I always thought Cassandra was a mediteranean-looking white person, like a french greek or italian. She looked like the typical french girl to me, but i recently watched that dragon age anime, and she looked kinda asian in it, which made me think she might be asian in inquisition. It would make sense since there are very few asian characters in the game (chinese, japanese, et cetera asian)

Whats your opinion?

I wouldn't really use the anime as a reliable source of physical aesthetics since it was created by a Japanese studio and not BioWare.

She doesn't really look that stereotypically Asian either. Looks like a Mediterranean nose to me :P

Her accent is so strong like a Russia accent but without the Russian. Boy, that sure sounded silly...

It's the Nevarran accent that we haven't heard much of yet. I don't see how it's silly given that every nation has its own accent.

I thought it was a french accent from orlais?

These accents are confusing me, one moment english accent is from ferelden, next it is from the free marches. One moment french accent is from orlais, then next it is from nevarra

The voice actress for Cassandra stated that she made Cassandra's accent hard to place.  To me she sounds like she's using a Flemish/Brussels accent of some type, which I think is fantastic if for no other reason than it's fun.

i love listening to cassandra talk.  that accent <3  (serious props to her VA cos her normal voice sounds NOTHING like cassandra)

but yeah, there is no way cassandra is asian.  like lebanese dude said, even her dawn of the seeker version doesn't look that asian by anime standards.

Cassandra always sounded like Isabella Rossellini to me, so thumbs up in my book. We haven't met too many Nevarrans in game, so maybe they all have that accent?

Don't click this if you haven't exhausted all of Cassandra's dialogue and not yet watch the Dawn of the Seeker!

She resembles European Mediterranean women.  And I want to think there's a hint of Marianne in her

It's more or less said that Nevarra's non-Common language is, in fact, Orlesian, so I think the implication is that Nevarra is effectively the ethnic equivalent of Southern France.  Or, well, Navarre.

It seems to me that Nevarra, like the Free Marches, is in a position to have a lot of cultural diversity due to its geographical placement.

I really like the voices and accents in this game.  Each character really seems to have a distinct sound to them.

I believe Bioware said she was black.

If her race/ethnicity is so unclear does she even need one? I'd rather her just be a person.

I think most are just trying to place her accent.  I could be wrong on that.  But Solas, for example, has a lovely Welsh accent.  If I'm wrong and we're actually arguing about where she's "from" or her real world race/nationality, then I apologise and completely agree with you.

She's Nevarran.  An ethnicity to a video game.  She is not real life ethnicity.

Nevarra seems like either Dutch or more likely Austria than anything else.

I actually thought that Nevarra was vaguely like spain in the same way that Ferelden is vaguely like England. This reallly shows how little we know about Nevarra, lol

Nevarran. And it appears they've led other Nevarrans to speak similarly now (like the Necro trainer.. although he's got a thicker Russian accent).

While I don't agree that Miranda Raison sounds nothing like Cassanda especially in her "Walking Tall" video, I heartilly agree that I love listening to her talk.

She can pass for a native in Germany or Switzerland.

I'm thinking Austria due to its status as former Free Marches (HRE), ruling family (Pentaghasts replacing Hapsburgs), and opposition to Orlais.

Rivani is closer to Medieval Spain with its Moorish influence

Isn't it because Cassandra is from her original homeland, but grew up in Orlais?

Sounds to me like she has something like a weak german accent, not French/Orlesian like Leliana or the people you encounter in Val Roueaux. As for Spain, it's by all accounts represented in Thedas by Antiva, both Zevran and Josephine have spanish accents.
