So I decided to have a watch of old DA:I videos to see how the alpha and released game compare and I have to say things were looking much better back then.
What happened, Bioware?
What happened to our fortresses out in the world being under a timed siege and if we didn't stop them they could be destroyed?
What happened to actual strategic gameplay of doing things like destroying enemy boats to cut off their retreat?
What happened to limited resources and making the journey matter?
What happened to choices that would change the very world? An entire village was destroyed in that video because of a choice the Inquisitor made. That's more of a change to the game world than anything we got in the actual release, and apparently the game was originally meant to be full of choices like that (or at least that's how the video makes it sound).
"Do you want to rebuild an ancient monument, or open the westgate, or cap vents that are spewing poisonous gases", "you can't do all of them, you have to use your resources wisely". That's a quote from the video (give or take a few words). In the actual game you can indeed do all 3.
Was BioWare so worried that players would be upset that they couldn't do everything, or that they could lose out on pontential quests because of choices made, that they completely neutered the game until the world became meaningless? Because that's the only explanation I can think of for all these fantastic things disappearing from the final product.
