The first video in the list goes over how the banners collection works, what the difference between banners and crowns are, why you'll find two duplicate banner items, and few banner crowns along with one banner that you get by performing some action in Dragon Age Inquisition like upgrading Skyhold or turning in a quest.  The rest of the videos that follow will show you how to hunt down the rest of the banners that you need to finish off the collection.

 

UPDATE: As of Patch 7, the Chantry Banner Crown, Templar Banner/Crown, Circle of Magi Banner/Crown are now available for purchase from the furniture/decorations vendor in Val Royeaux.  That means if you didn't build the Chantry garden you can now get the banner crown you were missing.  That also means that no matter what side you choose, or if you missed picking it up, you can get the Banner and Crown for either the Mages or the Templars.

I have a question: I have all 3 keeps but did not get the inquisition banner crown?

Yes, yes, definitely a bug.  You're not the first to see it.  I was able to resolve this with reloading from a saved game prior to capturing the 3rd Keep and then the banner was properly awarded.  Not sure if that is an option for you, but I wanted to mention it just in case.

First, thanks for the fast answer. What did you do exactly? Just loading before you fly the flag, or do you load before you start conquering the keep?

It's actually a friend who I was watching play when this happened.  We reloaded before flying the flag.  This is getting a bit out of control I know, but even though that worked for him when we did it, this might also be tied to Keep number 2 not having registered properly.  Unfortunately there just isn't any real way to know for sure.  One you know about because you get the Inquisition Banner itself from capturing your first one, but for 2 there is no indication like that and by the time you get to three you're just crossing your fingers.  Wish I had a better answer for you, just one of the many little bugs crawling around inside DA:I at the moment.

With my next playthrough I'll free the last two keeps and save before I fly the banner. And than I will capture both in a short time... maybe this'll work

LOL.  That sounds like a plan.  Given the deafening silence that is Bioware's DA:I team and their communication with us on ANYTHING after that mini-patch that hit over a month ago, when it comes to a patch... well... I'd say wish for a patch in one hand and sh*t in the other, and see which one fills up first.

Quick question: I missed the Templar Banner in Therinfal and there's no way to go back there. Does that mean the completionist in me will have to stare at 21/22 banners when I'm done with my playthrough, or is there any way to get the banner after the fact?

 

Edit: Just noticed that because I built the Herb Garden I can't get the banner topper associated with the Chantry Garden either, so with the choices I've made in my playthrough, I would be locked at 21/22 anyway, even if I got the Templar Banner. Great.

Depending on the ones you have already picked up and which ones you haven't you may still be able to "fake" it to 22 of 22.

 

If you still have banners to collect, look through the videos and find one that is in a chest with something else, whatever else it doesn't matter it just can't be by itself. Go loot the banner and leave the rest of the stuff in the chest.  Leave the zone, come back, the chest will reset itself an the banner will be there again.  Now loot it again and you'll get the same banner twice, but it will increment your collection counter.  I've used this trick myself.  You obviously don't get the banner(s) you're missing, but it does fool the counter into thinking you did.

Oh wow. I'm so gonna try that tomorrow. I don't really care about not actually unlocking them, but having uncompleted quests in an RPG always bugs me. Thank you for the tip! I just subscribed to your channel, because in addition to your posts on the forum, your videos are also incredibly helpful. Hats off to you, sir!

I appreciate the kind words and the sub.  Definitely give that a shot.  I wish I could remember all of the containers that open with more than just a banner in them.  I know all of the ones you find in the Tombs of Fairel are like that and the one in the Still Ruins is.  The one in the Still Ruins is the one I always do it with if I have missed one or know I'm going to miss one by building the Herb Garden instead of the Chantry Garden.  For no reason other than that it is so easy to just pop in and grab it then zone out, reset and go back.

Not sure how it happened, but the Andrastian Chantry Banner Crown (Topper) was left out of the listing in the initial post.  The first video talks about how to get it, but the forum post just didn't list it out separately.  Sorry about that.  It's been updated.

Unfortunately it's far too late for me to go back and recapture the 3rd keep (I have over 250 hours into this playthrough because I've been doing all the collection and discovery quests). And apparently I missed getting the Orlesian banner during my panicked run through the Winter Palace the first time, so until someone blesses us with a mod unlock, or *cough* the ORLESIAN VENDORS CARRY ORLESIAN BANNERS *cough*, I'm stuck with one incomplete collection.

But thanks to your lovely tip, at least I'm only 20 / 22, instead of 17 / 22, so thank you!!

Well that's disappointing.  The way I understood particular line item in the patch notes, the furniture/decorations vendor was to be to banner collecting as the codex / book vendor was to codex collecting.  i.e. If for some reason you made a decision in or advanced in the game past a point in which you would now be unable to collect said banner, then the vendor would sell it.  I'm sorry that it's not for sale there.  Sometimes I wish we'd get to give input on these things directly to Bioware.  We're told in the Beta forums that they are occasionally looking at and taking our feedback, but who knows what the scope of that really is or what that even means.

That is exactly what I was hoping for. It isn't as though I haven't done the legwork for it -- I just missed one that's now inaccessible, and the other one glitched. The OCD completionist in me hates walking away from this, but I can leave it for now and hope a fix comes down the line. Nevertheless, I still appreciate your tips, and I've happily subscribed to your channel!

You should still be able to banner farm from a chest to clear out the quest.

In the hissing wastes there are two chests with banners in them. One of the caves you visit for the Tomb of Fariel quest has a Dwarven banner; the cave on the far left side of the map I think. Anyway, when you find it just take the banner and leave at least one item in the chest. You can then leave the area and come back to it later. It should reload the chest with another banner.

This won't give you the missing banner or crown you are looking for, but it will change the quest counter from 20 of 22 to 22 of 22 and close the quest for you. The last time I used this was with patch 6. It should still work for the current patch 8 7, but I haven't proven this yet.

Outside of the "little completionist" that lives inside some of us wanting to get the collection finished, I've had a number of people actually looking for that banner as it is one of the better crown+banner ensembles.  You can definitely chest farm the dwarven banners (during the Seeing Red quest on the Storm Coast and the ToF quest out in the Hissing Wastes) as well as the Tevinter banner found in the chest out in the Still Ruins to just "fake" your way to the completion of the quest, but you still wind up missing what is for some a very sought after banner.  

 

... and just to avoid any confusion, we're actually on Patch 7 at the moment.

 I wish I'd seen this post before I completed that playthrough. In my current one I'm about to take my Inquisitor back to the Winter Palace (which I HATE with a flaming purple passion) and forgot that in order to get the Orlesian banner there I have to scramble 3 Halla statues for it. I really hope they get around to adding the damned thing to the vendor instead, but if not I'll try that chest loot suggestion, because honestly the sooner I can get out of Halamshiral the better.

Since patch 10 there is a Golden Nug that can transfer schematics and collectibles over from other playthroughs. (though you first need to complete te main story before it appears on a character, but after using it hten it's available on all characters)
It transfers banners, thrones, nursery seeds for skyhold (the beds, glass and stuff as well, so you will no longer need to buy it)

 

Now my problem is this. I used the Golden Nug and it says on my character that I have 20/22 banners, but all my banners look complete.
I figured that it hasn't counted the Inquisition banner/head into this because I didn't capture any of the keeps yet.
But I just captured my first keep and it still says 20/22...

 

Hopefully I can still find banners in chests and so complete the collection.
