Grappling Chain Bug

While in combat, I tend to use grappling chain to pull in all the ranged units to AOE them and their melee comrades. However, if there are enemies within melee range, the chain will automatically grab the nearest enemy instead of my target. It makes sense if the melee guys are in between me and the target, but if I move to get a clear shot, it will still grab the guy who is behind me.

Has anyone else run into this?

Edit: I am playing on PC for those who care.

Is it definitely targeting the enemy you want? I had plenty of occasions where the targeting reticule has jumped to a different enemy (presumably because I changed the direction I was looking in) just as I fired off an energy barrage or twin fangs. I didn't notice it on my warrior playthrough when I would tend to pause to select targets for grappling chain for precisely that reason.

It is likely caused by the hardware sensing module being finicky - the control module has some odd feedback behavior when it flashes unpressed buttons for instance - that usually indicates a lag or stall is imminent.  Simply restarting the game can halt the instability and it does not impact any save.

It is definitely targeting the enemy i want. Maybe i will try pausing and giving the command in tactical mode and see if that helps.

This is good to know, though i think it is beyond restarting the game. I have done so and it still does it. I appreciate the tip though. If only a good old fashioned "turn if off and on again" was the cure all I hoped it would be.

This is one of my favorite abilities on the warrior. I've experienced your same problem but haven't really made an attempt to "fix" it.

1 If using a mouse, have you selected the target manually with right-click?

2 Are you fully facing the target?

In relation to the two questions above, I've noticed that when I have manually selected the target, am fully facing the target, and there are NO line of sight issues, my PC will still turn and hook a closer melee character. It's pretty annoying.

I've noticed the same thing on PS4. Usually when I'm targeting an archer off to the side they'll instead grapple the melee dude right in front of them which is just useless.

Yes to both, The best work around i have found is to run out of combat, but that often leads to wasted time and extra damage taken.

It makes sense if there is a melee unit inbetween you and the archer you are trying to pull, but when you have a clear line of site to the archer, it is utterly frustrating.

you need to manually target. A white target assumes a vanilla response. You can't do what you're asking unless you manually target your enemy. It will show up with a yellow indicator. If you are in pc you can of course use my control scheme putting toggle target into a usable space. But that's just me having 34 commands at my fingertips.

As mentioned above, I am manually targeting.

Any idea how you manually target on PS4? And what do you mean by a "vanilla" response?

I have the SAME exact problem, and this was the only post I could find about the issue. Did you ever get this problem fixed???
I'll try tinkering around with it myself to see if I can get it to work.

I've noticed that grappling chain often ignores the manually selected target and instead goes for an enemy that is closer to me. Or a random fennec getting near its line of fire. It's quite unreliable when it comes to hitting the intended target. As the game progresses, it also fails to do the actual dragging more and more...apparently enemies can resist it and I have no idea how to counter that resistance.

Let me guess, you have it for PC?

I was tinkering around with it, and the best I can do is move away from the melee minions a few feet and then it works, if I'm too close, it will never work from what I've been experiencing the past few days.....
