Can any schematics that can be bought from merchants also be found in chests via schematics farming?

Yes, some of them definitely can.  I've gotten armor upgrades, Hossberg Twainer, Sacrificial Dagger, Spiked Longbow, and many others from farming.  Maybe all of them can drop, but I haven't personally found the rare T3 "Armor" schematics from farming yet, or the rare schematics you can get from fixed locations (Hissing Wastes tombs, war table missions).

Are you sure? I don't think I've seen any shop-available schematic pop up as loot.

As I said, Hossberg Twainer, Sacrificial Dagger and Spiked Longbow are the three I remember off the top of my head that have definitely dropped for me in chests.

 

This guy also found the dagger and bow at around 2:40 in the video.  They are both sold by the Val Royeaux merchant.

 

Here's a screen of First Enchanter Staff and Formation Shield coming from a chest.  They are both sold by the Suledin Keep merchant.

 

I don't think I've ever seen the "fixed-location" masterworks randomly (Hissing Wastes tombs & rare merchant schematics).  I would probably have remembered that.  Maybe it's just bad luck, though.

 

[Edit] This doesn't mean that every non-masterwork vendor schematic can be found randomly, though.  If we've learned one thing about the game so far, it's that Bioware wasn't exactly consistent in implementing...anything.

Some do, the superior battlemaster armor can be either bought at the Hissing Wastes or can be found in Tier 3 chests randomly.

 

It being and the vendor or a drop are both quite rare since the vendor has a long refresh period (+/- 4 hours)
