This is why I think CD Projekt will be known as the new rpg king, because when they make a game, they don't go, " Oh deadlines, cut all that stuff and release it as is, it's good enough." They go ," Sorry fans, we need to delay the game a little more so that we can add what we wanted to add and fix the bugs so you don't get a buggy mess on release."

Bioware used to be like that.

Can we please stop placing CD Projekt on a freaking pedestal.  Sure they have done SOME things right but they are NOT perfect by a long shot.

First off, this. CD Projekt has made a couple of solid RPGs that, quite frankly, weren't revolutionary by any means. They have good policies regarding patching and post-launch support, but both Witcher games also released in pretty awful, buggy states. TW2 specifically pulled the same sort of ending trickery that people often complain about BioWare doing, where they claimed there were going to be tons of different endings and then there ended up being one with some minor variations. Quite frankly, I really don't see them as being much better or worse than BioWare.

Secondly, I really wouldn't be surprised if a lot of this stuff specifically got cut because of things like racial choices. For as small of a demographic plays anything but humans (in DAO I believe it was something like 20% of players didn't play humans), it causes a tremendous amount of additional work. It also may have been a deliberate choice to focus on more of a traditional BioWare experience combined with a new, open-world structure rather than a completely new and untested gameplay style of a weird combo of Dragon Age and XCOM.

I'm speechless. I had never seen this video before. The game in the video looks so much better than the one that was released. Wow. I had no idea. I would gladly have sacrificed racial choices for a game that was developed from the mechanics in that video. Gladly.

I've played through the released game once and have struggled to play a second time but I just can't do it. The ranged combat is so incredibly boring. The melee combat is only slightly better. None of your choices have any impact. Even the major choice about which faction to support in the mage / templar war has no lasting impact. What happened to the game where choices made a difference? Without that, the replayability is terrible and frankly the game is boring. Whether I play a mage or archer or warrior, all the zones will play exactly the same as they did last time. Ugh.

Why, Bioware? Why?

I agree completely with OP.  It was quite a let down, even though I didn't expect all of that stuff to actually be in the game, the amount that was removed was significant.

This is the reason most developers don't allow fans such an inside look to the making of process. And I'm pretty sure Bioware will never do it again.

If you have issues with content being cut look to the people who HATE playing humans.    I will agree that this game would have worked without races but a great many of us are still having fun and getting our money's worth nevertheless.

Also...they already said they are planning to add content back in the game in future updates

Oh its definitely a small minority that hate playing humans but they were loud.  And when it gets revealed that only a small percentage played qunari and dwarves....the next game will likely be limited to elves and humans.

I'm one of them.  I love my Lavellan Inquisitor and the elven spin to the storyline.

I would rather them cut the content they did for different races then add in the cut content or its likeness later after much complaining.

...so get to it guys!! :P

It's so sad. At the time, I was so hyped because of these elements. But no most of them were cut.  :(

I think the issue is not so much that things were cut, but that things they told us would be in the game were cut and nobody told us about it.  I certainly would have been less enthused about pre-ordering if they'd released a 'sorry but this is what it actually looks like' video. At the very least they should have pulled the vids that showed the cut material.

And that, I don't think is asking too much.

Elves are as popular as humans.  But its trendy to hate on humans. They will likely limit racial choices in the next game. That said...they said a few weeks ago that future updates could add more content so lets hope they do that.

Um....

Its ALPHA footage. You should not have expected it. Go do a google search and look for some of the alpha footage of DA2 that was NEVER in the game

Why would I expect that in particular to go? I'm not psychic.

Because what you see in early versions of games ALWAYS gets changed. Its not just for Bioware games. This happens for ALL games.

Thats why its called ALPHA. Do a youtube search and look at the ALPHA trailers of DA2. The majority of that footage...NEVER made it in the game and Cassandra had WHITE hair.

Look at this Dragon Age 2 Trailer

Look at the amount of stuff that NEVER made it in the game. Please stop assuming this has only happened with Inquisition.

It's a real shame too. I love the Qunari as a race. I think they're really cool. Their implimentation was so bad that I find it tough to play them, though. I really hope the lack of armor options and animation bugs are fixed in patches. Same goes for the dwarves. I can't imagine very many people deliberately playing a dwarf or a qunari and getting a sub-par experience just to be able to look slightly different.

The armours colour comes from colour packs, which were not in the game. My guess EA will ask us to fork over $2 for it.

No they aren't.

According to DAO humans were played about 70%. Elves were 20- 25 and dwarves were the rest.

20 - 25% isn't anywhere near 70%

Honestly I rather they just restrict it to humans period.

I think this is a good idea, when you have multiple races too much of stuff then has to be tailored for everybody. Example look at the helmets none of them fit properly cause they all designed to fit everybody. Then we have people complaining about broken elves etc. Fact of the matter is multiple races with good CC is a nightmare which takes in way too many resources. Look at the cutscenes and cinematics this time, they were stronger in 2 definitely. Then there is the matter of Armour design, now it has to be tailored to fit everybody and again we get issues. For qunaris weapons look like toothpicks in their hands etc.

The more customization you get the more dilution comes along with it. So For me having human as only playable race with CC is a good enough middle ground.

I understand that in development things change and things get cut. I do feel it's disappointing that elements such as the crestwood choice, where it seemed your actions would have visible consequences disappeared. Wonder if they bit off more than they could chew and that led to the fact large areas seem rather barren of story barring fetch elements.

They indeed done many mistakes like showing us things that wont make it ! But honestly the thing that bioware was known for was its story! , i really think they should have cut in other places instead and worst case added those in future dlc's.. The main story is way to short and the ending is very cheap , the side quests are a sad joke... This was the the strong side of bioware... and the sad thing i dont think it will be fixed for this game because its just way to much work and will be expensive and not profitable.
The bugs, the pc controls , the multiplayer everything will be fixed... but the story part will most likely remain as it is with maybe some dlc in the future that will try to add alittle depth for a price.
