for the corruptible part, bullshit, by definition every mortal is potentially selfish and power-hungry, corruptible applies to us all, mages and not.
As for the power...uhm...if you have the power to police and potentially subdue someone, you're more powerful than them. Otherwise you wouldn't be able to police them, would you now?
So we need someone to police the templars too, they meet the ''police-worthy" criteria. Then we need someone to police those policing those templars too. Then those too...and those and the next, etc.
So either we need an infinite cycle of guardians...which we can't do...or the criterion "powerful and corruptible" is to be abandoned. I choose the latter. The mages should be dealt like any other, only unlawful actions should have consequences. Not the potential.

It has never been about mages being powerful and/or corruptible. It has always been about demon possessions and the none-mages fearing magic and demons as a result.
All it take to wipe an entire village is a single mage that turn into an abomination and even with the circles having been around for more than a thousand year it still happen (see Meredith's background for a recent example, or Connor with Redcliff and that wasn't a full possession). Even Tevinter has circles and strict rules about the usage of magic because of this.

The problem with demon posession is you have a very evil and every powerful being. It is about being powerful and corruptible(= using that power in a wrong way). That's all it is about.

Bright Hand... something suitably inspiring yet ambiguous enough to adapt to a changing political world. That's clever, Cassandra! I like it! However, I just can't give up the Divine Leliana ending, personally.
