I didn't soften her, in a turbulent time like this, especially(hopefully)if they continue the Inquistion story in the next game. You need people like her to do the hard work, unless your going to do it yourself, which in turn makes you hypocrite to tell her not to--someon has to do the dirty work. She is well equipped for the task and if you soften her, she will just fall back to the hardened side anyway at some point. The Warden can make her soft as baby food, but duty is very important to her and her skill set makes her optimal for a specific kind of work.

....
Although it kinda becomes a no-win scenario for my Warden, since she's my choice for Divine, thus severing any romantic contact between the two (without risking a Chantry-shaking scandal).
Pretty sure the romantic contact isn't severed. My warden will be watching his hardened love's back and helping with the killing once he licks the calling issue.

I thought the Divine couldn't have those kinds of relationships anymore due to her spiritual marriage to the Maker; that doing so would be adultery on a cosmic level and the highest form of blasphemy - or something like that. Not sure if that's supported in-story or just a presumption on my part, but that's the perspective I'm coming from.

Read that it has been confirmed in her case it doesn't end relationship. Leliana wiki says source is twitter.
Even without that confirmation Leliana is ripping up the playbook so fundamentally in her reforms, i see no reason that she won't retain her lover.

I hardened her... went through the outcome for a while, reloaded and went the other path. Stuck with the other path. I thinks he was already hardened enough, she needed to be reminded that she's better than that and at least that's how I prefer her in my playthroughs (non-hardened).

It would be incredibly disturbing if I softened Leliana. It would feel like my Inquisitor has split personality disorder since he's always ruthless as hell and decapitates anyone he judges. Here's a guy who told Vivian to kill a noble dude for being annoying and stabbed a member of the Orlesian royal family infront of the entire Imperial court. I may be ruthless as hell but atleast I'm not a hypocrite..

I hardened her, for the same reason I kill Gaspard rather than go with the "everyone can get along" winter palace ending with all three: Substantial change needs to happen, and naive, warm/fuzzy thoughts will not bring about lasting change in the chantry. Racial & gender equality? Free mages? These things won't happen without conflict with chantry/templar reactionaries. Pretending otherwise is just going to get divine lelianna overthrown / assassinated.

Why not have Cassandra as divine? Keeping Leliana for spying....... Hard in soft. Although her jealously deserves to be cloistered, seen as though she was all girl anyway, with the only singing voice, kinda the attraction, damn those romance options....
