@Lordus:  While you SHOULD play the game the way you want to play I think you may be cheating yourself if you don't replay with at least a few different choices.  For example I would "try out" all the LIs you find even the least bit interesting.  Take along different teams in those Citadel elevator rides to listen to other sets of party banter.  Try one of each class and see how much you get hooked with their gameplay variants.  Maybe someday make a Renegade and choose all those ugly decisions you never did as a paragon -- kill Wrex, Shoot Mordin, Make Tali suicide, be TIM's best friend, etc.

While I may never touch ME1-3 again I think if you love the universe and are hooked on the games I'd say give them another run through as time & your "life" allows.

Don't do that.

Try this for a playthrough.

Wow, I looked at your replies and the link Themikefest posted and will consider trying these options.

These choices I saw though go against every bit of my personality in the game. I couldn't stand letting anyone die. But it's always nice to be evil every now and then. I'll definitely change my gaming style drastically for a new experience.

Oh yeah. Renegade can be insanely fun. Nothing like not answering Garrus to explain how Mordin "went along with it" in ME3. ;)

still have a foul taste when i think about it.

but back then, i was very abhor about it. unbelievable how a 15 min ending can screw up an entire franchise. what were they thinking? at least the extented ending was more or less acceptable. at least my choices werent thrown out of the window.

Good thing, you didn't finish the game when it came out. Then you'd not only be depressed, but suiciadal too because of how trashy they handled the end. No epilogoue, no slideshows, no nothing whatsoever, just a confusing piece of garbage.

Was that how it originally was? I remember reviewers complained about the ending when it first came out. I was very unfamiliar with the game however.

I envy that you can use MEHEM...that is pretty much the ONLY thing that would get me to replay the trilogy...but alas...console.

I is a sad volus...

You can always watch it on YouTube and pretend it's the ending your Shepard has had....it's not like the ending is interactive or something :P

Yeah that's true, I wouldn't of liked that personally. It gives me piece of mind knowing that my Shepard is alive and then having a kick ass party in the end :D

I did feel somewhat emotionally dead, for a series I have been playing for over 5 years and the characters, locations and organisations I came to know and fantasize about. For it to end on a cliffhanger providing no real conclusion left me not wanting to replay the game. While the EC did provide more content, it still did not take into account for our actions and merely just extending the ending. As a devout Mass Effect fan, I was shocked to even consider trading in ME3 thinking I would not enjoy the game anymore (however I did not, wanting to wait out on the dlc). I have completed ME3 4 times, ME2 20+ times and ME1 30+. The ammount of times I have completed a game shows where I feel most satified and disatisfied.

Wow, that's very dedicated of you. An amazing goal I say!

Try playing the game with the original ending.

Spoiler

That video is missing the infuriating original "BUY MOAR DLC!!!111!!" message, that popped up afterwards.

Or too much time on my hands. I would put Mass Effect ahead of my studies in most cases. Truely, ME1 and 2 are amazing games but ME3 simply did not deliver the excitement I felt for ME2 where I would start a new playthrough straight after finishing it.

The trilogy felt dead. Everything I did up to the end seamed like it did not matter (before EC ending).

I felt mainly sad and confused.I think that the ending was pretty horrible. it just left a bad taste in my mouth. i felt that feeling of "What?" and "That was it?". Upon the extended ending arriving i just felt the same feeling, although it was kind of rewarding seeing your war assests coming to help. There wasn't enough of it. I just hope that the indoctrination theory is true.

OP: I felt exactly the same way, and did exactly the same things as you. In fact, I didn't pick any of the Mass Effect games back up until about mid-2014. Last year, though, I downloaded all of the DLC and gave it another shot. For me, it fixed the game almost completely. I haven't tried MEHEM (just got it on PC a week ago and I'm still playing through ME2 - my first run was on the 360) but I think I might. It sounds pretty much like what I wanted out of the ending.

I honestly thought I did something wrong. My first reaction was to blame myself, that I missed something or I picked wrong because there was no way that was the "real" ending. After staring at the "Buy more DLC!" message in disbelief (still can't believe that existed) I went back and picked control instead of destroy. When I got the exact same ending but with a blue beam (couldn't believe that either), that's when the depressing realization hit me. And then when I didn't think the ending could get any worse I went on the forums and discovered there was synthesis ending (I didn't have that option) and felt even more disgusted. It was one punch to the gut after another, I didn't want to play video games for a while after that.

Where the devil was this in the game of Priority Earth? are you talking about the intro when they all arrive? because that is short lived if it ever was.

As for IT....see this link

http://forum.bioware...ned/?p=18281186

from my posts on and my subsequent posts. While IT fixes a number of problems with the ending...It is a direct retcon on the codex and the lore. Not to mention it puts the entire trilogy - much like the original ending - at risk.

still soo much negativity here.. I think OP meant the other kind of sad feeling

And I agree OP its just such a great game series (definitely my favourite despite all the hate it receives) quite awesome that you restarted it immediately after one playthrough

I "only" play it every year so it doesn't get too much

Since a few playthroughs I also have a canon Shepard (what big choices to make, My LI etc.) and I don't change that anymore it feels wrong

@Lordus:  If it matters I think I played ME1 through dozens of times and through almost all of my playthroughs I believe I only had one "really" renegade character [for import into ME2].  I did have a charismatically incompetent character or two which showed me just how different my playthroughs looked when I couldn't talk myself out of certain situations.

One of the good things [IMHO] about Mass Effect is there is enough viewpoints / material / etc. that it offers GREAT replay value especially if you allow yourself to be immersed into the story / environment / etc.

I don't know, I still have that strange feeling like there's more to. I really want to play it again but knowing the ending I'll get (MEHEM) I couldn't possibly try a renegade play through, against my nature, even if it's a game. My first LI was liara, then on my second play through was Tali; I liked her better :)

Great replay value indeed, I still want to play through them all again.

It does have a lot of replay value. I've done many different playthroughs. When I get tired of playing DAI, I will do another ME playthrough

I agree with this. I just replayed the Prothean Artifact mission to recruit Javik and picked a renegade option when he talks about doing whatever it takes to destroy the Reapers. He called me a liar. Pretty sure this doesn't happen to a psycho Shep but I'd need to replay to be sure.

Since the ending of ME3 I haven't touched the Mass Effect series, the ending basically killed it for me. Just so much to do when all it comes down to is picking Blue, Red or Green. I've just tried starting it up again with ME1 and it's really hard going. Before ME3 I played ME1 and ME2 dozens of times, but now it's really hard to feel enthusiastic about it.

Javik was one of my favorites :D Loved how he wants to throw everything out of the airlock. Did you have the Citadel DLC? He had a bad dream about primitives.
