I was wondering if the Spirit blade triggered Gathering Storm?

Thank you :)

Spirit blade triggers everything that is based on "basic attacks". Unless its bugged or something, it should.

Nothing triggers Gathering Storm.

Has this actually been confirmed? I thought the initial belief that it was bugged stemmed from its description being misleading, in that it's supposed to effect after your staff attack cycle (everything up to the multi-shot) rather than simply every attack as it implies. A number of people were reporting it works on that basis, and that it worked on spirit blade. Has there been further tests to show it does not, in fact, work under those circumstances?

I just tested it.  Dropped Clean Burn, took Gathering Storm and used Fire Mine to test.  Cooldown times:

Cast Fire Mine, stand there doing nothing: 16 seconds

Cast Fire Mine, hit stuff with Spirit Blade at least 12 times: 16 seconds

Cast Fire Mine, hold down auto-attack: 16 seconds

Pretty consistent, if you ask me. :)

(Btw, Fire Mine's description says the cooldown is 24 seconds, which it clearly isn't)

(Not that I'm complaining)

Ah so Gathering Storm seems to have no effect on cooldowns then - that's too bad :(

LOL, so it's still bugged. Let's hope bioware stop with the random nerfs and start actually fixing the mountain of bugs....

Update here:

I read somewhere else that Gathering Storm might have an effect on Storm spells, but nothing else.  So I tested it with Energy Barrage, which is supposed to have a 16-second cooldown.  I compared holding down autoattack after Energy Barrage to not attacking at all (occasionally needed to cast Barrier or Fade Cloak to stay alive):

Test 1: 12+ attacks: 14.1 seconds

Test 2: 12+ attacks: 14.0 seconds

Test 3: 0 attacks: 16.0 seconds

Test 4: 0 attacks: 15.9 seconds

So it looks like it has an effect on Energy Barrage at least, but it's very, very, very small.  That, or there's a cap to the effect, or maybe it does only work on the triple-attack animation (12 continuous attacks gives you two of those).

thanks for this but in the end it's still not worth the point especially since stormbringer is bugged for most [doing nothing] or will hit idle neutral critters [brontos/gurn/druffalo] instead of enemies attacking you

Yes, I think the conclusion is that Gathering Storm is mostly broken and really crappy at best.

I know, right? As much as I love bioware games, they have an *astonishing* track record for goofy decisions and bizarre priorities. Seriously, in what universe would it make sense to say 'guys, I know half the skills don't work, but I *really* think Spirit Blade shouldn't trigger combos... It breaks the whole game and everything.....' 0_o

I'm guessing they most have moved the guy who came up with DA2's recycled dungeons into the patching team :P

Not sure if this is relevant or not. Over at the DAMP section I think some one did a test using the a number of spells and the conclusion from that was, Gathering Strom was not bugged, instead it has got an innate cap at 16%. In other words, doesn't matter how much you spam your auto attack the maximum cooldown reduction will always be capped at 16% reduction of the original cooldown time of the spell.

For example Barrier has a cooldown of 24s

The maximum cooldown time you could achieve with Gathering Strom is approximately 3.84s (16%)

Gathering Storm can only at most reduce the Barrier cooldown from 24s to ~20.16s.

...or maybe only the DAMP version of the passive isn't bugged.

are gathering storm and stormbringer still bugged?  On my 4th playthrough, post-Trespasser-- wanna go Storm Mage, but am hoping those abilities aren't bugged.

Cheers!

Bit of a thread necro, but here you go. For SP only:

Gathering Storm appears to have been fixed with Patch 6 (we're up to 11 now):

http://forum.bioware...ry-auto-attack/

For Stormbringer, I see (googling) lots of complaints about it not working, but also lots of people saying it does work. Possible explanation is that people just believe it doesn't work because they never get close enough to an enemy. 25 meters is about medium combat distance and then it's random on top of that. So do some testing with Druffalo and report back here. Should be very easy to test. Use an ice staff, which they are resistant to, and auto attack with no active abilities and keep within medium distance. If a lighting strike procs eventually, it's working.
