Yep, he's controversial, but I'll also admit his banter with Alistair was funny. Sucks that his approval resets for Awakening.

Oghren and a romanced Alistair:
Oghren: So. With the boss, aye?Alistair: Pardon?Oghren: You and the boss. Rolling your oats.Alistair: I don't know--Oghren: Polishing the footstones.Alistair: --what you're--Oghren: Tapping the midnight still, if you will.Alistair: What are you going on about?Oghren: Forging the moaning statue. Bucking the forbidden horse. Donning the velvet hat.Alistair: Are you just making these up right now?Oghren: Nope. Been saving 'em.
Oghren and Wynne, about Alistair:
Wynne: Why do you occasionally refer to Alistair as a "little pike-twirler?"
Oghren: Why? Has the little pike-twirler taken offence?
Wynne: It's just a curious description.
Oghren: Curious? (Snorts) Bah, it's entirely true. What, you haven't seen him twirling his pike? Goes at it when he thinks no one's watching. Knocks about in the trees like there's no tomorrow. Caught him just the other day. Blushed all the way down to his navel, then couldn't find his shirt. I swear he's going to hurt himself one of these days, the way he works that thing.
Wynne: I don't want to hear this anymore, do I?
Oghren: I keep telling him, pikes are for sticking things at long range, aye? Horses and such. Not for twirling like a sissy-girl.
Wynne: Wait, you're talking about an actual pike? Like a spear?
Oghren: Obviously. What else would I be talking about?
Wynne: I can't imagine.

Can you imagine Oghren meeting Vivienne? How delicious that would be.
Also, some Oghren-Varic banter would be comedy goldmine.

I'm looking forward on my current play through of DAO when my warden who is the banished prince of the dwarves, meets Oghren.
I suspect the two will become great pals and drinking buddies.

I am completely fed up about not hearing anything about Oghren in these games. Bioware for the love of God, please put Oghren in a DLC for Dragon Age 3. There are fans out there who still love that dwarf.

Oghren and Wynne, if the Warden is romancing Leliana & Morrigan simultaneously...
Oghren: So, you're not tossing yourself at the boss?Wynne: Excuse me?
Oghren: It seems like every other woman in the band is tossing herself at the boss feet first. It's like a sodding noble's birthday party here.
Wynne: Oh, no. The Grey Warden is a little young for me. Both of them are.
Oghren: Need someone with a little more experience, I guess, right?
Wynne: I suppose.
Oghren: Well, you know where to find me.
The noble's birthday party line is gold.

Asschabs!
I can see how people could easily despise him, but I find him funny. When he thinks that Dog took his pants and remarks:
Ogrhen: But I'll show him, I don't need my pants!
Warden: Oghren, you're wearing your pants.
Oghren: But the dog doesn't know that. And it will be his sodding downfall!
Interactions with him like those where hilarious to me.
Then add his batners with other characters like Morrigan and Alistair were priceless.

I've romanced Cullen 3 times, and there is very little party banter about that in DAI. I wonder if that's the case with the other LIs. The closest thing I heard to a Level Oghren quip was Sera's "Cully-Wully" line. And that was at Skyhold.

As i said before, i'd have more respect for the Writers of Bioware to come out and say, "Yeah we didn't like Oghren, that why we didn't make any mention of him in Dragon age 2 and 3."

Actually you can't choose not to recruit him.
But you can kick him out as soon as you get back to Orzammar.
Although he will complain about not knowing anybody on the surface, even if you have never taken him to the surface.

Many dismiss him as useless drunk of a companion, but max out his approval and he has some great dialogue, even more so at the gates of Denerim in the final battle. It's not easy, depends on how late you recruit him, and just giving him booze will not get you to 90-100 Friendly.

It doesn't mean that Bioware had the right to just drop him out of the game and make no mention of his whereabouts. It wouldn't have hurt the game had Oghren been mentioned even if he couldn't make a cameo cause i think Bioware is being unreasonable about it.
Frankly Dragon Age just isn't the same without Oghren no matter what those Stupid Oghren haters say. And that stupid Elf Sera who tries to be the Oghren in DAI is no help at all and rather a very poor replacement. i'd rather have Oghren then that stupid Elf wannabe.

If Sera was in Origins I'd definitely not recruit her. As the leader we have to put up with a lot of things, although the group banter in Origins is less bothersome than game 2 & 3. I despise drunkards in reality. I won't tolerate their behaviour around me nor give them a hand when they're down. But in a game with a crisis situation what matters is finding the ally you can trust to watch your back. Oghren had some good warrior qualities, so I kept him around.

Sucks that his approval resets for Awakening.
I found this exceptionally annoying. Like, my Warden maxed out his friendship and got the full gamut of his affectionate dialogue, and suddenly it's like they're just acquaintances or something. It doesn't help that his dialogue is basically a minefield of potential disapproval, so it can be rough to even get his approval high enough to resolve his personal quest.
