I know that the rebel mage leader fiona was once a grey warden but somehow got the taint off from her somehow and she dosen't know how she did it. I know that she was in one of the books but I have never read them. Do the books explain how she got the taint off from her at all?
Short answer? No.
Long answer? Nooooooooo.
She just turns up in the final pages, baby in her arms, cured of the taint.

or, bacon...that's a good idea.
We may find out if this "Warden wants to cure the taint/Calling" story goes anywhere.

The next DA may explain it. I can clearing see it dubbed Dragon Age: The Calling.
(Not the book)

On serious note...I think, atleast heard so; she was cured by wearing some amulet. Not sure.

Serious answer:
During the Calling, Fiona wore an amulet (along with the other Wardens) to hide her from the notice of the darkspawn while traipsing through the Deep Roads. Unbeknownst to her, the amulet was created by the Architect and it accelerated the corruption in her body.
When Fiona realized what was happening, taking off the amulet reversed the effect; instead of the corruption continuing to spread, her body was completely cleansed of it.

Yeah, I remember before Inquisition a lot of people talking about how Fiona's backstory involved her being cured by the taint, due to something the Architect did involving an amulet... it's strange how so many people on here are saying it's never explained, since I remember people talking about it quite a bit on here. 0o Admittedly, I haven't read the Calling yet; so I don't know for certain. But this is along the lines of what I've been hearing for a while on the matter.

We never find out, and it looks like we might not learn unless the act is repeated somewhere else since she can die (and rather lamely) in DAI and our Warden never seems to feel like contacting THE ONLY PERSON CURED OF THE CALLING even though they are looking for a cure. Sorry, this just annoys me every time I think about it.
Maybe she got cured because of the dragon blood in Maric (which affected her when she got pregnant with Alistair).

Fiona is Alistair's mother? Didn't his mother die giving birth or something like that?
Seriously, do I really need to buy and read novels to understand the games? What kind of crappy story telling is this?

Aside from the fact that she was cured by one of the Archie's artifacts... this makes more sense than it sounds. Frederick Serault uncovers evidence in Nevarra that the Blight and Draconic physiology are like oil and water.

Yes. Golden Boy's mom is Queen of the Snowflakes.

I feel like stabbing the writers now.
Well it's not something that makes much difference, or that many people know. It's been kept a secret and by the time DAI comes around it's likely that only Fiona knows about Alistair. The game really doesn't push it much other than a short conversation where Fiona asks if Alistair is alright. By the way Fiona is treated in DAI, I doubt the writers care much about that 'plot twist'.
