I used a Reaver warrior and nightmare was effortless. Fights were so trivial I just randomized my party in an attempt to gain some enjoyment. Beat the game without a tank, that's how bad it was. Impossible for Vivienne or Blackwall to ever die and my guy deals insane damage just holding down dragon rage.

I wouldn't mind how easy the game is (nearly all Bioware games require no effort to beat), but the story was rubbish so I needed SOME difficulty. This game was ALMOST as easy as Skyrim.. that's how bad it is.

I have heard that so many things were OP on nightmare: Knight Enhancer, crafting, tempest, artificer, Champion. Maybe instead of calling players out for being "cheap", is it my fault I found a tier 3 masterwork greatsword within 20 mins of going to the Hissing Wastes, and instead call out the game itself. There was absolutely no challenge in this game, and now I'm level 23 and have beaten it and have already sold it back to Gamestop. Done with bioware.

there are meany different people, for some its challenging enough & some cant handle nightmare, never played in nightmare, cause i don't like to much challenge, so ur point is invalid, its easy to u, but not for all, for me its normal, so this post is kind of pointless

Yea, but isn't normal and easy mode for the noobs? What about people that are actually good at video games? We get shafted?

Did I ever say Dark souls was hard? Dark souls is actually quite easily, it's just now what the modern gamers are used too since all games have been dumbed down.

Final Fantasy games are easy but at least they put difficult optional bosses we can fight after we've beaten the game so we have a reason to keep playing and some type of challenge.

suggest new difficulty lvl to Bioware what comes after nightmare (i mean that they would add new difficulty lvl to game, in sacred 1 game dev's did that, later on added a new difficulty lvl with patch or was it with DLC), to me game becomes easy at lvl 20 or 22, when i can craft the best stuff, & that's the only time i craft, cause i use material that is limited in game, a lot of dragon bone, & looted stuff is not so good, with lvl 20 rouge & then switch to nightmare, well that maybe i can handle, but to build up, start the game from nightmare, i doubt that i survive, dragon fight its hard enough in normal, companions require to much attention from me, i don't like to go on tactics mode after awry 5sec cause Ai is dumb as hell, dragons are only reason i stay on normal

only game i played on nightmare was Witcher 2

Play this game on the PC with only a mouse and keyboard.  That'll fix you right up.

You came to a story driven Bioware RPG looking for an epic challenge? Wtf?

You're not "good at video games" you're lucky with the rng on a gear dependent class. -.-

Crafting in DA:I is balanced like Skyrim crafting was "balanced".

I never know how to interpret these "nightmare is too easy!" posts because they all leave out a critical detail: was friendly fire turned on or off?

Of course combat will be easy if you can taunt everything then drop AoE (or place a mine) on your own head.

(not to mention, there are plenty of ways to get a challenge beyond turning FF on, like soloing fights or attacking enemies while undergeared/underleveled)

Advise to you OP, some will always find 99% of the game out there now not challenging. So do yourself a favor and dont buy any game. Tell me a game you find hard and I will find you a few hundred that says it is too easy.

My advise to you, play online against other players if you are so freaking good. People who complain about stat base single player RPG difficulty usually sux at gaming.

you can always solo the game as a 2 handed warrior, i guarantee no one, even the most masochistic of players will find this easy.

You state that all Bioware games require no effort to beat, meaning you bought this game fully well knowing what to expect in terms of difficulty..... but then you still come on here to cry about how easy it is and tell us all how "done" you are with Bioware? Troll alarm going off, nice try though.

This is supposed to be an RPG. At least that is what the company have chosen to sell it as.

I don't really care if the game is hard to beat combat wise. I've played my share of FPS. You grow old and loose interest in all the hack and slash. It's a minor 'teenage' thing for me now. I've killed enough.

I want more quests, puzzles and especially dialogues. I want complex dilemmas that challenge my judgement, feelings and logic. And I also want a good story told well.
I find it challenging to ensure thing go well and all ends up 'and they lived happily ever since'. That's what counts. I wouldn't mind if they mixed 'The Sims' into a world like Thedas.

When you try to mix all the ingredients into one single game it will always leave some unsatisfied. Maybe games have developed a great del, but there is still a long way to that particular one where everyone will be satisfied.

All in all I think Bioware is on the right track. Their games are in top of the pyramid. No doubt about it. All we can do is support them, make sure to send them some of your money for making new games. And even that's a game, isn't it?

Bro

you used blackwall and vivenne

no wonder the game seemed easy on nightmare

seriously. you have the best tank in all of the game, maybe the series outside of a SnS warden commander with 140 defense stat tanking for you.

Blackwall could spin in circles with aggro and not die.

and you have the only party member with what is considered the easiest easy mode spec in the game.

Vivi shits on dragons. Rolls up to dragon, taps it once with her staff and fucker rolls over and plays dead.

Or is dead. Probably dead.

Witcher 2 Nightmare was quite nice (played it once in Nightmare), it was not 2 hard, its just forced me to do more tactics, Jump Roll away & block with Sword & that kind of a stuff, cause enemy made more damage to me, but enemy got same damage & had same HP then they had in normal, it other words, it forced me more to use Tactics, it felt interesting, but not to hard, so i skipped 1 or 2 difficulty lvl's, first i was thinking, i'm gonna die :D, but managed somehow, like some said, whats hard for u maybe be easy for me & whats easy for me mite be hard for u, cause people are different & all games are different, & my point is, try Witcher 2, to me it felt normal, not to hard not to easy, & i mean Nightmare

in Witcher series i was more use to more hack & slash & almost no tactics, so the first boss, that giant squid was ferry hard at first, it took 30Min or 1H to learn a bit of Withcer Tactics to beat that monster

Want a difficult single player game examples? Try XCom Impossible Ironman (gets easy towards the end in expansion, because they've added a lot of OP stuff, but is challenging enough through all game in original)  or try getting "conquer the world as ryukyu" achievement in EU4 - I think only a small number of people in the world have that.

I'm not sure why BW reinvent the wheel every time with stats and combat system. DA:O scaling worked pretty well until level 20 or so, but it had 4 major problems: super high defense = 100% dodge, super high armor = 100% mitigation, stacking spell resist (and how it worked in the first place) and stacking dodge %. Well, also potion abuse, but it was not needed with the first 4.

In DA2 they finally decided to add some caps on defense stats (a good idea) and capped dodge and damage mitigation. That was nice. I'd say after patches it was the most balanced combat system out of 3, albeit it had its problems as well.

Now in DA:I they've thrown everything out of the window again plus added broken crafting, so now you can be immune to damage with good gear and also deal absurd damage compared to the previous installments. Also, overall lack of threatening (and mechanically interesting) enemies is disturbing.
