Yep, typical BioWare loading the bazooka to kill a fly.
LOL, this *is* how Bioware deals with criticism, isn't it? *g* I would find it kinda cute if it wasn't so damn frustrating.
I miss DAO style relationship dynamics. I like companions showing interest in you in a SUBTLE or clumsy way. But Anders was just creepy. I played female the first time and it was still so awful that I changed my mind about romancing him. It may have been in character for Anders but anyone who comes on so strong freaks me out. No thanks.
Anders was way too crude a hookup and such a drama queen about it. Just creepy. So I'm glad DAI had no such... incident. But of course Bioware had to take that to mean they better make the inquisitor the creep who comes on to people like a horny teenager *sigh* I will never understand how my quizzy got from mild flirtation with Solas to sticking her tongue down his throat in a split-second. That totally killed the mood for me.
I mean, it's not as bad as Shepard and Jacob. Nothing is as bad as that creep-show... but I wish things were a bit more dynamic again.
However, I prefer DAI to how they handled Mass Effect with everyone throwing themselves at Shepard. Very Witcher-like.
It makes sense for Cullen and Cassandra to not flirt. It would look very unprofessional. Same with Josephine, but she has a good moment to start a romance naturally on the balcony after she vented all her emotions.
I find most of the inquisitor flirts quite painful. I hate obvious stuff like pretty much everything she says to Cullen that makes him uncomfortable for good reason.
The second or third flirt with Cass when quizzy laughs away was pretty bad too. Very crude and weird. However, I find her annoyance with flirting cute as hell and fitting for her character. It's not true that she doesn't like it though. There's this sweet smile when you compliment her first. She likes it when you say nice things to her (as a female IQ too) that feel appropriate. She just doesn't like obvious flaunting. Nor does she know what to do with it. I can relate, I'm the same.
Solas is flirty in a very sneaky way. I liked that. But as stated above, quizzy ruins what could have been such a delightful dance of two smart people voicing their attraction in a restrained code language. That would have been so hot and such a great build-up... such wasted potential!
I guess my complaint is that most of the flirting coming from the IQ is bad on top of it all feeling too one-sided, even though it makes sense for half of the characters in the beginning.
I don't mind companions making the first move at all if done with subtlety. So that you can reject them softly and they get it and that's it. All dealt with smoothly during normal conversation. But Bioware is unfortunately not known for pulling this off very often. Either your character is creepy or your companions are creepy.
