I had a War Table quest where Dagna asked to help her send a message to her estranged father in Orzammar. I chose Josephine's approach and it didn't work. Has anybody tried Leliana's or Cullen's approach? Is the result the same?

I did Josie's approach as well (cuz I kinda hoped it might make her be considered for Paragon-hood).

Sent Cullen. Father sent something back. I don't know if that would count as reconciliation, but it's something.

Cullen's report mentioned a less-than-warm reception, but it does result in Dagna's father sending her the family crest. "Unmounted, so it can't be worn", but she's grateful because that's much more than most surface dwarves have. Sounds like the father is saying, "Tradition demands I can't really acknowledge you, but privately I respect how far you have come and that you are still family."

Does anyone know Leliana's result, or is she not an option?

She is, but I don't know the result. If memory serves, her plan is to sneak Dagna's package into her father's house in a way he can't ignore.

IIRC, Leliana's doesn't work either.

I only did Cullen's approach on that, since, meta-gaming knowing Dagna's father from DA:O, I don't think that Leliana's way will work well. Cullen get the more sensible approach to let him refuse at least... Even succesfull Surfacer won't be anyone at Orzammar I guess.

 

Still, if anyone knows how Leliana's & Josie's solution work... well...

Okay. After I chose Josephine's option I went off to kill one of the three dragons at Emprise du Lion. I don't mind back-tracking to choose Cullen's method. The battle was far easier than the first time I did it.

Josie's had the people of Orzammar, or at least the king, appreciate the work Dagna is doing though Janar is not really that pleased, probably because of the public nature of it all.

 

I think mostly it's just outward appearances and deep down he's proud of her.

Ouch... Well, the thing is I really want to ask Dagna which is the most important to her: her father's acceptance or People of Orzammar's acceptance. I guess that doing Cullen's give lots more personal result for Dagna.

I have no idea if Dagna has a different response depending on what happened. I believe there's a note from the War Table mission ending from her along with the report (only to be seen in the War Room) and her thanking you for your help IIRC.

I've only done Cullen's approach and I think it's best in this instance. He seems to understand that the father would want to keep things private and simple and Dagna seemed happy that she was given the unmounted crest, by her dad.

Any surface dwarf is considered casteless and therefore a nobody in the eyes of dwarven society.  Cullen's sounds like the closest thing Dagna will ever get to actual approval.

I don't think id go that far, he'll always see her as a castless surfacer now & likely feel shame about that no matter her success

The response I got from Leliana's approach was that, as far as her agents could tell, the package they delivered remained unopened and untouched, and Dagna's response was rather sad.  I reloaded and tried Cullen's, and Dagna got the crest.  I haven't tried Josie's approach.

I went with Cullen like most of the people here. I figured that when Dagna's dad sent the crest back, that was about as good as it would get in terms of a reconciliation. Whew, sort of relieved that I did after hearing how Josephine's and Leliana's approaches don't work out in here.

Is it still Dagna who shows up if the warden didn't help her with the circle?

I believe so. I saw a YouTube vid with Dagna showing up even though the Circle in Redcliffe had been destroyed.
