What?! A developer demoed a vertical slice of an in development game at a conference geared more towards press and investors and then later changed it as they got further along while still giving us a great game that has won multiple Game of the Year awards?

Trolled is too kind word. Basically Bioware and EA just bented us over and f***** up the arse but some squeeled from pleasure anyway.

"bented"?

It's just best to pay no mind to pre-release hype. You'll always be disappointed.

But then what will BSN rage over?

Everything it can find that isn't in DAO or related to it in a game that isn't DAO.

I don't know how is everyone so cool about all the stuff they cut that was shown in the promos and then later removed.

Truthfully? It's because I, personally, don't give a ****. That may sound crass but, honestly, all that stuff was content I could either take or leave. I didn't really get excited about all that. The game experience I did get was entertaining and fun and I will be playing this game for at least the next couple months. Not to mention all the entertaining discussions I will be having and fanfiction I will be reading due to this game. Well worth the money I paid.

I'm not going to expend energy in being mad at a company that chose not to include some things they said they would for whatever reason. I've got better **** to do.

Because most people evaluate a game based on what's in the game, and not what they think could have maybe been in the game.

When ME3's ending didn't live up to the promise, it made headlines.

That's because ME3's ending was in the game.

This trailer was shown just a few months from release, honestly shouldn't the story and content be locked at that point? I remember Original Sin who was fairly open in their development and also changed things far into development still locked down new features at the beginning of the year before a summer release. They also didn't have voice acting.

Do people really think Bioware didn't know this quest would not happen this way in the summer? If not were they recording voiced dialog up until a few weeks before the game was released? I honestly don't believe it. At best the one who was showing it didn't know what was in the demo but considering they released it online to fans to see I do consider this a borderline lie personally.

I know that who I have in my party does affect who I can recruit as an agent a lot of the time. There's a character in the Hinterlands that I can meet and if Varric is not in my party at the time, I don't have the chance to recruit her as an agent. So that would count as an option we otherwise wouldn't have. It's that way with some other characters too. There's another character in the Hinterlands who downright refuses to help unless Cassandra is in your party and convinces her.

But, otherwise, yeah. ALTHOUGH, I think with the Redcliffe Castle video, they really didn't want to reveal what that scene really was and that you were not in the present time. And Leliana does seem pretty pissed.

You can just go back and recruit them with the right party member.

You were only trolled if those specific statements were what caused you to buy the game--the only things. Even if they were, you weren't so much trolled as told something that was likely true at the time or planned and couldn't be made to work. It doesn't have to be a conspiracy and there's no need to break out the aluminum foil hats.

First of all Bioware did not release that footage online. That was done by someone with a cell phone who recorded the video and released it at a private function not opened to the public and it is clearly stated as Alpha and Beta footage.. Second, changes are being made right up to the time the game goes gold. The game is then turned over for certification by Sony and Microsoft. So if something is not working as intended it can be cut right up to that point.

Marketing materials are made in advance of the games release. If a portion of the game gets cut after those marketing materials are made there is nothing the marketing department can do. The only way to avoid it is to eat the cost of the marketing materials and make new ones which simply is not going to happen given that there is a budget.

False advertising, deliberate or accidental, is still false advertising.

You lot might be happy with what the game has, but many like me feel the game is shallow and had more features been included it would have been better.

As I mentioned before, if they showed something that was later cut from the game, a simple blog post about it would have sorted a lot of issues. Not informing their fans that some major features they advertised had been removed due to lack of time or whatever the ****, makes them dishonest. Period.

Story changes.

But yes, this kind of hype did get me a little excited. Should've known better it was a shabby gimmick.

I was taking bets on how long bsn would realise that Biowares promises never happen needless to say i got a lot of cookies

You all have been bent over by EA and Bioware and violated! And many of you are enjoying it and asking for more with your defense of them.

Things change?  With the crestwood demo, showing how interactive the world was, invading ships, attacking them, picking fort or town, them even attacking later on after you had been there before, all the keeps having a purpose and your choice to upgrade for soldiers, spies, or merchants, etc.  Change might mean some differences but when they are all DELETED, and left with nothing but stupid generic fetch quests and forts that have no purpose anymore, it was all cut.

Bioware/EA did not disclose all of that was cut either.  They had no problem showing all of those things that were never to be put in, and all the articles written about it, and taking preorders based on those things shown and advertised.

THe reason 80% of the game is hollow generic fetch quests,  find a letter on dead body, "err I died, please dump this bucket of my feces by the old old tree on other side of zone so my house isn't dirty anymore", is because so much was cut out they dumped all these fetch quests so they didn't have to explain why such a big game with nothing to do inside.

EA and bioware are now laughing all the way to the bank that you guys are singing their praises for how great it is when it's 80% crap, cut and paste generic quests.  They served you crap and you are treating it like a gourmet meal.  Some EA/Bioware exec is getting a big fat bonus because of his call on them cutting budget and shipping out a game that's only 20% complete with 80% filler content and getting praise for it as a great game and as much money as if they finished and made the game as it should have been.

Well, how very, very mature of you. Get over yourself - if you don't like the game, that's fine. Other people do like it (and quite a few of them apparently), so you'll just have to deal with the reality of this particular situation. And per your other post, farewell! I'm quite sure that you will not be missed - you, and/or those of you who tend to rant and insult other people who don't feel the same way that you do.

Between this and Crestwood, it really does feel like there was a bit of trickery involved in getting many people interested in this game, with content that was never going to be in the game to begin with.

Why not make up location names for these events to happen instead of having them play out so completely differently in the game? That I will never understand.

Let's not start the whole false advertising lawsuit retardation again. Bioware put out a disclaimer that content would be changed over the course of development. And while their choices of showcasing events was baffling in my opinion, there's not enough to make a strong case against them. Especially since so much of their lets play content wasn't altered from how it is in the actual game, which took place much closer to release.

I'm not supporting any lawsuit or anything. False advertising was a term I used.

And I can get over a lot of ****. Does not mean I won't call out someone who tries to trick me.

On the other hand if it's just you saying this, then I wonder how exactly can you claim this when you're neither me not Bioware...

They were assuming some reasonable level of discriminatory ability on your part, so that you could distinguish between actual Bioware communications and everything else.

I admit, I am assuming the same thing.

Actually that trailer is far older than a few months.   Keep trying though. You should have NEVER expected to see ALPHA content to be in the final product of the game.  This happens all the time.  Its NOTHING new

I agree. I have no sympathy for people who feel ripped off.  This has been going on for years. People need to stop being so gullible and use common sense.  Oh and people are just mad and looking for things to complain about because I was here for DA2 and that game got far more anger than this game.  People are just bitter and angry that this game is doing better and winning awards.

I've been enjoying this game and think its good, and think the devs have done a great job considering they were working with a new untried engine, but it seems that it could have been so much more, hopefully that will be at least somewhat by dlc.
