My main characters must have serious flaws because all their love interests leave them.  DA:O I went for Morrigan and she left me (with my kid no less), I went for Merril in DA2 and I think she left Hawke since she didn't make and appearence (or even get mentioned).  Now Solas up and leaves my only female main..... and in all likelihood is a bad guy to boot.

Is there something about me that just seeks out heartbreak in Bioware games?  Has this happened to anyone else?

Well, my cannon is always a bi or gay male so, for the most part, my romances stay around, at least for a time, or go off to do thier thing but never really brek up with me.

None of the DA2 companions, except for Varric, appear. Not even the LI. I guess you're not lucky in rpg romances. :P

I've never played anything but humans in all my games and I was a human noble in DAO so Alistair married me when he became king. I had great mods on the game so we even had a pretty wedding. I romanced Anders in DA2 and my Hawke went dancing off with him after Anders blew up the chantry so they are still together. First DAI game, I romanced Cullen and things went great in that relationship and this game I'm romancing Cass and doing everything in my power to make a unhardened Leliana the new Divine again, so at this point, things are going swell.

But then, I always read spoilers before I play the game because I don't want sad romances. So things were set up in my favor for that reason.  B)

Only Solas leaves you, you can go with Morrigan through the eluvian and live with her and your kid and DA2's romances don't appear.

Morrigan and a romanced Warden will be together if you go through the eluvian, but they will part ways once more. Morrigan for Orlais and the Inquisition, while the Warden goes off to find a cure for the Calling. I'm not sure what Morrigan says after that war table mission where Leliana searches for the Warden. I assume its the same with the other DA:O romances: "After this, we'll be together. Forever this time".

As for Merrill and Hawke, Hawke is the one to leave... for a time. After the Grey Warden mission, Varric will mention that he's sending letters out to all his Kirkwall friends, including Merrill. Thus, it implies that Merrill will meet up with Hawke. In my game, I exiled the Wardens, so Merrill would probably go off to reunite with Hawke.

As for Solas... yeah. Maybe he'll come back? I had a renewed hope when Leliana said "Maybe he will return".

Unless the heroes of Dragon Age are about to have some Star Wars moment. Hand never leaves.

But I heard that both HoF and Hawkes hand go missing while on a quest in the west.

I'm pretty sure it's the PC that leaves their LI not the other way around.

The Warden leaves their LI's side to find a cure for the Calling. Hawke leaves their LI to deal with Corypheus.

Maybe I should just get the Witch Hunt DLC. Never felt the need to.

You clearly need to set your sights higher, the people you choose are not worthy of you.

They did not "leave" their LIs, they are still together.  You can still be with someone and be geographically separated, and in both those instances, Leliana and Morrigan make it clear that they will re-unite.  Though if Leliana becomes Divine, well, I guess she dumps the Warden, the sucker.

thats why I didn't make her the Divine my poor Warden they deserve to be together after 10 years of mostly being apart

instead I chose Cassandra (who was my Inquisitors LI) so she will probably leave him

Hawke and Merrill are still together, banter between Cass and Varric imply she's going to meet him at Weisshaupt. HoF and Morrigan are still together if you go through the eluvian with her, no idea if you don't though. As a side note, you're the only person I've seen who has the exact same canon romances as me

Meh Anders stays around. Hawke even says that he doesn't like to be away from him for long when you meet him at skyhold. I prefer Fenris though.

Ha. Boy, bad luck. :)

Although I doubt Merrill left your Hawke. Did you ever speak to Hawke after the cutscene on the Skyhold Battlements? Because my Hawke romanced Isabela, and he mentioned her when I quizzed him after the cutscenes. A line about how she was comfortable to stay on the move with him, or some such.

On Morrigan and Solas though? Sure you can look at them as leaving you, but on the other hand those are pretty great story angles for future conversations in future games. Those are good things, in a certain light. :)

Well I romanced Morrigan in DA:O and she did leave at first, but then I went through the eluvian with her and they lived as a happy family together with their son for quite awhile, before my Warden had to leave to search for a cure to The Calling.  So technically they weren't apart at all really.

Then in DA:2 I had my female Hawke romance Merril, and I'm pretty sure it's the same for male Hawke's as well in this, but if you ask Hawke about "friends and family" like most people do then she'll (he'll) tell you that she told Merril to keep helping elves in need instead of following her.... or him.  So they are together for a bit, but in this regard Hawke will "leave" every single romance in some way or another so don't complain about it.

As for this game, DA:I, I romanced Josie, so that worked out quite nicely for me lol  But in all honesty, the Solas romance I never expected to actually follow through, as soon as I heard you had to be a female elf in order to have the option I knew it wouldn't be a complete "final" romance.  Not sure why, I just had a feeling that if it was THAT specific then it would play a larger role in the overall story and end up not working out :P

I hear your pain... my dalish Warden was dumped by Alistair after he basically told her: "I can't marry you, people don't like you because you are an elf, and Duncan and I forgot to mention this before, but you most likely won't have any children anyway..." and right in front of your companions, too.

It was the most painful way of being dumped ever.
