I'd like to hear more music in-game

Surely I'm not alone on this. The music in this game is epic beyond epic, by far one of the best soundtracks I have ever heard and completely suits the atmosphere. Unfortunately, it seems that a lot of the music cuts out way early. I'd say for all my exploration (i'm about 40 hours in), I only hear music 5-10% of the time, if not less.

That said, is there any way to fix this somehow, maybe via console? Are the dev's at least aware of it?

Thanks everyone

It's supposed to be that way:
"Ambient music is unrelated to banter, but works in a similar fashion. We wanted each area to have its own unique character and flavor. When you are running around the Storm Coast, or the Hinterlands, or the Hissing Wastes, the ambient sound of animals, wind, and weather evoke a living, breathing world. In order to achieve this, we chose to use music more sparingly to occasionally enhance the mood. These brief music cues of about 10-30 seconds in length will fire on average every 1-3 minutes.

In areas like Skyhold and Val Royeaux, apart from bards or scripted plot-specific moments, there is likewise no music, as we wanted to make these spaces feel real.

You may have heard of a workaround players are using in order to get music playing in Val Royeaux and Skyhold. The only time that music should be playing in these places is during certain cinematic scenes, conversations, or at the war table. If music is playing outside of these situations, it may actually be a bug. We are currently investigating this issue."

It would be nice to get a bit more exploration music, but I don't mind the silence even though I love the soundtrack.

Thanks for the reply, I appreciate the quote. It directly answers my question.

It might as well be a personal preference then. I would still prefer to hear more of the soundtrack, especially because of how impressive it is. Shucks, it's not even impressive, it's immersive (to me) and totally encapsulates the atmosphere as well as create emotion. To put it simply: it enhances "my" gaming experience.

I hope they might add an audio option in the future to continually hear the music.

As far as I know, music triggering is just as broken as banter.

We're not supposed to have music at Skyhold, but I often get that drumming track playing ALL THE TIME while I am there. And then at other times, not.

Same with exploration, sometimes I get music, sometimes not at all for the entire time I am in the area.

Combat music is also very hit-and-miss, even on higher level combat situations.

Bioware denies that it is broken - apparently it works fine for them, so I guess we're stuck with it the way it is.

See, what Dubya said totally makes sense to me. Combat music does rarely kick in from what I can tell.

I really hope we can make enough noise so they can at least consider what we're saying. It'd only make it better.

Combat music is very sparse, I tend to only get it when fighting dragons, and the drums of Skyhold are a known bug that can be fixed by accessing the war table.

And don't worry, this comes up a lot. I'd be down for more exploration music in the future.

This is a notorious bug but the probable cause has been discovered (for a while now). I've been doing the following and have been getting consistent ambient music and banter.

Problem: You aren't hearing music or banter as often as you should

Cause: You left the war room in Haven/Skyhold without traveling to a location, then traveled via the world map rather than through the war room.

Solution: Go back to Haven/Skyhold. Enter the war room. Travel from there. Avoid leaving war room but if you must, make sure to use it to initially travel to places. You can go to other locations safely as long as you don't leave the war room then travel to your first location from Haven/Skyhold via the world map.

You should hear ambient music, banter, and environmental comments then. It's important to note that they are still triggered through probabilistic systems rather than regular intervals.

Furthermore, combat music does not trigger all the time when you are fighting regular mooks. It occasionally pops up when facing a horde of enemies but is reserved for dungeon elite, boss, and dragon fights. Music plays continuously throughout the main plot quests (In Hushed Whispers etc..)

I wish they had music (outside of volume) listed in the options menu. I'd like to dictate how often the music plays. If I want things to "feel realistic" then I'll turn the frequency down to the default setting. If I'm strolling through an area collecting materials and completing "filler" quests, then I'd like to have that epic music on loop!

Hmm.... this makes me wonder if I shouldn't turn up the music a bit.    Would love to hear music in games, but at least in the past, developers never seemed to care if the music tracks were 100 times louder than they should be.

First thing I ever do in a game is open the options and turn the music volume down to 15%.    If it doesn't actually play all the time in this game, maybe I should try increasing the volume some.    However, if I ever can't make out what someone is saying because the music track is suddenly playing its finale, I will have to go back.

I'm with OP. As a purchaser of the deluxe, or limited, or whatever version it is, I think the soundtrack is great (Particularly the Orlais Theme). But there were several times in my first playthrough where the silence was deafening. I'm walking from A to B and I don't hear any ambient music. Maybe a bit of wind? idk. Storm Coast, yeah I kind of get, but you will not always be by the shore. In the forest areas it's very noticeable.

tl:dr I'm fine with ambient music, where necessary but I also believe BGM can enhance ambient music. Nothing to say there could be very light music playing allowing me to still hear the birds, wind, sea, etc.
