Dammit - are there *any* masterwork staff schematics in the game?

I haven't seen any for almost four games now. I get a ton of two-handed weapons and upgrades for them (which is really insulting since this is the one weapon class I never use, not even for companions), but tier 3 masterwork schematics for any other weapon class (excepting upgrades which you do get from random chests) are basically non-existent outside of the Hissing Wastes tombs, and those are always the same and don't include a staff.

So, are there any tier 3 masterwork staff schematics? If so, how the heck do I get them?

Oops. Sorry, I overlooked that a thread about mage schematics already exists. Please ignore.

Yes ... all the Masterwork Weapons and Superior Armors are evenly distributed among all the different tiers, weapon types and armor types.  Where to find them differs ... but they are all there.

I think I got some in my latest playthrough, but for the life of me I can't remember where.

Oh! I think you can get some in the Hissing Wastes Shop in the canyon floor store.

You can get Masterwork Archon Staff from a war table mission if you make certain choices. If you don't mind spoilers or have already finished the game I'll post how to get in in a spoiler below.

I'm not going to take that route in my main Inquisitor's playthrough, and anyway if it's equal to the First Enchanter and Seer Staffs it's not worth it anyway. Except for cosmestics, which are always a consideration.

I've read about something named a "Mortalitasi Staff" in an online list somewhere. Does anyone know where that one can be found?

I remember reading from several different sites that it can be farmed from Elven Ruins.

Elven ruins? There are quite a few elven ruins in the game, and the only map with that name is a multiplayer map, which doesn't help at all. Or are people speaking of Dinan'hanin (the place you access from the Emerald Graves)?

I think Chardonney means the Cradle of Sulevin, you can farm most tier 3 schematics there.

The highest DPS I've seen on a schematic for a staff is 115, is it possible to get any higher than this? One of the vendors was selling a staff with decent stats and 145 DPS, is it really worth crafting my own?

The Masterwork Archon Staff and Grand Enchanter Staff has the same DPS.

The Masterwork Archon Staff has a Cloth (Magic/Willpower) where The Grand Enchanter Staff has leather (Cunning/Dexterity).

The Masterwork Archon Staff also has a Metal Utility Slot (Constitution/Strength). If you want a real battlemage this staff is for you.

Those 145 DPS include the effects of a rune. Put a superb spirit rune on a staff crafted from tier 3 or 4 materials (112 or 115 damage) and you'll probably end up with more than 145 total. You can also make specialized staffs with corruption, demon-slaying and dragon-slaying runes which will get you even more. Unfortunately, it's almost impossible to craft a superb cleansing rune since there aren't enough Revenants in the game to get the 6 hearts (those in the Cradle of Sulevin don't drop any hearts).

Seer Staff is the best for DPS due to the Leather Offense slots, imo.  I'm not a fan of how it looks, though.

Hilted Staff Grip + Dragon Staff Blade are maybe the best upgrades.

Ok, that decides it. I don't want that staff for my mage. I'll stick with the Seer Staff for efficiency and something else for looking good.

Personally I like the First Enchanter Staff with its double offense slots.

Yeah can't beat the seer staff, one thing that holds true is that just because something is a masterwork, that doesn't mean it's the best out there.. I do hate farming for this schematic when I play mage characters though. Considering some of the best rogue schematics can be found by completing  simple puzzles in the hissing wastes and they are always there with no rng to battle with.

I can only agree. Every class gets its high-class weapon schematic in the Hissing Wastes, except for mages. That sucks.

And I don't think I need to comment on the insane decision to give us one of the two best masterwork staff schematics for an operations chain that depends on allying with the most anti-magic faction on Thedas.

I can only assume that the rationale behind having Masterwork schematics for all classes bar mages in the Hissing wastes is that they are dwarven ruins and dwarves have no magic. Though with the large Venatori presence there, you think they could have found somewhere to put it.

It's really not that big a deal. You can stomp everything with the normal t3 items anyway.

Sure, but for the "perfect" playthrough you'll need the perfect weapon. At least, as perfect as you can make it. In this case, since allying with the qunari would make my game rather severely imperfect in roleplaying and story and the Mortalitasi staff *looks* severely imperfect, I'll be content with a Seer Staff.

it's still odd that you have to ally to with the magic-hating qunari to get the best staff schematic. That makes no sense.

The archon staff comes after you complete an operation in Tevinter so it's not complete non sense since your agents basically "uncover" the schematic in Tevinter. Still I agree it sucks and I only did that one time.

Here and here.

Sorry the Archon screen is from before the patch that let us rotate in the item window.
