Since like all BW games after a certain point it becomes a piece of cakes regardelss from class or specialization, which is the most powerfull class eraly on? Specialization does not count.

I found sword and shield warrior to be very durable and versatile early on.  Shield Wall works against everything, Lunge and Slash is a great gap-closer, Payback Strike clears all negative effects (burning, feared, stunned, knocked down).  Every point you take in the SnS tree both makes you more durable, and more versatile against early difficulty encounters.

SnS for being able to survive everything early on and do some decent damage too. Pretty much it. If your talking alone anyway with no other help. Rogues have a tough time early and so do mages.

Pre-Skyhold is considered the hardest part of the game for a reason.

Fire Wall is the best pre-skyhold skill in the game.

Exactly same thing I was thinking. I played first campaign with a two handed warriors and it was challenging. Tried a second with S&S and I felt like being a god in camparison.

What about mages. What would be the optimal build pre-skyhold?

Fire Wall is the best pre-skyhold skill in the game.

Really? I never bother to invest a point in this skill because it seems too situational too me. How do you use if effectively?

Use tactical cam so you can spin the orientation of it, straight out from you is better than sideways, and watch melee enemies just get stuck feared in it for a while.

The things I need so far:

Fire mine - Main damage ability.

Energy Barrage - Main damage ability.

Barrier - Sort of need it to survive rangers 'n stuff!

Guardian Spirit - An "Oh ****!" passive. I should never be low health more than once every minute, so this is awesome!

Chain Lightning - Solid CC.

Winter's Grasp - Another solid(Pun intended) CC.

Fade Step - Core ability. No mana damage and movement spell.

Fire Wall - Solid CC apparently. Looks like it can stop melee.

Winter's Stillness - While both Energy Barrage and Fire mine moves the character, I need the mana regeneration desperately until I get Rift Mage!

Looks solid to me.

It's all about those survivability skills.  If you're not generating Guard, Barrier or using Stealth, then you're gonna have a tough time.  Once you build up Cass to handle agro management well, the main thing you'll have to worry about is AoE attacks, which makes it slightly easier being a ranged character than a melee character.

Unless of course, you're an Tank Warrior.  Tanks in this game are just godly.  Just keep Solas with you, since he's pretty good with the barrier tossing, and you will probably never use a health potion yourself.
