I used a Reaver warrior and nightmare was effortless. Fights were so trivial I just randomized my party in an attempt to gain some enjoyment. Beat the game without a tank, that's how bad it was. Impossible for Vivienne or Blackwall to ever die and my guy deals insane damage just holding down dragon rage.

I wouldn't mind how easy the game is (nearly all Bioware games require no effort to beat), but the story was rubbish so I needed SOME difficulty. This game was ALMOST as easy as Skyrim.. that's how bad it is.

I have heard that so many things were OP on nightmare: Knight Enhancer, crafting, tempest, artificer, Champion. Maybe instead of calling players out for being "cheap", is it my fault I found a tier 3 masterwork greatsword within 20 mins of going to the Hissing Wastes, and instead call out the game itself. There was absolutely no challenge in this game, and now I'm level 23 and have beaten it and have already sold it back to Gamestop. Done with bioware.

Starcraft: Broodwar elitist I take it?

Problem is that greater difficulty usually just means facing bullet sponges and one-shot killers...neither which is really any more fun in terms of tactical gameplay...I would love more difficulty if it meant more situations where you need to make crucial tactical choices and plans, rather than having to press my button faster to dodge out of the way for the fireball that will otherwise kill me...

So, let's sum it up:

DA: O -> best story

DA: 2 -> best combat

DA: I -> best world/enviroinment

Let's hope DA: 4 will be a merge of the three :D

I think the thread opener clearly has some troubles with his self confidence if he needs to stomp in and troll everyone how good he may be - of course we will never know for sure. Nevertheless, he points to an important problem of this game, although his arrogant tone may distract you from it: the lack of tactical fights.

The AI is sub par and like some already mentioned just harder hitting enemies dont make it better. If you turn off FF (which was a nightmare feature in previous games) you just keep Spamming aoe and win. Then of course, the better items you have, the easier it gets, but I think thats part of the fun to become godlike in these games.

All in all this installment seems like another sad step towards WoW. Roll through it with good gear, lots of clickaway quest text boxes, lots of quest markers... Like star journalist Jörg Luibl analyzed.

But dont get me wrong, I think it is worth the time anyway :)

Gotta love "free markets". If you don't like it, don't buy it. It'll take care of itself.

This games not that hard on Nightmare, save for a few specific encounters, but threads like this are just pointless self-gratification.

Skyrim was also somewhat difficult before you used crafting to break it.  Having the option to become overpowered with all the best stuff isn't necessarily a bad thing, but people who do it and then complainbrag about it are just annoying.  If you looked up where all the best schematics were and rushed to them you only have yourself to blame.

I do think everything should scale to your level, though, as out-leveling areas and quests is a problem you can't really avoid by playing legit.

I think that this game is impossible to enjoy, but for other reasons:

1) Terrible PC (M+KB) controls

2) Horrrible "tac cam" feature - can't zoom out, select entire party, etc.

3) Party members don't follow through with commands issued

4) Putrid AI - see above, plus MANY more (problems) exist

5) Abysmal User interface.  Scrolling up and down in inventory screen(s), etc

6)  The BUGS...oh my the BUGS (also too numerous to list)

7)  Tactics are gone...this is a straight-up, button-smashing, controller-oriented action game

8)  Electronic Arts

9) zero communication from Bioware

10) Bizarre social agenda shoved into this game for no reason except to get special awards from special interest groups

Actually, I have a lot more to complain about - I've just touched upon a few problems.  They certainly have a LOT to work on (i.e. fix).  No wonder they're so slow on this "Patch 3" that eveyone keeps talking about...

Yeah I had a rough time in the beginning.  When your gear sucks and you haven't figured out the combat and controls.  Then I started getting better stuff and it got better.  I am on level 13 pre specialization and I am still having some hard times, but that's fun.  To be honest I still haven't figured it out yet.

Yes...I can see that you really didn't enjoy it, considering you felt it necessary to go to the combat and strategy subforum and point out 10 negative things about the game where only 3 actually had anything to do with combat and strategy...

Try a dual dagger rouge as your main on nightmare. I dare you. Even on hard it's such a pain since you get killed constantly.

The game has a bit of a learning curve. Like so many RPGs as you progress the feeling of any material danger vanishes. I always liked BG more than BG2 in some ways because there was some air of potential failure in each encounter because you were lower level. DAI carries that on early on. By mid to late game that feeling of any issues vanishes, buried under a wash of powers and crafted equipment? Game should have much slower progression because it becomes insanely easy to just out level the whole flippin' thing very quickly as well.

I think the OP has a point, even though I've yet to play the game on nightmare, so perhaps I should wait until doing so until I deem it too easy. The sad thing is that we probably won't see mods addressing this. For BG2 there's Ascension (well, sort of an "official" mod), for Oblivion there's OOO and for Skyrim there's Requiem, just to mention a few examples of overhauls making the games more "hard core". It would be nice to see mods like that for DA:I, but I guess that won't happen, considering how "mod unfriendly" the game is.

^^^  I thought his point was that he's the best, hard-gamer ever.  In the history of the world.  That's what I got out of his post/topic....and I agree.  He really does sound like a formidable playa'.  He should just retire from gaming and start working on that cure for cancer.  Bless you, Waylander,

Did it, first character. As soon as I got tempest the difficulty plunged, and it never recovered. I stopped using any focus ability soon after. By the time I got lightning flask I had to stop using any masterwork gear. this was without ever bothering to direct my companions. I went ahead and finished the game at level 17 since there wasn't much else worth doing.
 I didn't even get into all the real badass stuff I've seen others do in videos. I just crafter good gear, and used evade/stealth. It was terribly fun spamming stealth strike until the enemy flew off the screen though. I'll never get sick of that. I also enjoyed spamming throwing daggers with fire flasks. Flasks are OP for sure.

Its not too hard once you get used to evade. Just don't pretend your a tank..well don't pretend you a tank until you have an ice flask up, then tank away.

Although surely Epeen/edong thread and invalid opinion because DAI is spectacular game, probably the best of 2014, I see the point of OP.

I started on normal, found it not so easy. Every rift was a challenge and Fereldon Frostback whipped my ass, but as I progressed, leveled up , and knew more about game mechanics , it got significantly easier. At around level 14 I raised difficulty to hard, still challenge is nowhere as hard as in the beginning. I doubt it will be any different on Nightmare. Do not misunderstand, I still love the game, but even within single game play my playtime has dwindled from worryingly addicted to fixated.

The enemy scale with level up and crafting should be balanced. It's not only DAI problem thought. DAO combat was challenging in a good way, but we must remember people complained about it being too hard.

That's what I'm doing, and I suppose it's down to luck with schematics, but I'm rarely killed.

I've got my armor with a chance of walking fortress, so that helps and a dagger producing guard.

Just got a fade touch with a chance of hidden blades, so I'll craft a dagger with that. Also I have fully upgraded the health regen potion as well.

Granted I don't have friendly fire on either so I'm not getting blasted by my teammates either I suppose.

It probably never occurred to the devs that some things could be done 'out of order' I managed to go straight from T1 gear to T3 gear for many of my characters by making a beeline for the Hissing wastes and Emprise.

I'd even argue it's easier to hit them early since the enemies are mostly level 16. Get the most of T3 gear.

that's not true.

not after you've specialized and when you've learned the exact moments when to attack a big AOE enemy. their swings are slow enough.

so you do crazily great damage and it is not so boring like playing an invincible tank

DAI is true nightmare on nightmare mode if you don't craft.

seriously, I try using only chest found blue items at low level without crafting and runes and it is barely playable. And this is done with chest farming.

biggest problem is without crafting, how do you last till getting specialization. even after getting specialization (which I cant even reach till this stage), how do you survive all the way till end game without ever using the modification tables

no craft no pot. there you got, the hardest game right in front of you.
