got a couple questions, what are the minimum number guard-building spells I can get away with using (so I can focus on damage abiilities)?

secondly, whats the best spec to pick for DPS, ive played a 2H reaver and the burst DPS/Heal is great, but does it work on a sword n board? If not then im assuming Templar?

Ill be playing mostly on normal or hard so im hoping I can do without a proper tank...I want to see Cassie with a greatsword

All you really need is shield wall. Shield Wall allows you to solo everything, because it blocks everything. Once you've mastered the timing on it, you can get away with minimal guard generating abilities. I still recommend charging bull for mobility, damage and the next ability being stamina free, but it's less for guard and more for those reasons.

Reaver works fine on Sword and Board. I prefer Templar for dps on normal enemies as WrathPurge is a mob destroyer, but the reaver works as good if not better as sword and board, due to how broken the 2 handed tree is.

You can get by on hard without a tank and you won't have to switch around control. Some fights will be tough if you don't craft, but that's the nature of those fights (Envy Demon).

You can tank as a sword and board reaver with minimal guard abilities. The fear on crit reaver skill helps, but its like everyone said. All ya need is shield wall. I did this as an elf. The 25% vs. ranged plus an additional 50% vs. ranged was pretty cool. Quanari get a bonus to crit chance with their unique helmets, and the dwarven resistance to magic is awesome too.

Ok, follow up question...which companion makes the best 2hander?

None, honestly for companions avoid 2 handed as it is by far the crappiest tree overall. They still better with W&S. ATM two handed detonators are broker, their skills cooldown slower, most of their damage is conditional IE need to be knockdown or stunned. Without any conditions upgraded payback strike will do more damage than the so called mighty blow. Also getting payback strike and lunge attack allows you to get some great passives.

Finally W&S allows you 1 extra masterwork. So even for companions they have better defence and damage by going W&S. 2 handed is that messed up a tree this time sadly.

i kind of agree, i played KE, 2 rouges, archer finished & 2H Templar, 2H warrior is more challenging then others i have played

& if any1 wants more challenge with 2HW, try Rever, more challenging then Templar

For twohanders, one thing they got going for them is that dragon strike for reavers has its own attack animation. That means weapon attack speed doesnt matter. This favors two hand big time since they are slow weapons with a high base damage.
still, the passives in sns are just plain too good.

They bugged that too dragon rage takes 5% of your hp per hit instead of the stated 2%. So 20 shots and you die sounds like a terrible solution to me. Most reavers then keep stacking healing items to survive so thereby gimping your self even more.
