So how many games does it take to promote a class?

** This thread carries a nerd warning of analysis beyond sanity. **

ok. I'd like to know how many games I need to play to level a character from 1 to 20.

I'll live if I don't know, but it's nice to know, you get me?

Is it 30 games?

How much does it depend on when I jump to threatening?

Is a failure in threatening always more effective than a success in routine?

And so on...

- - - - -

So:

  • Total XP required for at each level up.
  • Average XP per routine, threatening and/or perilous games.

Job done.

- - - - -

XP is easy, there are 193,200 experience points required to level 19 times (you don't level, level 20, you just reach it ! )

starting at 500 XP to go from 1 to 2, and 37,300 XP to go from 19 to 20.

xp.jpg

- - - - -

So does anyone have a sense of how much XP, average routine, threatening and perilous games* generate?

*Assuming a normal 4 person party game to completion including treasure rooms.

?

- - - - -

Told you it was nerdy.

Don't know the exact numbers, but one Routine game gets you to lvl 5, a Threatening game gets you to lvl 7 and a Perilous game gets you to lvl 10 when played with a lvl 1 character. Perilous gives a bit over 25k exp, so I suppose it takes about 8 games to reach lvl 20 and promote.

My advice would be to find a good team and to stop playing Routine altogether, if you're interested in efficiency.

Helpful.

I do like to run my characters in routine for a few games until the build is viable.

So, 5 routine games to get up to 10/11

then 12 threatening games to L. 20.

Or swap a few of the last ones for Perilous, saving a couple of games.

So: all the way to 20 on routine: over 30 games (yawn)

Up to level 20 going Threatening as soon as practical, 16-18 games (that's better)

Just like MEMP I think I stuck to routine a bit too long, but I was upping my weapons...

Oh, and fun is more important than efficiency.

I only PuG.

But might as well level optimally.

That's kinda of how I rolled too.  Without low level weapons even Bronze level was a pain for a while.  However as soon as you receive higher level weapons, plus the perks BW introduced later, I was eventually playing Gold, but it took a while.

Don't forget to double all your estimates if you are PuGing to account for the high rate of wipes you'll get. Don't forget general glitches like key glitch that will ruin a run as well.

I speak from experience as 80% of my games are PuGs. I only do threatening though. The other 20% are perilous runs with friends.

You will rarely, rarely, find a PuG that successfully completes perilous.

Well if it takes 7,800 XP to level to 5, that comes to 24.7 routine successes to reach level 20.

Pugging perilous is a blast. I might just be getting lucky, but I don't think its all that rare to get in a win here and there. Plus, even the many times that you do fail, you'll get way more xp than successful runs on the lower levels... as long as you died at the hands of the 5/5 boss and their rowdy minions. Its a great way to meet other people ready to run on perilous who are looking for friends to regularly team up with. It'll help you minimize the number of levels it takes to get all that xp needed for another promotion.

Even if they are bannerless, don't assume it'll be a bad run. A bannerless pug I ran into last night got my Ele to 20, let me promote and carried me a round, putting me back at lvl 10. A few of our runs ended in failure but I was back up to lvl 17 in two classes before we broke up. And no, they weren't a regular team filling a slot - it was a group of random pugs.

It looks like the best tactic to minimize the number of levels to promote would be to find regular people to  play perilous with and rotate turns carrying each other through the lower character levels. I wouldn't be at all surprised if this is what a lot of the leaderboard pros are doing. Eyeballing that awesome pie chart above, it looks like it would only take 6-8 perilous runs ending on 5/5, successfully or not, to promote again.

Edit: Lets see what the calculator says... 193,200 / 26100 (the amount of xp total to get to lvl 10 - remember that the xp listed next to each number is what needed to reach the next level so just add up lvls 1-9) comes out to 7.4. So up the amount to 8-10 from my previous estimate.

I am already Titleless and I've been considering going Bannerless. Except for the most advanced ones which I don't have, they all look awful.

Besides, this seems to be a pretty constructive thread thus far.

As XP statistics and related discussions are not about:

  • Romance
  • Bugs
  • Story
  • Fetch quests

I'm hoping for a fairly calm thread (famous last words)  :D

Generally, for a completed 5 zone run in Threatening, the group XP payout ranges from about 10,000 to 14,000, depending on the bonuses scored by the group.

Edited for more accurate data.

I permanently stopped playing Routine when all my weapons were close to level 20.

All it's good for is farming kills, testing out damage application, etc.

Threatening may actually be more efficient than Perilous when it comes to leveling. When we didn't bother with treasure rooms and most pots, we were able to do 5-6 minute runs consistently and still got ~500 gold every time.

Actually, I was just about to suggest a way to do just that. I couldn't find an active pug group on perilous a bit ago so I played through one with my high level hunter on threatening. We had a good run so once we were back in the lobby I switched to my 1st-level archer and asked if everyone was ok with it. They responded by readying up and off we went.

Honestly, we got wiped by DC (not due, I think, to my low level but more to our disorganization) but they all stuck around and I bumped up to 6th lvl if I remember right. We had three successesful runs after, even getting revenge on DC on the last one.

So this is what I took from it... It would be, perhaps, rude to go straight into a threatning pug at low level. So why not play the first round as a higher level character first. Then once you've shown them what you can do, switch to your similar-classed low level character. If they don't like it or think you won't be contributing enough, they will let you know verbally, by vote kicking, or simply leaving. If they don't mind, stick around a few games to return the favor.

GG on being master race bro. Most PUGerz on PS 4 haven't even discovered titles and banners, LET ALONE KNOW WHAT THE HIGH LEVEL ONES LOOK LIKE.

And unless you are mic,d up, I'd kick you on principal no matter your credentials. I've been burned times by hucksters with high l banner and riding on ps4 since apparently most PUGers right now on 4 don't know how to kick in game.

I'd still switch to perilous at like level 10. Or just let someone carry me through at level 1.

i just look for a threatening game with a high level reaver when i just promote a character and am stuck at level 1. cause if a reaver is there its almost a virtual win right there. i used to say the same about arcane warriors but on the 360 there is a huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge issue of retarded aw's that just don't know what the hell they are doing.

i also repay the favor with my reaver and have no issues carrying along a lowbie.

I've unlocked multiple banners and titles, i think they look ugly, so don't equip any.

The only dress-up-Barbie item i put on is this portrait:  does it show i'm a 1337 hacksaw gamer, or instant kick n00b?

As for promoting, one Routine gets Katari to level 4 or 5 (unlocks both mighty blow and pommel strike) -> then to threatening, and see how many kick votes you can get ;p

I don't even know what super high level banners and portraits look like. Then again, I never do challenges.

However, if someone wants to play perilous on ps4 - let me know. I'd like to do some quick runs and get some promotions going.

Although I find myself decent Katari player,I collected more than enough kicks with lv10+ Katari on Threatening.

That is just  general public opinion about class, which should bring death and destruction :( .

In reality its need about 9-11 games from 1 to 20, even when u have friend who pulls u trough 2 perilous at the start. But the AW grinding levels became REALLLY boring after some promotions.

Zorinho: Wait for the time u will want try katari at perilous. Without Barrier-Slave (someone who is just casting barrier on you all time he can) it became wipe fest for u.

When i was barrier caster with katari on my team, we had signal that F4 means i m starting to cast barrier in 2 seconds, he rushed back,...in good teamwork he became monstrum.

I have decent enough weapons and promotions that I don't generally care what level someone brings into threatening, just don't expect me to kill myself on the boss round trying to pick you up if you were level one, lol. I do get annoyed when the person that joins as the fourth brings a level one of a class we already had instead of what was missing, like if we had two mages, one warrior, and they instead on bringing a level one warrior instead of a rogue. THAT'S ANNOYING.

For perilous, IDK, I don't pug that at all, I only play with friends in that mode. We even three manned it the other day cuz we didn't even want to bother with the pug lottery at all, lol.

It's pretty sad to see a woman devolve into the video game forum culture of QQ and petty insults. Do yourself a favor and let the boys act like idiots and do something better with your time. What I said in the other thread shouldn't have made you that angry, it was a joke after all.

IT WAS JUST A PRANK BRO.

Btw, Yumi is a dude. That still doesnt make up for you being sexist though. Women arent there to appease you on a public forum (which you constantly pollute by the way) and they certainly dont have to behave a certain way because they have a vagina.
