I love what I see of the game so far, but looking at the forum information, it appears that straight human males are shorted in romance partners.  I respect other's preferences, but I do not wish to an excess of gay options at the expense of a more robust set of options for me.  Maybe you need to consider a sexual preference (straight/gay/bi) in your character build set up screen to focus choices for players, AND THEN GIVE THEM more selections.  I want a romanceable Leilana, for instance...NOT a male mage, etc...

 

Please fix this.  I think straights still represent the majority of your customer base.

Who knows, maybe with future DLCs, they'll add more companions to the game that can be romanced, thus increasing the choices one has.

That's one way to make everyone happy.

When you look at some games like Skyrim or Fallout, DLcs for those games came usually with new companions you met and recruited.

So, chances are they might have DLCs for DAI in the future that introduce new companions.

I think that you have some of your facts incorrect. 

 

Straight male romance options were not short-changed because of gay options.  There are the same amount of gay male options and lesbian options as there are straight male options.  The group that got more options were straight females and only humans (with 3) and elves (with 4). 

 

They have also said that they are not going to put a sexuality option in the CC which will allow you to only get romance options that you are interested in (i.e. a gay toggle). 

 

Finally, I believe that they have stated that there will not be any additional romance options added via DLCs.  I know that they have definitely stated that they aren't adding in any full game companions in future DLCs. 

 

The most that you can hope for is that they add in female LI's that you find attractive in the next game.

I'm sure that they will be doing DLCs.  And there is a strong chance that there might be temporary DLC companions (like Tallis or Arianne and Finn).  But they won't be introducing any full-game DLC companions (like Shale or Sebastian).

Since this just came up in a discussion on another forum, I can copy and paste my thoughts on it!

 

Well it's not like there's a lack of romance interests for straight guys compared to other games. Previous BioWare games usually have only 2 romance interests per gender, with Mass Effect 2 as an exception with 3 per gender. They just decided to go a little overboard with options for the ladies this time. There are limitations to those female romance options, though. Cullen is only "romanceable" by humans or elves, while Solas is exclusive to elves.

And honestly, the Dragon Age games have a lot of appeal to female gamers. There's likely more of them than you think.  How does that make a difference, anyways? If you're saying that the game should cater to (straight) men because they currently make up a large majority of the audience, I disagree. If anything, the developer should try their best to draw in female players while maintaining the game's core appeal. Past that, they should write the characters that they want, as long as it's within the realm of plausibility. If it turns out they write more straight male characters than straight female characters, then so be it!

If it was just about having more female love interests, then it would be fine. The moment you blame the gay LIs for your perceived lack of options and demand a fix, it becomes offensive. Not to mention that it is wrong, but others have pointed that out already.

 

Yes, I wouldn't mind having Leliana, Harding or Maryden (ever noticed how she follows you around? Stalker!) as love interests but I'd also want them to be available to the lesbian Inquisitors. I am sure we could find an equal number of male NPCs to romance for the other genders/orientations.

 

Only at that point you'd be playing a dating sim.

Straight males have always had two romance choices in the Dragon Age games. This in my opinion is fair.

In addition, you can as others have stated romance Leliana in Dragon Age Origins.

Nope nope Leilana. DA:I is my first DA game. I have missed out on most third generation games due to life sucking ass up until this point so that will be my next game

It's a bit sad how some people seem to substitute Bioware waifus and husbandos as real relationships. What does it matter if 'you' aren't attracted to a certain character? 'You' are not the Inquisitor. Would 'I' ever romance Iron Bull in RL? Hell no, was it fun to have the quizzie 'ride the bull'? Hell yes.

To say that this thread isn't going to end well would be a massive understatement. Also, talk about beating a dead horse (though at this point I'm not even sure you can still call it a horse - it died long ago and is now just ash and bones).

Well gosh, how could any ladies resist, when you come over all poetic and cherishing like that?  I bet even the lesbian characters will be queuing up to be with you once they hear you call them "young meat."  If there's anything people like, it's being compared to dead animal flesh to be used and consumed.
