First, you have no idea if asari have breats. For all you know, those
"boobs" are their kidneys, or some other organ. Second, you don't know if Asari "suckle" at all. Third, you have no idea if Asari even have a "womb".

Since when do kidneys have nipples? Get the f*ck outta here.

My internets is alittle rusty. Is this the part where I call vhatever a troll for having a difference of opinion?

I think what he meant to say is that you shouldn´t judge asari on account of them having things that look similar to breasts.....

Anyways, ever thought that might just be the way they appear to humans? Apparently to Salarians they look like salarians (that is, no breasts) and to Turians they look Turian (that is, no breasts either).

I guess just because they use four-fingered appendages with opposable thumbs to fire weapons we shouldn't call those 'hands' either. Perhaps we need new nomenclature for fingers and thumbs as well.

I think that salarian drank the mystery drink. Probably made him see the stripper differently.

I have never seen a salarian, turian or krogan female. But this is Bioware so don't be surprised if those reptiles, avians and amphibians do have milk filled hooters.Image IPB

Not really, but Asari are not women. Calling them female is offensive towards them because they´re not. Well, at least it would be an insult if they were real. I doubt a bunch of pixels cares so much.....

I never said they were women, I said they were females. Any species can have females, but only humanity has women.

Sorry if this is a stupid question but what exactly is the difference there?

A woman is a female human. A female is non-species specific, there can be female cats, dogs, elephants and plants. Any organism that produces egg cells is female, regardless of species. But you wouldn't call a female cat a 'woman cat'. You would only use 'woman' for a human female. And although I hold that asari are female, I do not think of them as women because they are not human.

Asari are clearly mammals, or mammal-like organisms, rather than something as amorphous as fungi. They have breasts (cue thread troll) and these exist for only one purpose: to suckle young. Male mammals have undeveloped breasts as well. The fact that asari have developed breasts and a womb pretty much clinches the 'female' argument for me.

WRONG. Asari have breasts to be sexually attractive to male players, not to suckle youngs.

Do you really think that Shepard is so dumb that Liara felt he/she doesn't know that Asari are not "female humans".

And what the hell do you mean by "eggs", that is nonsense. You can define any reproductive gamete an "egg" if you want. I'm staring at some female oak trees right now... Oh wait... There IS NO SUCH THING..

Why do you stare at female trees? You do obviously have internet so you could as well stare at female, undressed women if you´re bored....

I see people haven't yet discovered that Bioware has created the means of proving something simply by putting their feet in their mouths. Even better, they can retcon it out at a later date and pretend it never happened.

Literally correct, as oak trees are hermaphroditic.  In other words, they have both male and female flowers.  Not all trees are like that, though.  Some, like the pistachio, have male and female trees (typically, one male needed for ten females).  Some, like some apples, are hermaphroditic, but not self-reproducing.  They need another tree to pollinate them, even though they have male and female flowers.

Think about it.  All that sounds pretty weird, and trees are native to our own world.  One can only imagine what truly alien reproduction would be like.

Ummm, I have a bachelors in cell biology, not to mention one in biochemistry. And my argument isn't a semantical one, it's a purely scientific/logical one. There is simply no logical reason to call an Asari female when they only come in "one variety".  Biology doesn't simply make things up that have no reason to exist in the first place.

Well said!

Asari are not "female"
They have 2 kinds of sex.

Mind melding (reproduction)
Pleasure (intecourse)

Both of these can go on at the same time. However an added bonus of intercourse with Asari is that they can morph thier characteristics so that a krogan genitalia would fit properly and so on and so forth. Without the acceptence of thier ability to morph their genitials there would be a huge plot hole. So just accept the fact that they can and do according to the lore change thier sex organs for short periods of time.

The speculative part which is what I postulated, is that they are futanari in thier resting state; only because this would make the most logical sence. I mean think about it what is hotter then blue woman with both sex organs?

You make a good point.. Asari use female names but almost all those around them use male names except for the main character. I am speaking of the ambient dialog in game.

I think the intentional use of blue rather then pink or purple is symbolic. There are a number of ways of going about androgynous character design. You can make middle points in everything or you can make contradictions. Like girl aliens being baby blue like the color you put on a newborn BOY baby. I think its safe to say that we wont see gender neutral terms about or of asari in game because the game artists chose to use gender contradictions to make the point rather then neutrals.

They might have been inspired by the Fifth Element, a movie which features a blue opera singer. There's a possible reference to this in the codex as one of the planets, Sharblu is said to be named after a famous asari singer with a distinctive shade of blue.

Blue in itself is soothing and exotic at the same time : there are no creatures on earth that share the same skin tone as the asari. The Blue Man Group chose their color because it is relatively neutral compared to the others. It has the fewest connotations : not associated with an ethnic group or a religion, not related to violence like red or jealousy like green...

The asari are a mono-gendered race.

Mono = 1

Gender = gender

Mono Gender = 1 Gender

That 1 gender being female.

Therefore all asari are female.

reviving 1 year old dead topic? seriously?

anyway, all Asari have no sex. Their body looks feminine, but that's about all. They as well can have nothing between their legs, since they reproduce through biotics. Since there is very little about asari's giving birth, we cannot assume how it's done. They may just as well lay eggs..

all that matters to teenagers is that they have big boobs and have "sex" with females. (even thought there's no necessary physical contact)

I came across the idea somewhere that Asari started out a bisexual species, but prolonged exposure to eezo basically eradicated the male gene within their species.

Sorry, codex says they are all biologically female, which from scientific standpoint generally mean they have ovarian structure. Scene in ME1 shows that Liara actually has sex with Shepard, so it would be propably kinda similar to real life Teiidae Lizards, which even though are all female and reproduce through parthenogenesis, they mate with each other to start that process.

And if you played Lair of the Shadow Broker, you know that they have something between their legs.

I wonder about some other thing. It's nonsense that Asari would find other species sexually attractive, aside of human females (who look like Asari with different skin color - even hair on their head look like bone structure that Asari have).

Asari reproduce thru Panthogenesis due to them being them all female species.
