Heya all! Happy 2015. :-)
First off, I hope this is the proper forum to ask.

Been away from DA for a while, but started a new game on New Year's Day. I think perhaps I must start anew after a reinstallation... maybe?

I have the Ultimate edition (physical copy). I installed it, and patched it to 1.05.
Question is, should I have (re)applied patch 1.04 first? 1.05 did nothing but patch DLC DRM bugs as far as I know; or are the fixes in 1.04 also present in 1.05? My copy claims the game is version 1.04, but on another webpage in these forums I read that Awakening overwrites 1.04 content, which effectively makes it version 1.03 (which was horrible, as far as I can remember). If that is the case, have I patched the game from 1.03 to 1.05 and missed the bug fixes of 1.04 - or are the fixes in 1.04 included in 1.05 anyway?

Which fixpack mods - if any - should I consider? I've tried both JAFP and DARFP in the past; both had serious issues (at least back in 2013, which was last I really played DA).

Also, I've noticed that I after a while got a "corrupted" game insofar as that my defense rating showed in red as "51 (51-NaN)". I corrected this in the toolset (set the modifier from -0.9-something to 0) and it showed perfectly normal again.
Does this happen because I've cast Arcane Shield while Spell Might was active?

Or does it happen because I use Spell Might altogether? Does anyone know?

As I recall patch 1.05 will have all the fixes that's in patch 1.05. Patch 1.05 only corrects a problem (I think?) with Witch Hunt DLC not loading or installing correctly.

I think I've had the same problem with the defense rating being shown in red. It went down from 61 to 51 on Sten, I think. I checked my equipment and there was indeed a shield or an armor that gave, I think, + 5 to strength, but - 5 or -10 to defense. Also, if you have Shale, there's a certain spell/ability which will have the defense rating drop by 10 points i.e. from say 61 points to 10 points.

I haven't played with any fixpacks in my game. However, I always play with these mods:

Camp Chest (made by Craig Graff)
Extra Dog Slot.
Anytime Party Picker
Anytime World Travel
A mod that lets ud bash chests and doors

Ah, I know there are items in the game that can lower statistics. But these items give "real numbers (integers)"; e.g. '-10'. The error I encountered means (as far as I've understood) that a bug (which I suspect is related to Spell Might) creates integers that the application doesn't expect, and reports them back as "Not a Number" (NaN). One such example is '-0.957839'. WHY this happens is more of a mystery, but I do suspect (as you've read before :-) ) that Spell Might is the cause.
Not SURE though.

Anyway, I  backed up the entire My Documents\Bioware\Dragon Age folder (with subfolders) yesterday, and applied patch 1.04. Got a question if I really wanted to "down-patch". After that, I re-applied patch 1.05.
Everything seems to be in order in my saves, and no DLC or mods appears to have been affected negatively.
