I just realized that you are researching my posts.

Why?  I'm a giant no one to you.  You shouldn't care what someone who can't even be bothere to make an avatar says about this forum, the company, or you.  This forum is serious business, I guess.  :P

Seeing a number right below your name is research.

Let this thread die already. OP made a pointless rant and now you people have been going on an on with who's wrong and who's right. We don't care who's better, you're just giving headaches to everyone.

It wasn't pointless to the OP.  Why must everyone feel the need to police the thoughts of others?  He/she felt strongly enough to write a rant.

I'm just enjoying myself watching how people lose their minds because someone criticized the forum.  I almost want to make some popcorn and see who else arrives with righteous indignation to make fun of him or her and shut him up.

The Feedback and Suggestions section is for the purpose of us speaking with the Bioware staff, is it not?

See, the thing is, there's difference between the nature of these topics. The "shining gay knight thing" has examples of negative portrayals of gay characters when it comes to their personality ("evil", "promiscuous" etc) and asks for content which puts such gay characters in more pleasant light.

In contrast, when you have someone complain "Cassandra is fugly, I want my LI to look pretty" this implies that not being beautiful is something bad. This, unlike the gay knight premise is a view many people will disagree with (either because it hits close home with them or out of simple empathy) and so it sparks arguments and insults.

The "do we really need gay content" thing is even worse, because it simply boils down to not wanting to see content that the author has no personal interest in or happens to dislike it, which is obviously going to do nothing but upset these who do want to see this content. I mean, when it's about removing/hiding content instead of putting it in the game then it's pretty much the opposite of what the 'gay knight' is about.

Do you see now why such different in their nature topics can get different treatment in the end?

I've seen responses to posts that Cassandra isn't pretty or feminine enough for the straight males that will say absurd things like "we want real women portrayed" as if we don't come with long hair or that long haired traditionally feminine women aren't acceptable or something equally as inane as that.

The response is meant to be pro-woman but is as equally reprehensible as the ones that say she's not feminine enough.

Everyone has tastes and preferences.  I have a gay male friend who didn't agree with me that Dorian was hot and said he looked like Freddy Mercury.  Uh, no.  But who am I to judge what makes his peen sit up?

Having a discussion on the looks of females--something we are sociologically programmed to sit up and take notice about is on the same level as the gay memes.  Women are told how they should look by others.  Gay men are portrayed as sluts.  These things are reality and whether or not you are telling me I should look like Cassandra instead of Isabella, you're still telling me how I should think about myself.

So, potentially they can be the same level of issue.

Potentially.

No.

The 'do we really need gay content' thing boils down to how unrealistic it is to have this many different sexualities in that small group. Moreover, if Bio are to create 'gay content' and include it in their games, they should be extra-meticulous and careful to make this a quality content (which I argue is poor, sadly); otherwise, they do a disservice to all people of sexuality other than straight.

It is unrealistic, but I am a pro-market person.  The company knows who buys its products.  What's wrong with catering to us?  Should the NFL change it's programming to put in more commercials for women?

Yes, we watch football but not as many of us do as males.

From a purely market standpoint? If these commercials include women cheerleaders in rather revealing clothes advertising jewelry or a new washing machine, then they should (as such maneuver tries to appeal to both genders - guys drool over half-naked girls, and gals can admire some nice rings, necklaces; ideally, you gain). But, certain groups will surely get offended and in this day and age, you cannot offend anyone. It brings bad rep. It's like a jinx everyone tries to stay away from.

Market machinations are just a small part of running a successful business.

@Psychevore--do you have a beard or mustache, wear checked shirts, and carry a postal satchel?  Just a question.  You don't need to answer it.  :D

<Looks in mirror at beard.  Looks in closet at my checked shirts.  Looks at coat rack at my satchel>  Wait a second......what are you insinuating?

I'm not quite sure why the OP keeps bringing up the gay KISA thread and then immediately back-pedaling that that thread is fine and should be allowed.  There have not been any threads recently about the looks of the female LI's that haven't been insulting or suggest that there is a conspiracy against straight men that I can remember.  It's not about the content of the thread; it's about the way that it's put forward.  There is a thread open right now in the feedback section where the OP is asking for a straight female elf companion (actually, there are two of them).  They have both been open for weeks and neither have been locked.  Why?  Because the OP's have started the threads without making it about "agendas" or insulting the looks of the female characters.  Calm, rationale OP's tend to elicit calm, rationale responses.  Not always.  And people (including myself) are quick to jump on the overabundance of 'LI's for the straight male audience' threads because there have been, literally, dozens of them and they have almost all gone sour quickly (mostly for the reasons that I mention above).

Had the gay KISA thread started with, "Why does Bioware keep putting in sissy, feminine gay men who make all gay men look bad?  We need to see real men for the gay LI's, not mincing queens like Dorian.  Bioware is homophobic and the way that they create gay male characters shows that", I suspect that the thread would have been locked right away.  But it wasn't.  It was a well-written and thought out argument in favor of offering a different character type for that demographic.  The posts in that thread that were deleted were few and far between and were against board rules.

For the record that's how my So dresses, so it was a joke at my own expense.

As for the other stuff you said, I love RuPaul.  He is my philosopher.  Right up there with Voltaire, really.  He said that there is no subject you can't address and no word that cannot be used if you have the right intent.

Not everyone has the same level of eloquence or ability to articulate a topic the same way.  I've noticed a certain propensity on here to treat a post like someone just handed in a motion or memorandum to a court of law.  When I see that on a forum, see someone actually post in bold that something is their "own opinion and only anecdotal evidence" I know right away that people are getting beat down over legalism and rigorous expecations of formal debate.

On a politcal forum, that's okay I guess.  This is a gaming forum.  If games aren't fun why play them?

People for the sake of brevity will say make a generalization.  We could argue all day if generalizations are evil or not, but I say its not a sin only a problem depending on who you're speaking to.  Normally, you can tell by someone's mannerisms what they mean (if the intent is good) on a forum it's harder.  Unfortunately, people assume the worst here not best from someone's words and I think that's a problem because it stifles dialogue that can promote good things.

Yet threads like these are still up and unlocked: http://forum.bioware...tube-is-stupid/for almost 8 pages this thread has been "hurr durr religion is dumb, straight is dumb hurr durr" since this morning(over 12 hours). Yet it remains, while threads asking for "Prettier" straight male romances are flamed and closed.

Wow, yeah that thread got bad. Surprised it is still open since insulting religions is against the Site Rules.

Right but who is Bioware offending?  There may be a disproportionate number of gay people in the party comparable to real life, but your Inquisitor is always what you are, so if you're straight so is he/she and there are still things for you to do.

They are showing who they understand their demographics are, but that also includes straight males to a lesser degree.  In other words, they still have chicks to bang.

I actually wonder how much use the "report" button gets around here. Seemingly every time I log in, I stumble across a post saying "mods, please lock this if you see this," as if mods actually read every thread on the forum.   Like, if it isn't reported, nothing is going to happen, for the most part.

Of course, there are also times when nothing happens, despite report volume. In any case, I sure don't envy the mod team here.

I hear you OP.  I made a constructive thread about the gay issues in the games and the trend and it was a hot topic, 155 replies in 2 hours and over 4k views that quick! A mod locked it in 2 hours.   If you read it I brought out how the lead developer said he is putting gay issues and agenda into the games and I argued how I don't want them putting their issues into the games and turning them into their preach sessions.  The lead developer says he intentionally puts issues in the game and wants dialogue on it then the mods shut down any dialogue that isn't agreeing with them doing it.  And for those who can't read well, I said "issues" not just gay people in game.  Dorian would have been completely fine but then they put the dialog to explain what he means by being attracted to men, and his whole personal quest story about his father not accepting his gayness and wanting to make him straight, etc.  No need for any of that crap. Bought a game to play a game in a fantasy world, if you have a gay character fine, but don't try to sneak in some preach sessions.

here is that thread I am talking about http://forum.bioware.../#entry18130217

Saying 'I don't want gay issues in games' is not constructive. IMHO.

It can be.  Had people been remotely willing to engage minds could have been changed.  In Buddhism they teach you all events are an opportunity for learning.

I'm female and switch hit.  If someone said they didn't want feminist issues in games I'd ask why even if I heard it a thousand times.  It's not progressive to shut down any dialogue because you end up right back where you were thirty years ago only with different groups marginalized.

That's revenge, not progress.  It's only progress when we all move forward together and that can't happen as enemies.

What?  Do you think Dr. King and Gandhi liked getting hit with firehoses?

What are some ugly posts? I read all the posts and don't see anybody being ugly.  The only ugliness I may see are those who don't allow people to voice their opinions if it doesn't agree with their own and should probably never leave their house or they might get offended.

Seemed like it was heading in that direction with all the sudden "so many gays is unrealistic" & BW having "gay issues" in their games talk
