When are you levelled enough for Threatening?

Seems to me that in a public match, joining a lobby when your character isn't even levelled with your basic 4 ability build is being unfair to others.

I don't need every passive, but I won't go Threatening until my basic build is complete. (L11-15 depending on class).

I wiped twice on Threatening yesterday with parties that just weren't empowered.

I tend to join threatning around level 8 with my Templar in PUGs.

But this is because of the gear I run around with, and because Routine gives too little xp at that point.

One match later I have WoH+Purge upgrade, another match and Horn is upgraded and from that point on it's just icing on the cake.

If I had a regular group, I would have no problems carrying people the first and second match, so that they could get level 6-7 in the first run and 9-10 in the second on Threatning.

But I would suspect that the "big boys" don't leave Perious for any reason, a wipe by round 3 or 4 is still alot of XP.

Depends on the kit and equipment really. I've done quite well with some level 1 kits there.

yeah, it can be tough, depending on the players.  while abilities/passives certainly make a difference, with good weapons and acc, a level 1 can still kick some ass.

this is why I wish we could see each player's equipped items, so you at least know if they items are enough.

this really really depends on the class. with a good bow you can take an archer to threatening at level 4 with upgraded archers lance and kick ass. I found if I rush firewall I can take my elementalist at what level 7? not sure off the top of my head. firewall for aoe fear is pretty awesome along with upgraded immolate. oh katari can go as early as level 1. most others if memory serves should wait till level 7.

this is all on the assumption you have good gear. poor gear means is your sol

When you are ready depends on the class and gear. But with supreme gear you are ready at any point really.

As an archer for example I'd say level 4 as all you need is that archers lane and 1 point in leaping shot. Other classes maybe it a bit later. Others even earlier.

Personally I prefer to skip routine alltogether for that quick level up as with top gear you can always make a difference and you've learned how to survive. I'm also a big fan of rotating perilous groups :)

With good gear? Don't even bother with Routine.

Level 1 Archer: spam auto-attack, mix in Explosive Shot for groups.

Level 1 Keeper: you've got Barrier.

Level 1 Legionnaire: be good at timing with Shield Wall and use Payback Strike judiciously. Animation cancel your auto-attacks.

etc.

When you carry the difficulty you're on. Then move up.

I think it all depends on the player and if you have an ok weapon. I can take a level 1 ele or necro on Threatening and do just fine because I have a decent staff. I also know the spawns like the back of my hand and know where to stand to not get sniped. You know that guy that stands there furiously mashing the over here button as you're opening a gold room? That's me, I'm watching the mini map and also just know that another set of mobs are coming and that as soon as you open the door we're now gonna be attacked from both sides often causing a wipe if I'm not leveled. Why must you ignore me? I wish people could see your prestige level so they know you have a good idea what you're doing.

Hm, if i go in on level 1 with that Unique weapon to join Routine and there's really only beginners, i tend to 'steal' all kills or almost all kills. No fun for the real beginners. Thus i only play Routine when level 1 so that's just 1 game. After just the first game i'll be like level 4 already, ready to join Threatening with the killer weapon.

I typically don't move a character into Threatening until lvl 10, simply so that I'll have enough defensive and offensive abilities so that the party doesn't spend all their time and energy rezzing me.

Looks like I'm being too cautious.
My weapons are pretty decent (mostly >l20).
I'll certainly take it to Threatening earlier on your advice but because I don't want to be 'that guy' that lets the side down, I'll do it (class dependent) around level 12-14.

I will suck in public?
Maybe I shouldn't fret about that...

My rule of thumb is good to go for threatening after 2 routine runs, so that's level 6-7 if I remember right. Only exception to that is with my Templar who I keep in routine for another game or two to get the wombo combo.

Nah, not to cautious. I think it's a matter of comfort level and enjoyment. If I go in to low I get frustrated with myself for getting knocked down all the time...that, and watching the f'n game from "the Fade" just sucks. Absolutely sucks. So if I start to feel lvl 10 is to low for a class I have no issue wating until 12 or 13.

I generally wait 'til I'm at or above the level the game recommends. Or until the team is just roflstomping everything in Routine. The exception is my archers. Even at level 1, with the Longbow of the Griffin and Punched by the Maker, I tend to end up "kill stealing."

You are ready for Threatening once you have friends.

I can see this is not an exact science.

I just ran with a team of L 19-20 - it was a relaxing quick win...

Then a lower level team - oh look Level 1 Keeper, they must be good...  No. Total wipe in room 2 !
