I had an idea and I wanted to see if you guys liked it, so here it is:

TL;DR: If Shepard dies in ME2 there should be 3 missions where you play as Kaiden/Ashley and you, Vega and Liara return to earth after Mars and die, showing how much of a difference Shepard actually makes.

You remember how Shepard could die in Mass Effect 2? What if you could play ME3 with that save imported?

My idea is that you play as Kaiden/Ashley and you accompany Anderson to the meeting, where he warns them about the reapers in Shepards place, after that you go through the first mission, which would be almost identical, save for you would be saved at the end by Vega on a ship other than the Normandy.

After this you would play the Mars mission, because with Shepard or no, Anderson would still need someone to go there and find the information on the Reapers thats up there. The mission would go relatively the same as well, with you playing as Kaiden/Ashley with Vega, and an Alliance soldier (maybe Major Coats, just to have a kinda familiar face?) The main differences would be at:

- the beginning, where the ship you flew in on is attacked by the Normandy, which is under Cerberus's control, because of the end of ME2.

- the end when the Alliance soldier, replacing Kaiden/Ashley is killed by Dr. Eva instead of being mortally wounded.

Instead of the mission ending there, however Vega, Kaiden/Ashley, and Liara (who is with the group at this point, because she was on Mars) all take a shuttle aboard the Normandy to reclaim it for themselves. After a quick fight through the Normandy, you encounter Joker with a gun, who would still believe that Cerberus is like it was in ME2. you can make a few choices here, which may result in the death of Vega since he's new to the game and Joker doesn't know him, but in the end you convince Joker to take the Normandy back to earth to join the fight.

The Final mission would take place on Earth, and after a quick fight with the reapers Vega (Depending if he died on the normandy) gets overcome by reapers and Liara is shot Kaiden/Ashley would run to her and say something before she dies.

After this he/she will fight the reapers with a steeled resolve, everyone he/she knows dead, but is quickly brought down by the onslaught of reapers, Anderson returns to save him and as Kaiden is dying, they both she the Normandy get shot out of the sky as it comes to pick them up, and come crashing right on top of them

Depressing, I know but it would be a cool last hurrah for those terrible ME2 saves. I don't know much about game development, but I don't think they would need too many new game models or scenes created so it wouldn't take too much time or money to make, but what do you guys think?

It's an interesting idea but you would be playing as a pre-defined character, rather than your own Shep, which would lessen the appeal. It's also pretty much a novelty 'what if' scenario (a bit like the refuse ending to ME3), which wouldn't really justify the time and expense to make. They would have to pay to get all the voice actors back, for starters.

Nice concept tho. Maybe it would work well as a comic or a short animated movie.

I'm pretty sure that if they had the development time and money for it they would have open the possibility for a new character just like they did in DA Awakaning with the Orlesian warden replacing the DAO warden if he died at the end.

Yes, like SW Infinities... Huh, that is a good concept for it.

I think having two entirely different main characters would strain resources beyond the breaking point. That is probably why very early (like immediately after ME2 was released) the ending where Shepard died was declared non-canon.

Might not have been much of an issue if they accelerated the 'clone' storyline a little....:D
