The title says it all, ME2 just wont start when I hit 'Play'.  I just finished intalling the Collector's Edition and tried to launch the game, the menu with all the links pops-up but as soon as I hit 'Play' the window closes and that's it.  If anyone could give me a hand with this I'd really appreciate it.

I have the exact same problem, only my copy of the game is a normal copy. I assume you're running ME2 on Windows?

After reading some things over, I think I may have discovered the problem. Read the spec. requirements carefully. They *require* a dual core processor. I haven't updated my machine in a few years. I have a GeForce 8800 GTX (768 MB of dedicated graphics RAM), 3 gigs of system RAM. The only problem is that my processor is still single core. Grats to BioWare on making a game that I can't play until I shell out a few hundred bucks for a new MB, CPU, and RAM. Great F-ing job guys!!! Way to make the game accessable!

No error message at all is a hard one to crack. can you all post your specs. OS CPU and all that. maybe we can find a common thing.

Those specs have been out for a while now. That's not their fault.

Well I'm not very computer savvy, but I bet that is my problem as well. I only bought it for PC cause I don't have a 360.

My processor says "Intel® Core 2 Duo CPU"

Guessing that is not a dual core?

That's a crazy fast graphics card with a single core CPU. Though, really, a AMD combo isn't all that much.

Dont be so fast on your hate. I've been reading many post of people with songle cores (mostly P4 owners) running the game. It seems to be a problem with only having 1 core (p4 having 1 real, 1 fake) and not actually them having a slow cpu.

From the readme:

Game Known Issues

-----------------

Mass Effect 2 does not run optimally on a computer with a single core

CPU. We recommend that Mass Effect 2 PC is not played on a system

with a single core CPU.

I'm able to load into the game correctly with a single-core CPU. It may not be the fastest, prettiest thing in the world but I get in. You guys have a different problem...

aren't Core 2 Duos superior to INtel Pentium Dual Core processors?

I'm using Intel Core 2 CPU 6400 @ 2.13GHz (sucks but this is a 6 year old computer) and I know it's dual core simply because two graphs are shown instead of one when I click the performance tab after I 'ctrlaltdel'. So clearly the problem stems from elsewhere.

Just wondering if anyone knows the quickest way to check my computers specs.  I tried to check prior to getting the game, but was unable to find them and assumed that my computer could run Mass Effect just as it has run Spore and World of Warcraft before.

Who's being fast on their hate? If the game states you need this amount of required hardware to run, you can't be upset with the developer because you don't have the required hardware.
