MESSAGE POPULAIRE !

So I decided to have a watch of old DA:I videos to see how the alpha and released game compare and I have to say things were looking much better back then.

What happened, Bioware?

What happened to our fortresses out in the world being under a timed siege and if we didn't stop them they could be destroyed?

What happened to actual strategic gameplay of doing things like destroying enemy boats to cut off their retreat?

What happened to limited resources and making the journey matter?

What happened to choices that would change the very world? An entire village was destroyed in that video because of a choice the Inquisitor made. That's more of a change to the game world than anything we got in the actual release, and apparently the game was originally meant to be full of choices like that (or at least that's how the video makes it sound).

"Do you want to rebuild an ancient monument, or open the westgate, or cap vents that are spewing poisonous gases", "you can't do all of them, you have to use your resources wisely". That's a quote from the video (give or take a few words). In the actual game you can indeed do all 3.

Was BioWare so worried that players would be upset that they couldn't do everything, or that they could lose out on pontential quests because of choices made, that they completely neutered the game until the world became meaningless? Because that's the only explanation I can think of for all these fantastic things disappearing from the final product.

I wonder if the game was dumbed down due to time or they made the demo look better on purpose so they made better hype for it.

Anyway it is a damn shame so many features were cut.

Because some things had to be cut that's how game development is. Hell who knows what they had to sacrifice to get our racial options back and also consider this game was pretty much going on every console.

Yeah, this has been brought up a few times. Don't know what the hell happened, really. Probably got scrapped so they could add more notes to the maps asking us to deliver another note to a mailbox.

Also, that armour is better looking than anything that actually made it into the game. The armour for the Inquisitor is just terrible. Like three variations of the same armour, with terrible scale mail, and I particularly love that to use the best crafting material, the dragon material, you have to make your character wear neon orange armour.

I wish there was armour like that in the game, that has the Inquisitor symbol on it, so you don't look like random soldier # 7, you look like the Inquisitor.

I'm actually glad timed missions were done away with. Not really a fan of being rushed through a game like Dragon Age.

Those armours in the video are in the game I recall they are tier 3 armour schematics.

And have enough power left afterwards that you probably could do three other random things.  Power is handed out so easily that by mid-game you have a ridiculous amount.

*sigh*  The video looks like a completely different game.

I'm gonna be pissed if that's true. Between my PC and PS4 versions, I have clocked probably over 250 hours into this game, and have not come across anything that looks like that. I hate that they put most of the good schematics in random loot and left it to chance.

There is always the dog merchant in the hissing wastes, he has the best Schematics in the  game... if you have the money to pay.

Mike Laidlaw talked about the initial idea being about having main quest and story in the wilderness areas, but it was "impossible to do in sandboxes" aka. Incompetent or just lazy development.

I can find the video later. It was from some panel two months ago.

The Inquisitor Armor schematics are hard to find:

1.  The 3 Superior/Normal Battlemaster/Prowler/Battleplate Armor Schematics (The one in video) are on Hissing Waste dog merchant randomly if you have the special item perk.

2.  The coat schematics (coat look) are a random drop from t3 enemies.

3.  The mail schematics (low quality plate look) are a random drop form t3 chests.

Same goes for their respective upgrades slot schematics.

Some of those companion armors are actually in the game's data, but aren't ingame.

As for the rest I agree.  I really wish they kept some of that content with the sieges etc.  It really would have topped off the game.  Also wish we could customize our inquisition troop appearance as well.

I'm wondering what would have happened if they had stuck to one race protagonist (human, I heard which I think they should have). Creating the tapestry of DAI would have become much easier to script and mold. But I guess thinking about what-might-have-been is futile.

Yeah human was going to be the only option and I am personally glad they did not stick with that because if they did I would not buy the game.

This is why I think CD Projekt will be known as the new rpg king, because when they make a game, they don't go, " Oh deadlines, cut all that stuff and release it as is, it's good enough." They go ," Sorry fans, we need to delay the game a little more so that we can add what we wanted to add and fix the bugs so you don't get a buggy mess on release."

Bioware used to be like that.

Bioware did delay the game to fix bugs, by a month.  Before that, they pushed the game back a full year to add race choice and other things.  Things get cut in development, the game evolves, maybe some things worked well on paper and in isolation, but didn't in context of the full game, I don't know.  What I do know is that there are no doubt many things littering the cutting room floor at CD Projekt as well, they just haven't showed them to us beforehand to our knowledge.

I can't help but wonder if sticking to this for the duration of the series will prove to be a weakness when it comes to the stories they want to tell. I guess they'll just have to write around this for the remainder.

As a programmer, I can say that features are cut on 100 percent of projects. Its unfortunate, since the ideas that didnt make it are good, but if they didnt have the time or the budget to implement things in all areas of the game, it would feel weird to have it for just crestwood. It would have taken at least another year to implement those ideas on all areas, so i'm not really surprised. they have to release the game some time. What I can say is that Bio/any company, should probably not demo things that wont make it to release, or advertise features they are doubtful they will finish.

Um....What you saw were Alpha versions of the game. You should NEVER expect anything from an ALPHA version to be in the game.  All games have this. Have you seen the Alpha trailers of DA2?
