When I upgraded my PC six months ago, a lot of people told me that getting an Intel i7-something CPU wouldn't be necessary for gaming (they said it would be overkill), so I got Intel i5-4690 @3.50Ghz instead. Should I never listen to other people again or is the difference not worth mentioning?
Argh same here! I built mine in October and was told I wouldn't need an i7 to handle new and upcoming RPG games. So I only have an i5-4590 @ 3.30GHz. Shet. T_T
i wouldnt worry much about your CPUs. the difference between an i5 4690 and an i7 4790 is ~2% in games as long as the game can only use 4 threads or less. in programmes/games which (can) benefit from more threads the difference of course is bigger.
but once again i´m surprised how many people obviously dont know about the Xeon E3 1231v3.
