I like my inquisitor fine , definitely less than my Hawke but more than my Warden.

Yeah, I felt there weren't enough "personality dialogue" choices (where you choose among the five personality icons), and even those were very bland and sounded similar to one another.

My inquisitor ended up being about as interesting as mud. I think the VA (male British) was very talented though. He was likely just directed to be very bland.

I like my Inquisitor more than the previous one. I was perfectly able to reflect my personal ideals through him during my first playthrough. FemHawke was good, but nothing that much special for me, Warden? Well, he just keeps staring at the characters he's talking with so... But I like him anyway.

Yes.

I enjoyed both my Stoic yet kind Qunari Mage, and my Sarcastic Human Rogue.

I agree that they lack diversity of options. They can't be evil and cruel no matter what, they're the good guy. There are also no extreme emotional options like in DA2 (I appreciate the subtlety in many cases but there are times when an extreme reaction is warranted).

Not unless you fill the gaps with lots of headcanon, no. I mean I can do that, but I prefer to have some background on my character that I can shape by playing through it instead of talking with my advisors/companions about it.

I only think a few Inquisitors can be interesting with what's given. The rest are soulless posers. Random avatars walking around in the world. Hawke was a better personality for sure. The whole game was an origin story.

I liked Hawke better. The Inquisitor is a bit too boring, especially with the female British voice.

No.

The VAs do a good job, it's just how the Inquisitor is written. The Inquisitor tends to ask a lot of questions but much more rarely has an opportunity to voice his or her own opinions on things or to emote. Most of the main character's dialogue is just prompting to get other characters to talk about themselves or people or events in the game world. As such the Inquisitor is a little bit more flat & boring compared to Hawke, and you feel like you know the character less well. For all of Hawke's flaws as a character, he/she is probably the best protagonist the DA team has created as far as personality goes.

Because I don't. At least, not with the dialogue options available. It just feels like the Inquisitor lacks the diversity of options the Warden possessed to express themselves and the definition of character from the 3 Hawke(diplomatic, snarky, aggressive) personalities.

I dunno. I don't really have as much of a feel for the Inquisitor as I did for the last two protagonists. Anyone else feel this way? Or the opposite?

Bioware made the convo options more random in DAI, unlike DA2 or Mass Effect games where top choice = something, middle choice = something and bottom choice = something. I still completely agree in regards to the Warden's choices, that was only possible because he/she is a silent protagonist so you could have as many things as possible to say. xD

I like my Inquisitor well enough, but she's not particularly interesting, no. As others have said, there really should have been more opportunities to flesh the Inquisitor out more personality-wise.

Because they don't have as much outward personality as Hawke did, and they're not as flexible as the Warden was. They sort of land between the two, and I think the Inquisitor is a bit...weaker for it. Not sure I like the middle-ground quite as much as either end of the spectrum. Hopefully in one of the future games they can manage to perfect this system and give your PC more personality while still making them feel like your character.

I love my Inquisitor, but I miss the humorous options. I mean, they exist, but the delivery is about as subtle as Shepard's flirting with Jacob, so I can't watch them without cringing. Delivery for those "save the world"-like replies is awesome, though.

I like my Inquisitor/s.

They're always straight to the point, get the job done. No time for theatrics and posturing. So to me, I find them interesting.

I'd rate the Inquisitor a solid 8/10 in terms of interesting-ness.

However out of those 8, 6 of them are due because the Female Inquisitor is voiced by Alix Wilton Reagan.

Take her out, and uuuuuuhhhh nope.

So.. you pick the Bottom/Direct option all the time? :D I guess that works.

Yep, basically.

Or the smart-arse option.

Tried the first option... that's when the IQ becomes boring.

I kind of mix it up. I wish my male (Brit) VA had more of a default that sounded like Direct though (the neutral sounds more like the top option). He's just more authoritative and Inquisit-y.

The inquisitor is a doormat...
Especially British female sounds unnatural. I'm playing British male now on my second playthrough, he's a little less monotonous but not by much. So I assume the VAs were told to be school teacher neutral since AWR was fine in ME3.

Big mistake, but I guess that's what you get when people complain about Hawke having too much personality *sigh*

As others have said, a voiced protagonist needs to have a personality and the VA needs to have a good tonal range to convey all sorts of emotions.
Female Shepard was perfect. Both Hawkes were great. The inquisitor is a failure. Doesn't help that s/he has a vague background at best...

I like my Inquisitor yes, that is to say the characters I've crafted, where though they're competent they don't enter God Mode Sue territory like the base game delivers us (by having us succeed all the time save for Haven). They struggle and fail and succeed and break down.

I love my Inquisitor. I always use the female "English" voice actor. (Alex)

I could not stand female Hawke's voice. Sounds like she is trying way to hard to be raspy, but it just sounded out of breath. She was the same in ME3

I hear that many people complain because "Hawke's voice does not convey what I really feels!" so they tone down everything on the inquisitor's voice.

I think it's better that way because  when you didn't play a specific role and would reply differently in different  situations Hawke would come out like a highly unstable individual with multiply personality disorder. Might be just me, but I don't like to be confined in one specific role for my canon.  I even think that it can be toned down more because there are still cases where if you switch from diplomatic to snarky or aggressive the line sounds as if it came out from a different person.

This.

Hawke has more 'personality'. But if you switch from Humorous to Diplomatic to Aggressive you start to wonder if Anders is the only one possessed by a spirit.

You're probably expected to use the same tones all the way through.

It's like that with the IQ as well... pick the bottom option and more often than not the IQ has this grotesque look on his/her face and a c*nty attitude. Pick the middle one and he/she has a smart-arse grin and a much softer approach... first option is just boring and "Are we rescuing kittens now?"

After getting used to it, I started crafting interesting versions of Hawke depending on the Act they were in. Because you get a chance at each beginning of an Act to adjust their neutral voice. It's kind of neat for roleplaying.. considering it's a 7 year period or something? So their personality is going to evolve (or devolve) over that timeframe.

I'm almost tempted to wipe the dust of DA:II and give that a shot myself.
