CD Projekt Red, creators of e.g. The Witcher games and owners of distribution platform Good Old Games (GOG) have announced the minimum requirements for their new game The Witcher 3 and the recommended system specifications. Especially the latter aren't for the fainthearted, since they're tough.

Looks like the game engine loves Nvidia (or conversely, hates AMD). Because performance-wise, a GTX 660 is not equal to a HD 7870, let alone a GTX 770 to a R9 290.

Interestingly though, the same thing goes on in reversed order when it comes to the CPUs. The minimum and recommended AMD CPUs are not equal to the Intel CPUs listed.

It's a Nvidia-sponsored game with Gameworks.

meh, my 2 Gigabyte GTX 970s in SLI are more than enough to crush this game at 1440p and get 60 frames or close to.

A GTX 660 is an old card, 2012 I believe. Early 2012.

A 770 is a newer card but still middle range and priced so, I think you can pick one up sub 300 bucks now.

You'd only need about 700 bucks or so to build a PC with the recommended requirements, and about 450ish to build the minimum.

In terms of PC hardware, it is old.

However: old =/= bad.

It's not 2, it's 3 years old, 600 series came out in March or 2012 I believe (I ran my 580s in SLI clear up to my recent 970s tho).

3 years old is old in terms of PC GPUs. Unless they're top tier or very special editions and even then, 3 years is still a long time.

Looks like I'm at the recommended specs, except for CPU. I have an Intel i5-4570 @ 3.20 GHZ. Should still be fine, I hope. :)

When I upgraded my PC six months ago, a lot of people told me that getting an Intel i7-something CPU wouldn't be necessary for gaming (they said it would be overkill), so I got Intel i5-4690 @3.50Ghz instead. Should I never listen to other people again or is the difference not worth mentioning?

The real question is... is a controller recommended over a mouse?

If im playing at 1440p with a 780ti and a lightly overclocked i5 4670k what settings do you think I would get 50+ fps at?

Doubtful, the game is being developed by PC gamers for PC gamers.

Oh, wait...
