Well you know, girls hitting on girls is perfectly acceptable, but guys hitting on guys? Perish the thought...

I get the impression on Dorian only flirting openly with girls. My friend play a guy character & when I watch the scenes he flirt much less with a guy. Is this true for all time or only for some particular scene?

Odd I guess it depends on the genders I have yet to play my male elf to see if he flirts with him

The issue for me with DA2 was that there wasn't an option that wouldn't increase Ander's rivalry with you. I don't swing that way, but I have never wanted to come across like a ******, and Anders always made me feel like one for not accepting his advances. My sister played the game as a female Hawke and felt the same way about Anders. Unfortunately, BioWare responded the way that they always do when this sort of thing comes up: throw out the entire idea and never do it again. I love BioWare, but it's like they've never even heard of the concept of "refinement".

Way to oversimplify things to fit some acceptance agenda.

I cant speak for anyone else but i dont want Dorian or Bull hitting on my Inquisitor and it has nothing to do with male on male being icky, i have a bro relationship with the two , having them trying to get into my pants would just ruin the experience for me , i guess Bioware saw that many people feel that way which is why they've decided to go this route.

Hard to convey tone or interpret emotion when it's words on a screen.

And I guess you hate the fact Dorian might fine an interest in you for this reason? But nope it's make people uncomfortable, when a males hit on other males. I guess guys can not express these type of feelings for one another without making the other uncomfortable. Rolls eyes!

Girls hitting on girls is cute. Girls hitting on guys is flattering. Guys hitting on girls is realistic. Guys hitting on guys is unacceptable.

I think when it comes to Dorian flirting with fem!quizzy over m!quizzy is part of his character. In Tevinter favoring your own gender is...a really bad thing. Thus, he's learned to hide it by flirting openly/overly with women.

it has to be done well, otherwise it just feels like you're some kind of super über sexy hyper attractive person that no one can resist ( Mass Effect anyone ? )

This makes perfect sense! He doesn't flirt with a male Inquisitor because he doesn't want to get into trouble, having spend all his life in an environment where it totally would.

IIRC Solas was vaguely flirty with my female elf inquisitor once. Suggested he appreciated the result of her work getting fit and warriorly

I get the impression that Bioware are OK with having the NPC indicate some sort of attraction, but want to avoid putting the player in a situation where they need to actually turn someone down.

I assumed he flirted with my character because he enjoyed the special sort of relaxing fun that such flirtations can provide when all involved understand that what's happening is not the prelude to romance. Regardless of the cultural environment, many are inclined to greater caution when there's a chance of raising another's expections or getting yourself in deeper than you were sure you wanted.

After Anders I do not want another character flirting with me without me starting it. That whole Karl talk was awkward & at the time I thought rivalry points were a bad thing and with him being the only healer I wanted him on my good side not in my bed.

And here's someone that's has little faith in their sexuality that it scares them that another man likes them. Ahaha

I'm assuming that you weren't around for Andersgate 2011, huh?  Short version?  Because Anders hit on Hawke (specifically male Hawke) without Hawke initiating it, some people were highly offended.  Now it might have to do with the somewhat limited ways that Hawke can respond, but I'll leave that for people who can actually explain it better.  Gaider has since stated on his blog that it's unlikely that they'll ever have an LI initiate the overt flirting/romance dialogue again.

Yes, thanks to the man-children of the world who responded poorly to a man hitting on a man, forevermore the PC must initiate.

Solas' flirting is very subtle, that even when I choose the flirt button it doesn't really feels like flirting actually

But oh well, I can also interpret half the stuffs he said as flirty...

I find this a little unfair, remembering how awkward it felt when given a choice between ignoring Juhani (i.e. not showing the same "human" interest in her that I showed in other members of my crew) or dealing with unwelcome romantic drama close to the end of a game in which my character and Carth were clearly exploring their relationship. And I know that David was aware of this reaction because he participated in discussion of it on Ladies of Neverwinter. I didn't play DA II, but it certainly sounds as though the player was similarly deprived of agency in their relationship with Anders--and that this was additionally complicated by Anders being the only available healer.  I don't think it's necessarily true that "forevermore the PC must initiate," but I do think the Bioware writers need to learn to write dialogue in which initiating doesn't mean bludgeoning and in which the player is allowed a graceful exit if what's on offer is not to their taste. Reacting badly may have been in character for Anders, but at the very least the player should have had the option of establishing that Anders was reacting poorly to attempted kindness, not responding naturally to insult.

Mass Effect 2. Can't even talk to them without romancing. And then in ME3 everyone comes at your balls all at once. I was rather irritated considering I had romanced Thane and then next scene Traynor wants to shower sex. Give a shepherd some time to grieve Jaysus.

I would have loved it if Dorian had hit on my Quizzy. That's why I like making him at least initiate the kiss and even that option is buggy.

Our fem Shep was all over Jacob. The way she flirted with him looked like she was going to hump him on the nearby table. I really thought things were about to get nasty in one of the scenes.
